#1 is not the best advert. #2 has a legendary status in the whole of the UK and went viral on release. That is classed as the all time best Irn Bru ad.

Just want to point out since I've seen a lot of Americans miss the context is that #2 with the Snowman is a parody remake of the Christmas short film The Snowman, which is one of those films they show every year, every one knows and recognises the music and art style, and lives up to the description of being iconic. I think the closest equivalent in America would be something like a Charlie Brown Christmas. The original is really sweet and the featured snowman is really sweet so that's part of the Irn Bru twist.

Irn-Bru's advertising slogans used to be 'Scotland's other National Drink', referring to whisky, and 'Made in Scotland from girders ', a reference to the rusty colour of the drink; though the closest one can come to substantiating this claim is the 0.002% ammonium ferric citrate listed in the ingredients

The snowman ad is a beautiful pastiche of the The Snowman, a book by Raymond Briggs that was made into a film, and shown nearly every Christmas. @Hey Look Squirrel in Scotland, especially Glasgow, those ads created a saying when Irn Bru was mentioned, it was immediately associated with being Made In Scotland.....From Girders.....hence the name Irn (Iron) Bru (Drink) an old wives tale of making you strong, helps you get through the day.....like a coffee or bar of chocolate would, as it was packed with sugar, the adverts were meant to be like a comedy, cheesy and some, old fashioned, piss takes to be precise lol, anyways, it was packed with sugar and when the UK Government introduced a sugar tax in 2018 they changed the recipe in order to avoid paying the extra on tax and it didn't go down to well, thousands of people stopped drinking it and sales plummeted because it just didn't taste the same, they recently brought out a limited edition bottle which had a lot of sugar back in it, "like the old recipe" as it was marketed as Irn Bru 1901, but it was priced far to high, double the price to be exact, of a normal glass bottle of Irn Bru, so sales weren't very good, as off 2021 there are countless petitions pleading for them to go back to the old recipe, but so far it's fallen on deaf ears, so I hope this help you or anyone watching this video, know what the ads are about, I have to say, there's better ones than what was showed in this clip, the Snowman one is a parody of the children's Christmas film called The Snowman, it's a traditional UK short film that's shown every Christmas, up here in Scotland we associate it with the likes of the Coca Cola advert, when you see that truck on TV you know it's Christmas, well we, Glaswegians especially say that it's not Christmas until the Irn Bru Snowman advert is on 😂👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Irn Bru have had quite a few adverts banned over the years too, one I remember that caused great controversy was a billboard add that featured an old guy sat on an armchair with two large dogs beside him. The caption read "I love Irn Bru and so do my two bitches". Another featured a cow and the caption "When I come back as a burger I want to be washed down with a can of Irn Bru". British advertising uses a LOT of comedy, and many are really hilarious. Irn Bru is hugely popular in Scotland as a hangover cure also. "Made in Scotland from Girders" was a common tag line, which led to the suggestion anyone drinking it would be endowed with super-human strength, the comedy in some of the ads. Fun Fact: Popular belief (derived mostly from a comedy sketch as far as I can tell) has it that 'iron brew' were forced to change their name to 'irn-bru' to avoid legal trouble because it neither contains iron (at least not in any meaningful amount) nor is it brewed. In reality, Barr had trademarked 'irn-bru' well before WW2, and while they ultimate changed the name partly because new labelling restrictions to crack down on spurious health claims were about to be enforced, it was mostly due to the fact that 'iron brew' had come to be used as a generic term for the flavour of the product by rival manufacturers. Irn-Bru allowed them to retain their recognisability while also giving Barr a legally protected brand identity for the product.

If you see this or have been told about it but you should check out the Irn Bru 32 adverts (it was a short-lived run of the original drink kinda like Pepsi max to regular pepsi, the one ad where a bird breaks through a wall n talks to a guy in the library especially), check out some of the Jobseekers adverts ("oi you lavvi heed your gettin it"). Number 2 is so nostalgic for me. Fanny is slang for vagina but if you call someone a fanny it's more like your calling them an idiot as opposed to a vagina. Werid contextual double meanings.

@@TheRealSquirrel Irn-Bru's advertising slogans used to be 'Scotland's other National Drink', referring to whisky, and 'Made in Scotland from girders', a reference to the rusty colour of the drink; though the closest one can come to substantiating this claim is the 0.002% ammonium ferric citrate listed in the ingredients.

IRN-BRU make some amazing tv ads...proper funny.....two catagories that most of their ads fall into are, 1-funny humour related to scotland or 2-lets take the piss out of american tv ads 😂😂😂 my fave and probably most famous is the number 3 "made in scotland from girders" one....love the way they parody the american tv ads 😂😂😂

So a bit of context: most of these adverts are taking the piss out of something else, their advertising department loves to send up other cultures and make satirical references to pop culture. A couple of examples of that are the high school musical one making fun of programs like Glee, number 3 is making fun of the American style of commercial. These ads are from the last 30 years and don't really age that well, but when they are released they are really good satire. I can't remember what number one is sending up, but I do remember it being very appropriate at the time.
