That sound/beat your are talking about is specific to reggaeton. It lets you know you listening to reggaeton. In a lot of latin music genres they have specific sounds, beat patterns, etc. that are a signature to designate the genre. This is true with reggaeton, just like salsa, bachata, merengue, cumbia, dominican dembow, etc.

Yes that beat type is very common in new music in latin culture. Its basically a reaggeaton beat. But honestly, its the best rythm I hear daily. It never gets old to me tbh.
