people probably don't see him as a leader because he's kinda of a shy person, and humble, so he is not the player to boss people around, but we have seen him being the leader in various moments
also that rumor comes from a lot of messi haters they love to doubt him. If Ronaldo were to loose the first game against Arabia the same way messi lost they wouldn't have said "where is Ronaldo".
We're used to the Roy Keane style of captaincy - an extension of the manager on the field, as such. @salvadorzorraquin8864 - I may be a United fan for my sins but Messi and Ronaldo makes me think of the Rocky movie with the Russian; one with heart and talent and the other a refined machine made flesh. Driven by the love both, Ronaldo seemed more thirsty to be a brand and long [outwardly] forgot the love through constant drills and training to be the best, Messi is the 'everyman' with a talent that could make a believer of many.
Nowadays people need to advertise/ show / command etc to look like a leader . When his teammates said " I would go on a war for Messi " that's it . That's peak leadership or may be a devotion .
Did you notice Messi became more aggressive on his games after Diego and Pele were not there to Criticise him? His respect for his idols was on another level. With all those negative words against him by Maradona made him hate himself ir think he was not worth it🤔🤔🤔? But after the demise of Argentina's Football God maradona. Messi and Scalioni took the reigns of Argentina's football. Both humble guys and people you could relate to.
@@rickybuhl3176 I heard a great phrase about that; Ronaldo is what an Engineer would make of a Football player, and Messi is what an Artist would make, or something like that. As a Messi fan, Ronaldo is a perfect football player, but Messi is just a Miracle, a singularity, we will never see something like that again.
As an Argentine I just want to highlight one thing. Messi played most of his career in the national team with players who considered themselves equals with him, who knew he was better but still kept on par. This 2022 Argentina team is almost completely filled with young players who grew up watching messi as the best of all time, and this squad played solely to watch messi lift the trophy. That's why emi Martinez said messi is 99.9% of the team, the team plays for him.
as another argentine, yep that was the magic that made Argentina win the world cup. All the team members gave the best for him, for his glory, for his captain. So no Egos or individuality just a team united to give Messi (and the argentinians) the World Cup.
@@keebs67also wc 2006 was fucking intense. Zidanes last game. Legendary panenka from him. Than scored Materazzi. And than Zidane lose his mind vs Materazzi in extra time. Fucking intense. But also WC Final 2014 was fucking intense. Just have a look at schweinsteiger in the extra time. The guy fighting for his life. But the final 2022 had more unexpected twists
Argentinian fan here, Messi´s pass versus Netherlands made me cry, not for the rivalry we have with that team but the art behind the pass. He is an artist.
One of the best parts of the final was Montiel that scored the final penalty, he was the one that gave up the last penalty for Mbappé so he got redemption by winning the match with his penalty
Montiel's family was poor, so it is known he used to do penalties for money as a kid. As a professional he has never missed a penalty despite him being a defender. I'm a River fan, his youth club, when I saw he walking as the last penalty taker, I knew we were Champions and started crying before my friends. From doing penalties for some pocket money as a kid, to the last penalty in the World Cup final. EDIT: It really does feel it was written in the stars, the entire team has crazy histories coming to the World Cup. Like Enzo Fernandez's teenage heartfelt letter to Messi when he had given up on NT after losing 3 consecutive finals, to Dibu Martinez being a relatively unknown keeper to becoming such a boogeyman that FIFA has created new rules for keepers to keep his antics in check, etc.
@@kairoz1352 That's so cool!! I had no clue about Montiel!! Thx for the info I could barely watch the lasr penalty and I'm not even an Argentinian I've just been following Messi since 2004. He is the football player that made me fall in love with the game! I'm from Sweden but I always root for Argentina in the world cup. Sweden comes first ofcourse but when we inevitably get knocked out, it's Argentina that my football heart beats for!
