I’m in Calgary, we have water, it’s just the main supply is cut off because of a burst feeder pipe. They got the replacement part from san Diego and the repairs should be done by July 5th. Until then public pools, car washes are closed and residents are asked to cut water use by 25%.

Yeah, the pipe that broke was 50 years in to a supposed 100 year expected lifespan, but failed and the monitoring systems did not provide an indication of the impending failure. Given the other damage and risk of impending failures discovered in nearby sections once this failure happened it looks like there was some kind of manufacturing or design flaw in the particular batch of pipes that was used in this section of the main. For reference, this particular water main is the biggest distribution pipeline from Calgary's largest water treatment plant that supplies about 60 percent of Calgary's drinking water. We are unlikely to "run out" of water if people remain responsible, but that is the trick...

The water issue is because a giant 6 foot water main sprung a leak…and then when they inspected the pipe they found 5 more leaks. I’m in Edmonton - this is the closest we’ve come to this in 17years, and since the 80’s before that! Spoiler: we lost game 7 - but it was SO CLOSE.
@StephFish1004
@StephFish1004 3 месяца назад
Basically Calgary and the surrounding areas get water from two plants, and the main pipe from one of them burst, which is the one that supplies 60% of the treated water. They got the initial break fixed within two-ish weeks, but when inspecting the pipe they found 5 more "hotspots" that if not fixed could burst later, so they've kept it shut down to fix those, which is why we needed more pipe (we had three pieces) which we got from San Diego. So they're trying to get it fixed before stampede because even though the city is doing okay right now for water (not good, but okay) having hundreds of thousands of tourists in town while still having a water issue will not be fun...

Conservative Calgary MPs who haven't been doing their jobs to bring the concerns about infrastructure to the House of Commons because Poilievre is wasting everyone's time with his disinformation, nonsense and his vendetta against PM Trudeau. And Calgary conservatives have been partaking in the nonsense instead of doing their job of bringing the voices of their constituents to the House. It also shows mishandling of funds by UCP and Danielle Smith, the federal government has given Alberta almost $4B since 2019, when UCP came in to power. What is going on with those funds? What is UCP doing with them? And furthermore, what is UCP doing with all the royalties from oil and gas that the province gets, that Danielle Smith is so quick to defend and oil and gas CEOs she's so quick to be a puppet for? I think Alberta should introduce a PST, clearly the province needs one, Albertans need to quit trying to pay their fair share.

The Calgary water crisis was because a major watermain that carries 60% of the city's water from one of the two treatment plants broke. When repairing it, they then found 5 other weak spots that needed repairs. We have been on water restrictions for just over 2 weeks now - no outside water use at all and we are being asked to limit baths and showers. And a total fireban as well.

The biggest news here is the closure of the Toronto Science Centre. The following appeared in my Facebook feed this morning: #OntarioScienceCentre The grift goes like this: - Science Centre opened in 1969, designed to last 250+ years. - 5 years ago, a developer family* close to Doug Ford bought 60+ acres adjacent to the Science Centre (in red on the map) - One month later, Ford announces that the last stop on the new Ontario Line subway will be...The Science Centre!!! - This week, Ford closes the Science Centre immediately. Permanently. Its property (in yellow) will be "repurposed." His engineering report says the Science Centre needs maintenance - does not say it needs to be closed. - Ford is away on vacation. Construction and demolition equipment are already on site across the road, set to go to work before the public can intervene. - Ford, never known for moving fast, unveils and executes a plan to turn a world-class Ontario icon into condos on a Friday, then disappears before anyone can answer the phone at Queens Park. Cha-Ching!!!! *The same family that bought up property along the cancelled Hwy 413 route. When Ford resurrected the highway to nowhere, the value of the family's land went up $8.3billion. (I have not searched the name of the family or company. I would think that they would try to hide that as much as possible. Someone in comments said the family is DeGasperis. Given Ford’s history, public facts known so far, his signature style, this scheme makes sense. Please note that I cannot site completely verified sources of this information as I have not had time to do a deep dive verification. I would think that the big media sources would not be as proactive or transparent with this because they are either owned by people in the similar circles to Ford, or get funding from the government and are worried about future funding if they run a story like this, so please do your own research and if you come up with sources, please post those in the comments. There are good facts and comments below with some refuting this or explaining it. So I encourage you to read the comments, especially if you’re going to repost. And that push is going to lose... again. It's cruel and unconstitutional. This is one of Harper's many loses in the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. PP will try to use the not withstanding clause to push it through but, 1) that will have a sunset clause and 2) there are enough humanitarians in Canada to not let it happen. There's a lot of chatter about 'hope' in media and movies. Maybe you should listen to what they're saying. Take away a person's hope and you strip them of their humanity. PS Just because one is eligible for parole in 25 years has no bearing on whether they will get it. In the really important cases, a life sentence is just that.

I doubt it will happen any time soon, if at all. First, it's a major change in public policy with significant ethical issues; I suspect it would require a referendum. Second, while most European countries allow life imprisonment, it's severely restricted and used sparingly. Given the current political instability both globally and in the US, Canada needs to stay in the EUs good books.

