As an explanation: The concrete has certain additives that tend to react to CaCO3 which is very soluable. In the times of the GDR they used what was easy to get nearby. That is the reason why GDR concrete is/was so vulnerable. Anyway, this bridge was planned to be restaurated next year. Thanks god, nobody was hurt.
The video in the news report is a TIME LAPSE, as in a photo is taken every minute or so and then added to the video. It is NOT a sped up video, there literally are no frames in between, so that you could slow down.
First Carola Bridge (1892-1945) Second Carola Bridge The planning of the “north-south connection” was based on National Socialist planning ideas from 1938/1939. From 1967 to 1971, a prestressed concrete bridge with three separate superstructures for the tram and for a two-lane carriageway each with a width of seven meters was built according to these specifications. In contrast to what is usual today, in the GDR era in the 1960s and 1970s, complete construction planning was not usual before construction began. In contrast to what a green politician would have decided, the two-lane road (not the tram lane) was renovated first. This was also only designed to cope with the much lower traffic in the GDR. And a Trabant only weighs around 700-735 kg. Where will politics take us next?
Hi Pablo! You have to remember, that the bridge was constructed and built in the former east German republic, which means under Stalinist rule. And this country has several problems, as well in the construction field, because of rare materials. In fact, in Germany every bridge gets checked, every 2 years like our cars...
ok, the bridges in the former west have problems because we are a transfer country that is crossed by enormous amounts of traffic including trucks. In addition = 70s and not to forget socialist eastern construction where, according to the professor, insulation may be missing. I can well remember the roads on visits to the east before reunification.