Montiel also has a tattoo of three stars in the neck. When he goes to take the penalty and the camara does a close up on His face you can really see them. Its destiny
Honestly, Messi’s international career could easily make a great movie. It was full of missed potential and getting so close to glory. There was a 3 year span where he led them to 3 finals and lost. To come back from that takes some real tenacity. Easily the best modern player
in the World Cup, Germany was his kryptonite for a long time. He was eliminated by Germany in three World Cups in a row. In 2006, as a huge talent with Argentina (who were the best team in the tournament up to that point), they easily survived the group of death against the offensively outstanding Dutch, the Ivory Coast with Drogba, who were considered the best African team of the tournament and secret favorites, and also dismantled Serbia 6:0. Later finalists Italy and France had bigger problems than Argentina. France failed to win their first two group games against Switzerland and South Korea and only made it to the last 16 thanks to a win against the glaring underdog Togo. Italy only made it to the quarterfinals thanks to a scandalous penalty kick in the 5 minute of stoppage time against the glaring underdog Australia. Before the quarterfinals, Argentina was considered a slight favorite for the title as they were the best team so far. They also led against Germany in the QF. But Germany made it 1-1 through Klose 10 minutes from the end and won dramatically in a penalty shootout. In 2010 when Messi was already the best player in the world his dream shattered again against Germany, they had no chance in the QF and were humiliated 0:4. T. Müller was a beast in this match (Müller won btw more WC individual trophies than Messi: he won Best young Player 2010 (WC 2006 won Podolski best young player and not Messi or Ronaldo. Müller won also golden boot 2010, silver boot 2014 and Silver Ball 2014) In 2014 Messi dramatically lost the final again against Germany in extra time. So he failed in 3 WCs in a row against Germany.
I can't stop crying lol I've watch him since he debut for his club. Seen his story and watched him grow. Its an emotional video. A beautiful ending to the World's Greatest of All Time.

It's hard to properly put into words what Messi means to us. I've seen this man since i was 6 back in 2006. Just like how Kempes in 1978, and Maradona in 1986 did , we wanted to see him lifting that trophy more than anything. It was an incredibly harsh path from 2006 to 2022. Eliminations, finals lost, him almost retiring, yet he came back and put us at the highest level of football. Youth world cup 2005 , Gold medal at the Olympics 2008, Copa America 2021, Finalissima 2022, and World Cup 2022. He gave us everything playing for our country, for his country. Viva Argentina, viva Messi 🇦🇷

The lady is britsh , she was a former female player. i just laughed when you said your not sure english is her first language 🤣.People at the time thought Messi was not a leader because he is a shy guy , not very vocal but when you see the players look up to Messi and he leads by example with the way he plays you can see he is a leader
@@CoreyMcKinneyFC Also, Messi had to live his entire career in Argentina with the pressure of being compared to Maradona. Who was (and still is for many people) the GOAT before Messi. If you ever watch this video agaain, look for the flags with Messi and a guy with curly hair, that was Maradona. There's literally a religion for Maradona. Imagine being a 16yo kid and being compared to someone that some people treat like a god, literally. And Maradona was like... born to be a leader. Literally, he was captain of a professional team of grown men while being 16yo... that would be impossible to see today. He used to speak a lot, lead the team, he has even negotiated their teammates salaries more than once. Messi is like the complete opposite, he barely talks. When he talks he looks at the ground, totally shy. So, when the older captains of Argentina started retiring due to age, Messi got the captain role and a lot of people said he would never be a true leader like Maradona was... At the end, he is a diferent kind of leader, but just as effective, they both ended up being world champions. Maradona in 1986 and Messi in 2022
That lady doesn´t know what a leader really is. A boss orders people around, a leader sets the example by himself. Messi is that kind of player many people want to be.
IT COULD BE TODAY GRANDMA His grandmother was the first to support him in his career, when "Leo" was just 4 years old, his grandmother Celia took him to a game, even though they were older children, so they did not want to let him play, but his grandmother always supported him. Doña Celia said "put it on", but they told her: "no, no, it's too small", but she yelled again "put it on, it's going to save the game", being reported by 'Leo' himself, who scored two goals in that game. Unfortunately, she died when he was 11 years old, that's why some of his celebrations are to look at the sky and point at it.
Well it's true that messi doesn't look that old while playing. But he's definitely past his prime. Yet he's still one of the best even today. You just haven't seen prime messi. Nowadays he just uses his brain a lot more and uses his teammates efficienctly. Prime messi was a different type of player. He was an absolute monster. He'd run into a packed defensive line and somehow goes through everyone. He has single handedly taken apart the best defences in the world. He just doesn't have the legs to do that kind of stuff anymore. It is still the most freakish thing I've ever seen in football. Good memories😮💨
Another important detail about Messi's World Cup is that his team for the last few years is made up of some of his best friends and then players who are much younger than him and idolize him like their hero. Julián Álvarez, who scored 4 goals for Argentina in the tournament and was turning 23 a month later, said in an interview when he was a kid that his dream was to play with Messi. Just imagine what it means to win the greatest tournament in the sport with your greatest idol. Another player, Enzo Fernández, a vital midfielder for us and same age as Julián (was even his club teammate) wrote Messi a letter when he left the National Team after losing two consecutive Copa América finals, asking for him to come back, to keep trying with us. This team defended Messi to death, and would've gone through hell to give him the World Cup. They watched as he so lost many finals, like all of us Argentinians did, with great sorrow and grief, yet they have now helped him earn 3 international titles in the span of a couple years. It's an incredible, beautiful story.
