That "guy" isn't just standing there, he's the goal umpire. He determines if its a goal or not, answering one of your questions about whether it was a goal. It depends on which side od the foot you strike the ball. thats what makes it curve

Dusty just played his 300th game Yesterday. My team Richmond didn't get the chocolates on the day but the turnout for him was nothing but phenominal 92000 supportors turned up for the game biggest ever crowd for these 2 teams and 5th biggest home and away crowd in history
A clean catch, with no one else touching it is called a Mark in AFL. The circle is 50m from the goals. Kicking between the 2 tall/centre posts is a goal that equals 6 points, if it is touched then it is spoiled and becomes a point. Between the tall post and the short/outside posts is 1 point. It still counts if the ball is above the post, the goal umpire tells us if the ball was touched or inline with the posts and if it is a goal or a point.

Some have nicknamed him the "American Pie" as his team are the Collingwood "Magpies". It's interesting to see someone who didn't grow up with the game get drafted, particularly someone from the US as I believe there's only been a handful or so over the years.

Gary Ablett Senior was the GOAT. Faster at ground level, snapped goals from nowhere, could take a grab under pressure or 11 feet in the air, could punt it 70 metres plus and kicked an avalanche of goals in his "retirement years" (when he was in his 30's he was too good to retire so they put him at full forward where he didn't have to run as hard and won the Coleman medal every year). It’s hard to say this year but I a kangaroos supporter and there is a lot of good players and some of them play for along time at least mid-late 30’s, one of the players who just less than 3 years ago retired from the kangaroos and he is the All time games record holder who he played 450 games and he is still playing in a lower semi professional league. 450 games is 21 seasons of playing a game like that this 21 years a long time that’s why these players are the best well rounded athletes out of any sports in the world the variety of skills every player need, kicking with both feet, running average 16-18 kms a game about 12-13 miles a game. The physical tackling and bumping side, the ability to catch the ball no other sports have anywhere near the wide range of skills if any AFL player wanted to try other sports it would be a lot easier for them to pick it up a lot quicker than people from other sports coming to ply AFL

Gary Ablett Jr is the GOAT of the modern era (so technically not Greatest of ALL TIME) His dad was one of the best players of the previous generation. Dusty had one or two amazing years and is great one on one. I'd say there isn't such a thing as a AFL goat as amazing players can be in two very different positions in defence midfield or forward and none is higher than the other because without one the other collapses.
@@williamschubert4819 Agreed. Gary Ablett Sr was no slouch either. To be honest, I think the old man was better. But that is just a matter of opinion. However, I do agree that there are so many great players who can play all over the ground and that makes it really hard to pick a single GOAT. I would rather celebrate all the wonderful players from all teams, both past and present. They are what makes AFL the greatest game in the world.
You need to do NRL/RUGBY LEAGUE reactions if you're honestly interested in the most popular Aussie sports. Plenty of great content out there beit big hit's, great try's, great player highlights compilations ect.
@@barrypuccini6142 Snr was a true forward where as Jr is more midfield so it depends on what you're grading them on. Jr was probably the better player, but Snr is miles ahead as a goal kicker
That isn't a tackle, it's called a 'Don't argue'. You're generally not allowed to do one above the shoulders, but umpires are oblivious and let a lot of stuff slide. Go tigers.
Dusty is so loved, that when he announced he wants to move to Sydney, his Melbourne supporters are thanking him for his service & wishing him well in the rest of his career. Unheard of support for a much-loved player. (he is too much of a rock-star in Melbourne & wants a quieter life - Sydney has 2 teams, but doesn't have the religious fervour of Melbourne)
Not my team but definitely a superstar player. His kicking is super accurate and well weighted for distance, also the best stiff arm in the comp. Eddie betts is another one to check out
The different colours in the field can help measure how far they have run or how far the ball has been kicked to make sure it has travelled the minimum of 15m
When they push off another player with one arm it’s called a stiff arm. Very hard too do. Only so many players can do it. And with the game going so long. The amount of energy too push off another man is very hard
Loving the reaction mate! You should definitely check out Cyril Rioli, a very very exciting player! One of the best tacklers, takes epic hangers, kicked some miraculous goals, his hand and foot skills are like nothing we’ve seen before! A lot of players are better then him but for pure entertainment and excitement he was one of the best! His attention to detail was like nothing we’ve seen before, he never stopped working and torched the opposition no matter where he was on the field! BTW Dusty is famous for his upper body strength, his stiff-arming and ability to break tackles. BTW2 a stiff arm fend/block in AUS is called a "don't argue"! Add that to your slang list.
A kick between the centre posts is a goal =six points, if it is touched by a players hand or body and goes through, hits one of the centre posts, or is hand balled through it’s a behind - 1 point. If you kick it through or it goes through between the side posts for any reason it is a behind= 1 point After a goal the ball starts back in the centre circle , after a behind the opposing team kicks it out from the scoring teams goal square If the ball crosses the boundary line for any reason play stops and the ball is given to the opposing team of whoever touched it last to kick or the umpires throws it in if it is unclear who did
Jaydayde What are you watching? There is no, “last touch” rule if the ball goes over the boundary. (only in AFLW) There’s a free kick for out on the full from a kick, or for a deliberate out. Amazing how people write involved explanations and don’t even know the rules!
Wayne Carey was probably the GOAT but he was also hated by most whereas few people truly hate Dustin. Carey often turned games off his own foot. He was quite a bit bigger than Martin, a brilliant kick & mark but a truly scary individual at about 6ft4 or 5, youngest of 3 boys & a real bruiser. Martin is quite capable first wise coming from a nasty old prick of a man but a much better human being.

