@Far1988
@Far1988 4 месяца назад
It's not offensive in the slightest. The thing he's referring to is called ragù bolognese, or sauce bolognaise in french, aka Spaghetti Bolognese (though it's not served with spaghetti because they can't hold the heavy sauce). Now for him and most Italians the combination of "Ravioli" and "ragù" makes it obvious that he's referring to bolognese (or at least some type of hearty sauce), but for many people outside of Italy, they don't automatically associate ragù with bolognese. Most people probably think of ragout, a hearty stew. So for them Ravioli ragù/ragout would likely be ravioli with meat chunks and vegetable chunks in some sort of stew.

Dude, if you have never visited Italy and tried their food in some families homecooked meals or in some restaurants the locals love to go, you haven't lived! The Italian soldier is so sceptic all the time and polite for the circumstances I might add. If you get what he gets at home, this "food" doesn't appear like edible sustenance. He is spoiled with the best food on the planet. You can't be angry at him. It's not his fault.

I have once seen and tasted a Hungarian ration kit, and it was also mainly Hungarian meals in cans. But... not very good. There were some water sanitizing tablets: if the soldier's only access to water is mud water, they can make it drinkable. Nothing gourmet or fresh or yum-yum, it has to last a long time and it has to fill you up.
@farmaccount1653
@farmaccount1653 4 месяца назад
To be fair, combat rations aren't really meant to be fabulous. They're supposed to be high calorie, quick prep, easy to carry things. I served in the British Army from '84 to '94. In the 80's at 24 hour rat pack (ration pack) was a box approximately 8" Square. Which contained 3 meals, a brew kit and a hexy cooker, which could be packed into your webbing easily. With the introduction of Bint Bags (Boil in the bag) You could (in theory) get a 'better' meal. Heating on was easy if you were on the move a lot because you could just drop one down the front of your Combat jacket. Your body would then heat it so that it was at least warm...ish. The most important item in there was the brew kit. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, powdered milk and boiled sweets (usually Spangles) and toilet paper oh, and a Yorkie. I think the combined calorific value was in the region of 5000-6000. Nobody from other nations liked our rats. We just ate it and moved on lol. I once met an Italian Alpine soldier on an exercise. His rations included some Grappa!!! Only in Italy, lol
@Mamaki1987
@Mamaki1987 4 месяца назад
The advantage with the American MRE is that you don't need to light a fire and that is quicker. But yeah, I wouldn't call it a pizza either. And yes, that seems a one meal only. But I did see other American MREs as well with accessories like water tablet and drinks and so on. I had canned ravioli before, and if it is anything like the one I had, it is actually quite good. And yeah, I wouldn't like chicken in jelly either. That is an aquired taste or something like that.
@wolf310ii
@wolf310ii 3 месяца назад
But you have to carry a lot water and plastic waste with you. Most european MRE can be eaten cold (ravioli are total fine at room tempreature) or even contain item that dont need to be heat up (chocolade, canned bread, cookies, ect.) and there is no need for extra water to prepare the meal.

The American soldier is not lying when she says that canned ravioli is good. No Italian (soldier or not) would settle for a dish they don't like, the food culture in Italy is almost a religion for them. Give an Italian soldier bad food and he will go over to the other side. Of course this food is incomparable to when those same dishes come straight from the kitchen. And the fact that the package contains cutlery... in Europe we use them whenever we can, we get used to it from when we are children. I have seen Americans in restaurants who do not know how to use them.

@BenjaminVestergaard
@BenjaminVestergaard 4 месяца назад
By what I've seen of US MREs, they seem awesome considering they basically only need water, and they're light weight because the US has perfected freeze-drying. But if clean water is difficult to come around, the canned food wins. Lighting a fire close to the front may not be the greatest idea of all time, as the enemy will be able to smell it and see the smoke... on the other hand, a self-heating meal, and its steam, will also show up if you have thermal vision. The original idea of MRE was that it should be edible without any cooking, in than sense I think the cans win a little bit again... eating freeze-dried chili con carne out of the bag, as to not reveal your location sounds a bit dry to me. Anyway... serving pizza to an Italian... of course it won't get a great score, but he was very diplomatic saying that you can't expect "home cooked" in battle. Perhaps that's something, the little startup, NATO could do better. An international effort to improve the MREs for all members... that would get countries proud of their cuisine (Italy, France, Greece and Turkyie just to mention a few) to pay more attention... Problem would be that when the boys return home, they'd expect better food. I can't say a winner... they both have pros and cons... depends on who's the enemy and what's the weather like.