@@kryss2056thats bc argentina was so dangerous offensively. they got into the box so simply and scored in rapid fire action. if they win the 26 copa america, they will be, the greatest national team ever assembled.
@@kryss2056 another detail is that there was no penalty against Mexico and Australia, another detail is that the first penalty they were given didn't amount to anything since they lost that game, another detail is that Messi missed one penalty against Poland so it didn't even affect the result, so basically Messi scored 4, and only 3 were worth it, they also were one of the teams with most yellow cards against and had 2 penalty kicks against them in the final match, so yeah gtfo outta here with that lmao
En realidad no fue Enzo Martinez el que escribio esa carta. Él solo copio y pego la carta que estaba circulando por internet. El que escribio la carta fue Grego Rosello, un comico que ahora es conductor de entrevistas, o algo asi.
An example of how big and beautiful football is. My tiny country Costa Rica in World Cup 2014 finnish in position number 8th we made it to quater finals (lost against the netherlands on pennalties) and that was the greatest thing that my little country has ever made in football history is was an underdog story we beat 3 world champions a country of 5M people beating ex world champions and became top 10 in that WC we didnt even reach semmifinals and was the most magical thing that ever happen to us, the whole country was a party the entire country was on the streets millions and millions celebrating under the same flag, thats how big is football for the rest of the world. I cried typing this bc of the memories and the feelings of living that moment, it was a beatiful month so much passion and patriotism thats why is the beautiful game and how a simple game can bring together a whole country and be proud of your flag
Yeah I think your team was in the group of death with Italy, England and Uruguay (7 World Cups) and beat in the next round former European champion greece on penalties if I am not wrong. Navas played fantastic and because of this tournament he go to Real. Unfortunately they lost against the three time World Cup runner up Netherlands (74,78,2010) and European Champion from 1988 on penalties. Cruel but your country can so proud of this tournament
2:40 Messi is very much an introvert and shy person, and for many many years we barelty ever saw him say anything in media or interviews. This is why people had this perception of him. But in recent years he's felt more comfortable taking the main spotlight.
He’s more relaxed now in his game is not taking on as much players as he was 15yrs ago he’s letting the ball and everyone else around him do the work and at 36yrs old it’s not fun getting kicked and fouled lol
As Argentinian I must say that it's impossible not to cry every time I see these videos of the World Cup, thank you for reacting to our moment of suffering and pure joy.❤ 🇦🇷
The GOAT The ONLY human EVER to win every possible title Individual , Club and National . Multiple Balandor - Individual Award for best player in the Year, Multiple Golden Booth - Best Goalscorer in a year, Multiple UCL - biggest club title, Multiple League Titles - 12 , Every possible award whit Barcelona and Argentina , 43 Trophies in total so far - Most in football HISTORY.
Messi and Gerd Müller are the only two players who won WC, CL, Ballon d‘Or and European golden boot. Crazy stat thought it would be more. And both won also their continental trophy
Ok. Some history about that celebration at the 13:14 mark. That celebration is called "Topo Gigio". The one who first did it was Juan Román Riquelme, another Argentinian magic footballer and one of Messi's teachers in the National Team, who at the time played for Boca Juniors (club crest is my profile pic). After he did the celebration he said it was a reference to the kids show Topo Gigio that his daughter liked, but the gesture of spreading your ears in that stance was actually a tease directed at the club's president who he didn't like much, as a sign of defiance: "I heard what you said". Thing is, Riquelme went on to play for Barcelona where the coach was Louis Van Gaal, who treated him like shit and made him play in uncomfortable positions, wasting his talent. That same coach had Angel Di María (one of Messi's teammates in this WC) in Manchester United, and it was the only time where this player failed to perform at club level. Again, the coach's fault. Louis Van Gaal was now the coach for this Netherlands team and like his whole squad and former dutch players, talked shit about Messi, Di María, and Argentina before this game. So Messi came to this particular game with rage in his eyes. Doing that celebration he basically says: "You talked too much beforehand, here I am", while also paying tribute (and in a way, doing some poetic revenge) on Riquelme's and Di María's names. Keep in mind that Messi is 99% of the time a humble, low profile kind of guy who would much rather stay quiet and do his thing than pick up a fight.