An awesome player, but not the GOAT for mine. Everyone will have their opinions on who is, but Dusty is a bit of a protected species (if every free kick against him was paid he would only be 2/3rds as good) and the speed of the game now sets it right up for him. The game is played differently now, but as a Carlton supporter I would put another Richmond player, Kevin Bartlett above him; and Hawthorn's Leigh Matthews, and North Melbourne's Wayne Carey would probably round out my top three (from those I have watched play regularly). Dusty would be in my top three or four over the last 10 years. He is super consistent, freakish in front of goal, but gets away with so much that other players get pinged for, drops him down a peg for me.
Dustin Martin Is not the goat he is pretty good he is definitely up there but it is hard to say in AFL who is GOAT because the game these days is a lot different to how it used to be played, in the 90s AFL made alot of rule changes there has never been yellow or red cards no one can be sent off, only reason players will ever come of the field is if they get a injury or for blood rule. The game these days is played a lot more of players you will see both teams flood one half of the field both teams are always within 50 mtrs of the ball, they do have positions the back line has 6 players in the back half 2 rows of 3 players, the middle of the ground the centre players in the centre square they have 3 players one player who goes up when umpires throw ball up and two smaller fastest players, forward line is 6 players in the forward half 2 rows of 3, the game these days they start in their positions but they don’t actually hang around there positions so there is a lot of players around the ball which makes the games score a lot less then how it used to be played the scores these days hardly go over 100 points it does hardly ever and if one player kicks more then 4 or 5 goals in a game it’s hardly done much anymore. Also every single player has to have the exact same set of skills as every single player on there team, the older play style players are a lot more position driven they’re always around the forward or backline for most of the game and the game scores compared to now are always over 100 points 130 to 150 points teams have been close to 200 and players kicking 14 to 15 goals a game

Dusty is a exciting player, however there are a lot who are better, being great for a year or 2, but the best of the best are great for their whole AFL career. Gary Ablett senior Gary Ablett jnr, Leigh Mathews, Malcom Blight, Buddy, Buckley, Royce Hart, Lockett, ect, they could all kick goals anywhich way. Tony Lockett holds record most goals, you had the enforcers before game got too strict. Crazy broken bones they still played. Shirt grabbing is most u see now days. Copping fines and extended suspensions they keep their fists to themselves, well they try too. You watched wrong video on what is AFL the proper video explains much clearer
His career nearly came to an early end due to his visible association with certain underworld gang members and doing stuff like trying to stab people with chopsticks in a Chinese restaurant. He sort of reminds me of one of the bad guys in the Mad Max films. Perhaps they're waiting until he retires to start filming another in the franchise.
Dustin Martin is a very good player but not the best player or the Goat. If you want to watch the best then you need to watch hi-lights of God and his Goat Son. Gary Ablett Snr who played from 1984-97 and his Son Gary Ablett Jnr played from 2002-20. The best you'll ever see. To Geelong Legends.
