Thing is, my godmother was absolutely convinced that Hinge and Bracket were, in fact, two elderly ladies. She was slightly put out when my mother and I pointed out to her that they were a rather sophisticated drag act and their names were George Logan and Patrick Fyffe.

The only real thing i suppose was a little unusual was they looked more attractive then the average spinsterly type of women they were portraying.

I always remember Hinge & Brackett advertising Croft Sherry, when it was considered an old ladies drink. 😂

when i first heard this joke , i smiled for days afterwards. I had only recently moved to the North of England from Australia, and was just getting used to the use of "Our" in reference to members of your family such as Our Sharon or Our kid. I still tell this joke and i still laugh at the punchline every time 😃

I remember hearing the mouse joke when I was about 10 (around 1965)...it was told during a talk by a famous British ornithologist and artist, Sir Peter Scott. Funnily enough, I remembered very little of his talk, except for the joke.

I'm sure Les Dawson told that joke but straight to the audience. If you like classic old comedy look out Robb Wilton: The day war broke out, Fireman sketch & Police station.

I would love you to do a "reacts" vid on one of the most hysterical British sitcoms ever made. Called "Vicious". It's with sir Ian McKellan and sir Derek Jakobi. They make marital insults into a very very high artform :D

These two guys are very funny, but most of their comedy was based around Music. This one sang and the other played the piano, with occasional duets. quite a niche act, but they became so popular they were given a series (this one) - Sadly it wasn't funny enough on its own to be a big hit. This was a time when Drag acts were quite popular in comedy and on TV. Les Dawson, Danny La Rue, Paul o'Grady (Lily Savage), Dick Emery. Much of it was a carry over from Music Hall. Still funny though

Not too sure if you have watched Riki Fulton, a Scottish comedian along with the late Scottish actor Mark McManus who played the part of Taggart in a Scottish police series of the same name, Riki is “Supercop” in the sketch, Scottish humour at its best. 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Alan, we could put you into so many rabbit holes for classic British comedy shows but I recommend 'Last of the Summer Wine' It ran for 31 seasons between 1973 to 2010. It might be a bit too 'dry' for 🇺🇸 tastes and it really comes into its own. The first couple series are worth missing though. Basically it's 3 guys who are pensionable ages and filling up their time with schoolboy type japes and getting into scrapes.