That works out at about £6000 per second. We are about 1/6 the population of the USA, so it would approximate the USA spending £36,000 per second / $40,000. I think US food is better. It may not taste as good, but it is intended to be a temporary solution and only be used for a few days. Afterwards they usually end up in a camp where there is better food anyway. The Italians have to carry too much with them.

The Italian is not a MRE but a K-Ration (an old K-Ration, the Italian ratio has no longer the stove for several years) that is used in mission and contain the food for an entire day.

Just the smell of peanut butter or peanut m&ms makes me gag. I cant stand the idea of peanuts with sweet stuff. I like dry roasted peanuts...they're salty and savoury and should be nowhere near chocolate lol. That is a personal thing not a UK thing.

Hello, I have an interesting question. Could you in one video react to a video about Finno-ugric languages, I believe this could be very interesting to hear languages that have nothing to do with English, German, Polish or French. (English, German, Polish and French all of them belong to the Indo-European languagefamily) I can Show a very similar words in English, Polish and German. (I don’t know French) 🇺🇸🇬🇧: Water 🇩🇪: Wasser 🇵🇱: Woda/Wodę 🇺🇸🇬🇧:Bus 🇩🇪:Bus 🇵🇱:Autobus

Why would you assume the American is being dishonest? What would be the point of making the video of they weren't going to share their HONEST opinions? If anything I would have assumed the American palate to be generally inferior to that of Europeans. Particularly Italians and French! Obviously an Italian MRE is going to be better than an American one, just think about it for a second... Italian food is the most popular in America for a reason

I don't want to be mean but the Spanish "bricks" are much better than that Yankee thing. I have eaten some and they have very good preserves. The only problem is that you have to heat them with a kind of oven and I suppose that in the rain and in the countryside you need to be covered and dry.

The big difference is, the italian MRE is for serval days (even called 24 hour ration), while the US MRE is only one meal with a lot of plastic waste in the bag. Also for most european MRE you usually need water only for the drinks, not to prepare the meal like US one and you can eat the meals even cold.

@@wisteria3032 What I wrote, good tasty food instead of snobbery. We prefer that over boring food put on piedestal. (Italians are fine though, no hard feelings.)
@wisteria3032

@@herrbonk3635 🤣🤣🤣 I know, there are a lot of "pizza snobs" in Italy but I think it's a bit different. Let me use just pizzas as an example because otherwise it will take forever So, if you take the basic pizza - marinara and margherita - they are not boring at all. they are simple, which is very different. But there is a big difference between being pizza snob as in "knowing how a pizza should taste and if the pizza base or sauce is wrong you point out that that pizza or that pizza place is not up to standard" and being a pizza snob as in "oh my gosh what did you put on this pizza, this ingredient is totally wrong, there are only twelve kinds of pizzas and everything else is wrong!" I have been once to a pizza place that was snob in the second way. And their quality was definitely not up to the standard they themselves decided 😅 I did not get back. If you think about it the problem is non-existent because the pizza was born as a hard bread dish with something on it that was saucy enough for the bread underneath to get flavoured. which meant you were supposed to eat what was inside the dish and the dish itself. that's it. nothing more complicated than this. And for example the "marinara" is just sauce because it was aimed to sailors (hence the name) because it was just the base and the sailors would put the fishes on it themselves. So all the pizza purists as basically wrong. I myself when I was young and reckless did try pizza with ananas - and I hated. I simply think the flavour was all wrong. Someone on the internet told me I have to try it where it was invented and not in Italy where they hate it and I agree. I would like to point out that in Italy we have figs pizza in a lot of places and that's really good but you will never find it sold because "you put what on the pizza???" So, I was really curious with the banana and curry thing. I hope you are at least referring to two different pizzas 😅 but if it's good then it's good. What is important is that the dough is well prepared and well cooked, that the sauce is not too oily and that it doesn't feel like you ate a brick. If you cook it well we can discuss the flavour and preferences. Most of the pizzas we have today have resisted centuries and the recipes have been perfected overtime. If I invent a new pizza it will probably have problems in how the flavours are balanced and how they change when it's cooked and how much liquid the dough absorbs and so on So often enough strange pizzas are bad not because they are a bad idea but because they haven't had enough time to get balanced. sorry for the pizza essay 😅
@herrbonk3635
@herrbonk3635 4 месяца назад
@@wisteria3032 Ananas is good with pork, but I don't care much for it on pizza, especially no as a ring. Because it's too wet and also too dominant in that context. A sliced banana (not raw!) works much better with the ham and curry over the nice thin bread with cheese and tomato sauce that is a pizza.
