"Ride me sideways is another one!" was an ad lib by Pauline McLynn that Ardal O'Hanlon suggested. You can see Dermot Morgan trying not to corpse when he's got his back to the door.

"Ah, is he dying? Poor old Jim! He won't like that!" 😆😆😆 I never quite realised how funny that line is until now!! Ardal O'Hanlon once said that in County Monaghan in Ireland, where he comes from, people do have a very low level of emotion when it comes to calamity or bad news. If you tell them they've been robbed, or that somebody they know has died, or that there's an earthquake going on, the chances are they will come back with "Ah right, yeah, that's a pity" or something similar!! 🤣

You summed up Ted perfectly at the end. You have really got this show. He is the "normal" one out of the characters, but he's also not a good person. This is a common difference between British and American sitcoms. In Britain we don't like our main characters to be heroes, we like them to be horrible and/or losers. If this was an American sitcom (not a criticism just noting the difference), Ted would probably be a loveable innocent priest who was accidentally placed on the island with the eccentric characters, due to a mix-up or something, rather than because he's a terrible guy.

(Fingers crossed, Taffe) How about celebrating the end of lockdown (in the UK at least) by watching 'The Mainland'? Failing that - 'The Old Grey Whistle Thief' is actually MY absolute favourite 'Father Ted' ....except maybe the Christmas Special.

Rock-a-Hula-Ted is a Mrs. Doyle centred episode still to come. An episode featuring a segment that still gets talked about today. The bad words scene is one of my favourites in the whole show, for Pauline McLynn doing everything to make Dermot Morgan laugh. Best is him having to pause and take a breath when she shouts "Ride me sideways". First appearance by Sister Assumpta. Dougal isn't wearing blue, so he won't remember... Funny, I think I've said that before. Speed Mass - love it. Wish it was really that fast. I've been to a Church of Ireland service, much shorter.

Have you reacted to ‘My Hero’ it also starred Ardal O’Hanion and run for 6 series (2000-2006 on BBC1). He plays a dim-witted superhero from the planet Ultron who has problems understanding earthly customs.....basically think of father Dougal with super powers....

Yeah I have mentioned this a couple of times. Such a good show that doesn't seem to get much attention. It did fall off in the end with the change of actor but overall a fun watch none the less.

@@martinputt6421 Yeah I know what you mean but I'm not too opposed to how they handled it. They tried with the new person, it didn't work and they didn't make another season after that one. It's not even that he is a bad actor, just the change overall I feel. Goodnight Sweetheart would be a good one to react too as well I feel.

It's bad enough to refuse cake or tea with Mrs. Doyle....but as for being another women now that seems to take her to another level....and especially a woman who writes 'filth' not that she would ever read such books nor have any knowledge of 'sins of the flesh' So funny.

This is not on the upper half of my list if I rated each episode in the series (which I've watched probably 10 times over the years). Dermot Morgan is still absolutely fantastic in portraying Father Ted being cringe worthily awkward. 😊

i would suggest watching certain episodes before certain others, though which episodes you watch in between them is ; inconsequential. In order these are: old grey whistle theft, flight into terror and the mainland.

You should watch "The Mainland" next. Great episode, with a crossover from "One foot in the Grave", another show you should react too.

Yet another vote for One Foot in the Grave. A more off the wall suggestion though is 'Nighty Night'. You won't get many requests for that as it's a UK sitcom from 2004-2005 that never achieved mainstream recognition, but it would be amazing to see your reaction to it. I remember when I watched the first episode with my housemate, in stunned silence for the first 10 minutes, then my housemate stormed out in disgust. Shortly after, I allowed myself to start laughing . . . reading online reaction to the show, it's clear that it's a programme that provokes very strong reactions - either shock and horror, or, like me, the feeling that it's one of the greatest TV programmes ever made! The BBC barely ever dared to repeat it, hence relatively few people have heard of it.

If your looking for next show to replace Father Ted since you are almost finished by doing double episodes. I suggest either Spaced if you want a short 2 series. Slightly longer 3 series I.T. Crowd. or The Mighty Boosh! (includes Monkey Hell, Mod Wolves, a Crack addicted Fox and Nannageddon) Three series or Red Dwarf though there are 12 series over 25 years.

One of the few episodes I don't like, though I'm not sure why. Great series though if this is a lowlight. It's still way better than what's on these days. Rock a hula Ted and Grant unto him eternal rest are the other lesser episodes for me. Some people like them however. You could get them out of they way before Flight into Terror or The Mainland
