A true Canadian cuts bagged milk with a serrated steak knife because we're too lazy to find the kitchen scissors. Then after we create a horrible jagged edge, we get the scissor and fix it. A friendship bench is for kids who are feeling lonely, bullied, sad... basically in need of a friend or someone to talk to. Other students (sometimes faculty) will know they are reaching out and join them. It's hard to know is someone sitting alone, wants to be alone. This way you know they don't.

The friendship bench is for kids who may be having a hard time but have difficulty " talking " to counsellors so you just sit on the bench and say nothing during breaks and someone who " knows " will sit down with you and eventually you start talking together and you realize your problem or difficulty may not be as hard as you think. You have " friends " you just may not know it. All teachers and staff know this as an unseen or unheard signal that you may need help , no words required. Even other students can help here and if they can't will find someone who can.

@bunzeebear2973
@bunzeebear2973 5 месяцев назад
The taxes pay for roads, schools, medical, mail delivery, libraries, sidewalks, policing, sewer, garbage collection & more. Those on a houseboat have a car and have/or had children in school. The only thing they are avoiding is having a front lawn or rear garden. So, they do not even have a piece of earth their boat is living on so it cannot be sold or subdivided or a bigger structure be placed there. Essentially they are POOR. Taxes don't take your job into account or your bank account. Never did, never will.

(Born and raised Canadian, that knows way to much about food) 12:20 The reason why poutine isn’t in America is because Canadian gravy and American gravy tastes different and it doesn’t matter on what category of gravy, it just all taste different. Plus poutine gravy is a special kind of gravy. it’s a different taste then most gravy’s and it’s a fine line between thick and thin at the same time. Proper poutine gravy tastes like beef gravy but a little sweetened just enough to balance the salt of the beef, the tinniest bit of pepper to balance all the flavours together, it also has a very very faint taste of bbq sauce ( so faint that if your not looking for it you don’t taste it) and because you have to consistently wiske Gravy to make it right, the air bubbles add nodes of a creamy texture to the gravy. Gravy is an art form, Especially to get the texture right. Unfortunately a lot of restaurants don’t get it right but that’s why I always make it at home and many other Canadians do also. My mom always says what poutine has to have cheese curds and the best fries for poutine is shoe string fries but the universal fries for poutine is standard cut or natural cut. For those who are wondering, yes the cut of fries matters. The cut of fry will change the texture of the potato it’s made off. Standard/ natural cut keeps heat and moisture in which adds a perfect balance to the fry complementing the dish with out compromising on the size of the fry Crinkle cut are a little more dry texture but still is like the standard cut, just doesn’t hold as much moisture, which means your meal is going to feel alittle more Heavy then the standard cut but if your looking for something more filling without adding more calories to your dish this is the way to go. Wedges are a dryer fry and quite dense. So if you’re making a poutine with this make sure you have something to drink. Many restaurants that make this usually water down the gravy to balance the texture but it down plays the other parts that make poutine great and they tend to add way to much spices to balance it out and it doesn’t taste the same Waffle fries can be hit or miss on texture. You either get it right or not but because of how the fry reacts with the gravy it makes the textures weird and downplays the flavour of the dish. It makes it a little more bland. Shoe string cut is a crunchy and light fry. The crunch of the fry allows the gravy to get into the fry a little without making a mushy fry. Which balances out the texture of the dish and complements each other to make a more satisfying poutine. Curly cut you either like it or you don’t. It still is a good fry but personally poutine with this cut isn’t right for me. The curly fry makes the same taste as the shoe string but has the texture of an under cooked fry. So many people fix this by over cooking the fry but it still doesn’t have a consistent enough texture for a poutine in my opinion but is still a good option for most people without sensory issues There is so many more I could do but those are the basics that I can think of right now. Poutine isn’t just fries gravy and cheese. It’s a symphony of flavours and textures that is not easy to perfect, especially when so many people prefer different balances with in their dishes.

When you pass beside the boilers shed where they boil the maple sap to transform it to maple syrup, the smell is just wonderful. When your in the shed, it's just WOW! Then there's the maple taffy on snow (tire d’érable). Hot maple syrup is poured over fresh, clean snow. Yep, Ottawa's old gaol (jail), built in 1862, has been turned into a hostel. You can spend the night in a cell. The ones on the top floor, death row, are super narrow. I had a friend who barely fit. He was big and tall and couldn't turn around without exiting the cell. They were restored as close as possible to their original 1800 conditions, except for the windows and heating and such. You used to be able to tour it as part of a "haunted walk" around downtown Ottawa, but as of last year (2023) the new company running the hostel decided to cancel their contract with Haunted Walks Ottawa. It's a bummer. It was a fun part of their tours.
