Men ice hockey world champinship is usually hold in may. This was Finland's 3rd world championship after legendary 1995 and 2011. Both times we beated our biggest rival Sweden. This one was against Canada and we won without any NHL players which is basicly must to have. Mörkö is nickname for team captain Marko Anttila due to his huge size as a player. "Mörkö" means scary bogy.

Fun fact: in 1995 finals Sweden was so sure about their victory that they made and released their victory hockey song before the finals. As it happens Finland won gold (for the first time), and the best part was that Swedish song was the most played song in Finland for years to come. Den Glider In! (it glides in)

Finland won her first icehockey olympic gold two days ago, so there were plenty of people at this fountain on Sunday. But hey could not swim in it, because it was frozen. The winter is still continuing here. When Finland won the icehockey world championship in 1995, 2011 and 2019, that happened in early summer and the temperature was about 15-20 degrees Celsius higher than what it has been lately. The captain of the 2019 Finnish team was Marko Anttila, who had the nick name Mörkö. He was not effective during the round robin, but in the play-offfs he scored 4 of the last 6 goals, which the Finnish team made. So an absolutely crucial player like the Finnish goal keeper Kevin Lankinen. Marko Anttila played also a very good game in the olympic final against Russia, which seemed to be a bit tired after having a very heavy semi-final against Sweden.

I was there... for a fucking coinsident. I'm huge hockey fan but it was totally unrelated that I was there. I live up north at the artic circle (at same town as santa claus) so I have missed these capital city celebrations. But wtf luck to be there when we won the biggest of em all. Absolutely can relate to these things we see here and the atmosphere. Hockey is the biggest sport thing in finland 100/0.

The Finnish-Swedes might very eagerly do just that, when the Finnish speaking civilians are trying to have some good time. The wealthy elite enjoying the fact that 95 percent of the population wastes hundreds of hours of their youth learning a useless language to 'serve' the elite minority consisting of five percent of the Swedish-speaking Finnish population, living in a few small Swedish-speaking communities that absolutely refuse to learn the ugly language of the peasants. The progeny of this Swedish speaking elite is pretty much guaranteed to get an academic degree in higher education from one of the state paid elite-feeding institutions, that any Finnish speaking applicants are excluded from by default. That might be one possible source of piss around places where the Finnish people try to forget about the atrocities of the Swedish colonization. Toisaalta: 'Minä vain juon ja pissaan, ja muut saa selittää.'

My dog was born while the final game was going on so his kennel name is Mörkö-Marko allthough we call him Piikki = spike/thorn All of the puppies names in that litter were based on the best hockey players on that years team.

Funniest thing is that i didnt even watch the game and knew about it 2seconds later. Buddys neighbors were watching it and exploded to cheers, this sounding clearly past the walls and to my speakers quietly enough to notice (we were playing and voice chat was on) "well guess we won huh?". This information spreads speed of light. News agencies have nothing on this efficiency!!

Lots of good music from Finland. Most I've heard is Folk or Symphonic Metal but my Favorite Finnish band is WHEEL. Progressive Metal. Singer has a very strong voice. I'd recommend anything with an official video.

Finland goes mental after winning World Championship. 1995 was the first time and even thoe i lived much smaller city at that time the Whole city was blasted from celabrating people. 2011 was second time and of course all younger who haven´t been old enough or even born in -95 wanted to celebrate like crazy. Same thing again 2019. This year we won first time olympic gold against Russia and it is the biggest thing in hockey. Only bad thing was that the game started 6:10am local time and ended before 9am at sunday morning. So the celebrating wasn´t so wild becouse people watched that game sober in homes. So people wasn´t drunk as hell after winning. Also covid might be one of the reasons too. All those other games were played evening time and people have been drinking the whole evening so after winning it´s natural to put the celebrations together go to the squear.

If you want to party, Finland probably isn't the best option. Typically, in days like Christmas, Easter and so on, Finns celebrate by going to the cemetery and commemorate their dead family members. So, the atmosphere is just about as festive as it is in funerals. However, eve of 1. May is usually little happier day with eccessive public drinking. The joy-riot seen on the video happens only about once in a decade after Finnish sports team wins some international event watched mostly by Finns themselvels.

Lol the same shit goes down everytime we win the hockey championships! it also went down last february when Finland won the Olympic gold medal for hockey. The same thing happened, even though it was the middle of winter and we had tons of snow. The most enthusiastic partiers would still be taking of their clothes to show their support

Lately, the city decided to make a fence around it, if there's any reason to expect masses, drunken masses, to disturb this beautiful lady, called Havis Amanda. The structure really is not made to be a jungle gym, unfortunate, but unavoidable...

You should rect to Finland Ice Hockey world champions 2019 -video. They really were the underdogs and won. Finland also won the world championship AS WELL AS the olympic hockey in 2022. We definately did the exact same thing then what you saw on video, even past covid. Police lets people celebrate, they are there to supervise it. Cities try to protect their fountains beforehand by building them walls and such... The Holy One you really need to know is 1995. It is never forget-moment for us. First world championship for Finland. We beat sweden IN sweden and tok their victory song for our own. It doesnt get any sweeter than that.

It wasn't that crazy, cause it was like 8:30 am when game ended and people just went when they wanted, like some people wanted to right after and some at night. In contrast to this celebration when it ended at something like 21 pm so everyone knew exactly when to go so there was a LOT of people. This if you talking about olympics :D

The alcohol consumption is not that high in Finland. Watch the video "Country alcohol consumption comparison." In Europe the highest alcohol consumption countries are: The 1st Moldova, the 2nd Lithuania, the 3rd Chechia and the 4th Germany. Finland is in the middle even under. Forinstance Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, UK, Estonia, Latvia, Hungary, Cypros, Portugal, Slovakia, Serbia, Luxemburg, Poland, Belarus etc. are ahead of Finland.

Damn, I wish I would have been able to move out in 2019 for high school rather than in 2021, I lived in a small town in the middle of goddamn nowhere in Northern mid Finland and the only celebration we had there was my dad standing up abruptly, almost smashing his head into the lamp and shouting "YEAH" so loud I swear the whole house shook. Our dog shot up like he was about to be lit on fire XD But like I would have gone to Tori, but since I'm still underage, I would have just followed from the sidelines, enjoying the view and the energy of people just going buckwild.

Finland won the first world championship in 1995 and then in 2011, 2019 and 2022. If you want a list of who the Finns play in the NHL then I can't even write, but we are a small country, only 5.5 million people and so the championship is always a folk festival and everything is friends. Esa TIkkanen's oku is a five-time NHL champion that NYW York went pretty confused when they won there. 2019 was perhaps very much in terms of going into the tournament just as underdogers and winning with roughly own national level players. As for these celebrations, I can say that the people have indeed been one and that statue is called Manta and can be found by google in Helsinki.

I was at the latest ice hockey victory party at Tampere, where the game took place in 2022. Fucking lame. This celebration was because it was against Sweden. Sweden has beaten Finland so many times like in the last 20 seconds slamming in goals like no other... And I think the police were the ones honking...
