It's a shame they didn't say more about the handle. It is a sandwich of cane and thin rubber strips that cushions the shock of the ball hitting the bat. If the whole bat was made of a single piece of Willow (Salix alba Caerulea) there would be far more shock to the hands and very likely the handle would not last long before breaking. A broken composite handle in a good quality bat is an easy fix for a bat maker.

My favourite bat was a GM. I can't remember the model or its weight, but it had a slightly shorter handle and great balance. And when the ball hit the sweet spot, it sounded good (and if it didn't hit the sweet spot, very little vibrations. It was a very sad day when the blade eventually split. GM are still my first choice (not that I play anymore)
