Of course we also have missing children. Last year, around 16,500 children went missing, but around 15,800 of them were found. So about 700 children were never found or if they were found they were no longer alive. One case became very public this year. The case of 6-year-old Arian from Bremervörde moved the whole of Germany. The little boy has an autistic disposition and is said to have wandered around. For several days, thousands of helpers from the police, army, THW and Red Cross searched for the little boy. Unfortunately, he was recently found dead.

The difference between Germany and the USA is not the reality, it is the extent to which fear has been stirred up.

You didnt seemed to listen - its the SAME percententage of abduction in the both countrys! And its a relative almost everytime who does it - also the returned kids rate is the same. - Its just your fear.

Thanks for the video. On child abduction: The USA is on the same level as Germany when it comes to child abduction. The difference is not in the number of cases per capita. It is more about the media. The US media prefers to tell dramatic stories instead of facts. It is much more likely that the perpetrator comes from the circle of acquaintances. A sports coach, someone from the church or a relative. That's a truth we don't want to believe. It is much easier to accept that it is the evil stranger. In respect to child abduction: The number of 360k child abductions in the USA from the DW video appears to come form the OJJDP (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention). They perform from time to time a study on how many of these abductions were "severe" i.e, the child was abducted by a stranger. See the NISMART‐4 Law Enforcement Survey - Stereotypical Kidnapping (LES-SK) Technical Report. That report is hard to read but states that in 2019 only between 52 and 306 child abduction in the USA was of the severe kind (non-family abduction by a stranger). The report could not give a precise number because the data of the stereotypical kidnappings is not officially collected. The US registers child abductions in general. The fast majority of these are runaways, children getting lost, or abduction by a parent. So the NISMART‐4 selected a representative sample from the 360k cases and made in-depth interviews with the local agencies. They do this every 10 years. Child abduction by strangers was and still is only a small issue in the USA. Interestingly, I could not find any media news on that study.

Hello, I am German and have a 7-year-old son. His favorite playground includes a real steam locomotive with lots of climbing nets and an 8-meter-high tower that you can only climb up using special climbing equipment and usually leave again via a slide. He learned to climb this tower when he was just four years old, initially with my help, but later he was able to do it himself. Although I always keep an eye on him, I sit 20 - 30 meters away to give him the feeling of independence. If he falls and injures himself, it is his fault and mine, but he should also learn from it. In Germany, no one would think of suing a playground operator (usually cities and local authorities) if a child injures themselves. There is often a sign at the entrance that says: "Use at your own risk, parents are liable for their children." That says it all legally. The playgrounds are also regularly inspected for defects by the TÜV (independent technical inspection association).

Regarding playing in general german parents let children make their own "experiences". F.e. if you climb on a wall and fall down, it could hurt. If you climb on a tree, the branch you actuelly climb on could break. My parents could tell me what they want, but I had to learn by myself that a branch can break and falling down can hurt. And of course if something was forbidden it had a special charm to do it anyway.

These German playgrounds are subject to strict regulations and are technically sophisticated to ensure safety. TÜV nothing is left to chance.

3:30 But the problem lies with society! In Germany, people pay more attention to each other, although this has also changed a lot in the last 20-30 years.

And don't forget we have a completely different health insurance system that is deducted from our wages . Depending on how much you earn, a certain percentage is automatically deducted and you are always at least insured. And we don't have to pay $3000 for an ambulance every time and if you get sick in the hospital you get a completely excessive bill to pay afterwards

It was the same when I was a child. My parents were a bit older than the average parents, but they also let me do things early on. Alone or with friends to the nearest playground and then played there until late in the evening. Every now and then my father would come along with our dog. Sometimes neighbours who had their garden (allotment) near the playground would invite us over for a barbecue.

On the playground, on the streets, when children are alone and there are grown ups around, they keep an eye on them, be sure. And they will hesitate to help them as the will not be sued afterwards.

