@deborahcurtis1385
@deborahcurtis1385 Год назад
The difference between them and the convicts is a bit academic, since most were only petty criminals who were stealing to get by at a time when there was no social security only poor houses and exploitation. Some were Irish radicals, some were hardened criminals but most were not. Thank goodness for the Irish and the Scots though, they livened things up! Australia was founded on a lot of idealism and notions of equality and we were among the first to give the vote to women and recognise one vote one value. In early times voting was according to considerations like property.

Fact check Ryan 😢 the American lady stated Bob Hawke as the longest serving Prime Minister. He wasn’t. Robert Menzies was the longest serving with 4 terms then John Howard with 3 and then everyone else who have served 2-2.5 or 1 or less. The 6cm movement north of the continent is actually 7. And the 7,000 beaches is nearly 12,000. I haven’t subbed to her channel. But you definitely need to come here and check it out for yourself.
@macman1469
@macman1469 Год назад
You're right about Menzies then Howard in longevity as PM . I think you may have have confused how many elections they won as PM with how many terms they served as PM. Australian Federal Representatives are voted in 3 year terms ,though they can call for an election sooner. So with Menzies 16yrs (without counting his first term 1.5years approx) and Howard serving 11years they must have served more than 4 and 3 terms as PM .
@murraya82

I was an Australian Cabbie. The law about the hay was outdated law from back when we had horse drawn coaches as cabs. The law insured that those horses had food within the city. Very simple law.

I'm not going to attempt to add up all the different rules and regulations for the various jurisdictions in Australia (which is the only way you could arrive at such a high number), so help me out with your source. And then you would have to provide a source showing we are the worst offenders. We could definitely do with more law reform though.

Robert Menzies served longer as PM (prime minister) the next was John Howard, third longest serving PM was Bob Hawke and I recon the best of that bunch. Yes he liked a beer but its ludicrous to say that the beer drinkers were who voted him in. Hawke also studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and was president of Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). He was a fun bloke but quite an intelligent one. There is no evidence that there is a law saying taxis have to carry a bale of hay or that you cannot wear pink hotpants anywhere in Australia both these myths have been debunked a long time ago. Think that she needs to check some of the things she is putting forward as fact. One fact that seems to be missed is Australia has no native hooved animals.

on Fosters it used to be one of the few nation wide beer brands since it was one of the few Beers that would travel well so you could go just about anywhere and know what you where getting, with advances in brewing improved the quality of the beer and made all but the most boutique live culture beers travel well. Fosters had just rebuilt their breweries right before the new technology became available and had nothing left in the kitty to upgrade their brand new breweries to the new tech, they now were faceing much improved and more windily available competitors wit the same old middle of the road for 20+ years ago beer.

I love that she included 'Drop Bears' among Australia's deadly creatures. And I knew she was having a lend when she suggested that all taxis are required to carry a bale of hay in the trunk and that Bob Hawke was elected PM because he could down a beer faster than anyone else (that bit's true by the way). He was elected because for many years, before entering politics, he was the most popular person in Australia, known for being a man of the people as well as being very smart (a Rhodes Scholar). In fact, from the time he entered parliament, it was always assumed that he would be the next prime minister, sooner rather than later, and of course, he was.