Naheed Nenshi was a former mayor of Calgary and a former Grand Master for Pride. (you got the name right). The closest to the NDP in the USA is Bernie Sanders. That said, the pressures that pull a party in different directions are different on the Provincial and the Federal level. It being Alberta, they are not as environmentally friendly as the Federal NDP (a major difference). The leader of the United Conservative Party / UCP, Danielle Smith fawned all over Tucker Carlson when he visited the Province and they shared a stage. That is who Naheed Nenshi will be facing off against in the next Alberta Provincial election. Danielle Smith was the former leader of the Wild Rose party (named after the Provincial flower) when an error in painting design of her campaign bus made all the American comedy shows. The Wild Rose party and the Progressive Conservative party merged to form UCP. This would be like if the American Tea Party and the GOP were to merge with the Tea Party being the biggest influence in the new party. The Federal Conservative Party was a merger between the Reform Party and the Progressive Conservative party (could give you more details). Ontario still calls theirs the PCs. Saskatchewan calls their right-wing party the Saskatchewan party due to history of scandal in their PCs. Byelection - when a seat becomes vacant between elections and needs to be filled. It is sort of a mini election just for that one riding (electoral district). Turn out tends to be lower in byelections than regular elections. Byelections are sometimes viewed as referendums - especially if all the MPs that represented the riding over the decades belong to one party. @Shan_Dalamani
@Shan_Dalamani 3 месяца назад
@@heidimueller1039 First off, he campaigned on electoral reform. Then he tried to stack the committee that was tasked with coming up with a recommendation as to which alternative system to use. When he got called out on that - and the committee didn't come up with the system he wanted - he fired the cabinet minister and put in a new one whose first task was to announce (dishonestly) that "no consensus was reached". So Trudeau proved himself a LIAR, basically slapping the faces of people who voted for him/his party solely because they believed his promise to scrap FPTP. I get that he has to please the people of Quebec. But refusing to speak English to a woman advocating for English-language services for mental health patients in Quebec was DESPICABLE. Some of the affected people were present at that town hall. And he flat-out REFUSED to speak to them in the language they understood. As for me, I'm livid over Trudeau's tone-deafness regarding low-income disabled people. The $500 bit of "help" he bragged about providing during the pandemic was given to people whose annual income topped out at $20k. Of course he didn't bother checking to see if any significant numbers of people would actually qualify. The people in Alberta on AISH get $20,200k/year. So that $200 meant that we got zip for that. And CERB being set at $2000/month, said to be the minimum that a single adult needed... was a real slap in the face to disabled people who are expected to survive on far less. Oh, and the latest round of tone-deafness is only available to disabled people who work. Those who can't work are shut out. Well, here's a newsflash: He doesn't give a flying **** about low-income disabled citizens, but we do get to vote. So far, at least. And don't assume that just because I loathe Justin Trudeau that it means I support PP and the Reformacons. I loathe them even more. But Trudeau needs to step down NOW. If he doesn't, it's a guarantee that the Reformacons will win next year. That's how much anger is being felt toward him, and that just scratches the surface.

I live in Calgary and we do indeed have water. There was a water break and we were on a restricted water usage and a community was flooded and was without clean water but we’re all good now. And btw, not all of us Albertans/Canadians were cheering for the Edmonton Oilers to win, at least not here in Calgary 😉🇨🇦

Basically, Toronto is a known Liberal party stronghold. Just like New York City is a Democrat stronghold. And a by-election is sortof like the American Mid-Terms. They happen if the person from that writing retires or something like that. So, if the Liberals lose in a writing that has been Liberal for 20+ years, it's a huge setback for the Liberal Party, and even if they manage to win with very little margin, it's a huge sign that the Liberals are going hopefully out the door.

Suggesting all Canadians will cheer for any team in the Stanley Cup final just because they're Canadian is exactly the same as suggesting that a Lakers fan would cheer for the Celtics just because they're American. Having a hated rival win is much worse than having an American team win.

12:15 It's kind of confusing because in Canada, like the UK, conservatives are blue and liberals are red. Also we have the NDP with orange, greens with obvious, The Bloc with pale blue and the PPC with purple. The last is kind of strange. They are far from progressive. They're Canada's Tea Party or today's MAGA (only here, they tend to get less than 3% support and have yet to win even one seat).

Check out the official NHL video on Wayne Gretzky, which talks about how his move from Edmonton to L.A. paved the way for the setting up of hockey teams in southern U.S. cities.

Game 7 was a bust, and really sucks for McDavid, but they went from the bottom of the barrel to game 7, with a coach who is brand new to the Pro's. Bothing wrong with that. Now that they have Paul Coffee to whip their defense into better shape, and as a team have the confidence to get that far and the experience, they'll get there again next year and be even more of a menace.

In that article where it said a man was charged with killing a kid notice how he was just a man and there was no picture. Notice how in the first article a woman is charged with virtually the same type of crime, and yes she does have a picture. Notice the type of neighborhood that last article is in compared to the demographic of people who were in that first article. Notice how biased the news is how they hide the identity of the person who shot kids, more than likely purposely, in the hood, while they have the picture of the woman who by accident did it. I don't have to say any more than that.

It's confusing but there is the Federal NDP and the Provincial NDP in most provinces. Same goes for most other parties including the Liberal and Conservative parties, Green Party etc. More notably, the Bloc Quebecois does not exist at the Provincial level, but the Parti Quebecois is its equivalent (and does not exist at the Federal level). So Alberta's NDP could be elected as government during a provincial election but is irrelevant for federal elections, just like the Federal NDP party can be elected without the provincial NDP being elected anywhere in the country.

Florida won the deciding game in the only way they could. Extra tight defensive play and hot goaltending. The game, 2 to 1 for the panthers, confirmed 2 extremely common sports cliches, that offense sells the sizzle, but defense wins championships, and that Hockey is much more of a whole team game than basketball. McDavid was deemed most valuable player in the entire playoffs, but he alone could not make the difference in game 7. There is no 3 point line, where one ridiculously talented player can decide the outcome on their own.