In Germany we have got a very special relationship to our forests and in this way to wood. So most of the playgrounds have got lots of play equipment made of wood with rope ladders and rope chain bridges. Here an example (even for us adults it would be nice to climb on it): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SmDLxSspS58.html

Here again, in my experience, the woman gave incorrect information. In Germany, children have traffic lessons in primary schools. Here, the children learn how to behave correctly either in the traffic garden or in direct traffic. This includes the correct behavior when crossing streets, zebra crossings and traffic lights. Riding a bike in traffic, including the bike test and much more. In most federal states, this training takes about 3 - 4 weeks.

Bear in mind that this is the same percentage of the population as in Germany. But you must not forget that this also includes all cases where a child runs away and/or is late and the parents report this to the police. And all this in a range from 0 years to the age of 14, perhaps even 16. It doesn't mean that over 300K children disappear from playgrounds every year. As a US citizen, I would be more concerned about firearms being the #1 cause of death for minors, not illness or traffic accidents. In 2021 alone, 4733 children and teens, or 13 per day. I would be more afraid of that than anything else.

Our German number of 90k cases in 2023 includes to quite some degree teenage runaways and unaccompanied foreign adolescents going AWOL from care institutions. And it’s probably is closer to 45k individual kids, with a significant percentage of them „disappearing“ several times a year.

Please americans dont tell others that it would be "safe" for children or teenagers to walk to school or walk home alone in germany or walk around alone in general. I dont want that people really believe that they wouldnt have to worry about crime in germany, and then they might experience crime and get hit by reality. I dont care if you "feel" safe in germany. If you want to judge if something is safe or not, then dont go by feeling, look into crime statistics. We hear about new extremly brutal knife attacks, murder, rapes or terrorist attacks, daily, actually hourly. Just follow crime related news and police reports. Last year we had around 14.000 documented knife attacks in germany and it keeps getting more and the cases become more and more cruel and brutal. And thats only knife attacks, there are also thousands of cases of murder, rape and group rape and other sexual violations and commited in the most digusting and cruel ways. The criminals keep getting younger and younger. A school principal talked about it on tv and that more and more children/teenagers carry knifes when they are in school. Sounds like a pretty safe environment right, who wouldnt want his children or little siblings to be in a classroom or schoolyard surrounded by aggressive teenagers with knifes in their pockets. And just that there is no midunderstanding, it is not the german children/teenagers who are commiting these crimes. The crime came with the developements that are happening since 2014/2015. Before that, like 15 and 20 years ago, it was like 100 times safer. That is not at all up to date anymore, If i had a young sister or so, i would not at all want her to walk around alone.

Errrrmmmm.

That´s nonsense. For sure as a kid or teenager you don´t care about the news and statistics. But getting older ... maybe have your own children you are much more worried. This makes you "think" it´s becoming worse and worse. Every generation feels the same. If this "feel" was true we all would not exist. Look at the statistics, it clearly shows that the killing rate in the early 1980ies was almost twice as high as nowadays. True is: the number is rising, a little bit. But it´s still far from the the 1980ies ... and far from US numbers. And one should have an eye on this. You say it is not save to let your kid walk alone to school. True and not. True is: there is no 100% safety. Also true: if you drive them by car ... it is about same risk to get into a traffic accident. So what is the option: To lock your child into your house? Again not safe: Most children abuse is done by parents and close relatives in their homes. OOOPPPs! Live is dangerous. And one thing is true: you will die. But why will you die: The most often case: health, heart attacks. 45,000 every year about 10,000 die by suicide, 2800 by car accidents, about 300 murdered. So if you want to live longer: don´t smoke, eat healthy do fitness, avoide sucide (by mentally supporting your children), don´t drive (in) a car. In this order! So if you reduce the heart attacks by tiny bit of 0.6% it over rules all the murder numbers. Or if you reduce suicide rate by 3% .... Yes 14,000 knife attacks. How many died? less than 50. How many suicides? 10,000... how many died? 10,000!!