Really well put! And if there was a signature celebration for Messi, it would be the one where he points a finger on each hand towards the sky (A dedication to his grandma who passed when he was 11)
Another thing is most of these kids that played with Messi in this Argentinean team were young when Messi started playing. They idolized him, he was their role model. They watched him win everything at club level and they watched him try time and again to win with Argentina and failed every single time. They saw the heartbreaking moments, they saw the abuse from his own people, they saw the frustrations so when they got the chance to fight for their idol, they were willing to die for him. They basically played their lives out for him and Messi also gave them their very best. The result is the beautiful ending. If the boys at Miami are willing to play for Messi, the team will go places. Otumfour Kojo Agyemang
If you don't understand how important the World Cup is, this will show you how popular the event is The World Cup is the most popular sporting event in the world, surpassing even the Olympic Games in terms of popularity.
Im from Argentina, I don't even know how I got to this video..but I literally cried watching it because even though that was 7 months ago..people can say "ohh move on. Thats old news". Not to us. I will remember this World Cup until the day I die. I'm 35 years old, I absolutely love football..and to watch our country win the World Cup after 36 years!!! And on top of that..watch Messi..the greatest of all time..uuuufff!!! December 2022 was a great time to be alive. I have nothing but beautiful memories. Football is a beautiful sport. Us, Argentineans, are so passionate about it. No one will ever understand how we felt during the World Cup. Not enough words to describe how happy the entire country was because finally..Messi had won the World Cup, Argentina had won the World Cup.
I think it's also important to consider that the world cup was in Qatar. Very far away from the continent of south America. Look how many people showed up for Argentina
I'm not an emotional person but the commentator that you hear crying has been a commentator for as long as I can remember.. he is from Argentina.. and hearing him cry of happiness made me shed a tear. It was unbelievable..
It was not the media that was mocking Messi it was Saudi Arabia fans that was mocking Messi, they were just happy that there team caused a upset against one of the Tournements favourite teams to win the World cup.
Nice reaction bro! I'm from Argentina, with my 45 y.o I've seen both Maradona and Messi, still remembered the 86 WC champion team, but my fav team is this 22 team, all players support Messi and helped him to win at last the world cup. Vamos Argentina carajo! 🏆⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥🇦🇷
hey I just wanna say, these people who hate, just ignored them, hate is always gonna show up whatever tf u do so yea, I enjoyed you and your brother journey so far!
25:30 Panenka is when you chip it forward and the ball does a big arch almost over the head of the goalkeeper. Messi has done a few Panenkas in the past, but his signature penalty is this one, where he just waits and waits until he sees the keeper commit to a side, and then just rolls nicely it to the opposite direction.
Panenka got famous in the euro final 1976 vs Germany and CSSR where Antony Panenka scored the Panenka at the last deciding penalty vs Sepp Maier one of the best GK ever. And destroyed the german dream of 72 euro, wc 1974 and euros 1976 win in a row like spain did between 2008 - 2012
I've been watching this sport since I was maybe 7 or 8,I'm 33 now. I've seen a lot players during those time but never have I seen someone like Messi. I am glad to be alive and witness this history and when my son is old enough why I have loved this sport and why I bleed for AC Milan and Galaxy, I'll show him videos of Messi. The GOAT 🐐
7:10 - There was a time when many Argentinians turned their back on Messi. They saw how successful he was in Spain (playing for FC Barcelona), and felt insulted when he couldn’t do the same for his people. He felt the pressure of being considered the GOAT by millions, but most of all being compared to Maradona (another Argentinian GOAT who did manage to win his people a World Cup). They told him to leave the national team, to go play for Spain, and even sent death threats. Fast forward years later, and he hit a new prime and went on a terror with Argentina for a little over 2 years undefeated. He won the Copa America vs the defending champ Brazil, and then won the Finalissima vs the defending Euro champ Italy. He suffered so much and now going into this World Cup, he didn’t have just a team he had an army, along with 45 millions Argentinians + his global fans behind him. 14:09 - In a knockout/elimination game after 90 mins with no winner, they go to extra time (30 mins) and if there’s still no winner after that, then they go to a penalty shootout. Penalties are a whole different game on its own. The keeper plays a huge role and his job is to shake up the opponent (trash talk, make them nervous, delay the kick) and block the shot. You can be fast, strong, best dribbler, etc. all of that goes out the door when it comes to penalties, because if the pressure gets to you, you’re gonna either miss or take a bad kick, which the keeper is more likely to block. 22:05 - I believe nearly 5 million fans crowded the streets of Buenos Aires to celebrate their World Cup victory. This sport is loved, watched and played by billions. It’s just a reality and Europe and South America live and breathe this sport to their core. 22:31 - Fun Fact: If your country wins a World Cup, they earn the right to add a star to their badge. Argentina already had 2, and with the 2022 World Cup, they now have 3. This star now solidifies him on paper, in person, and in every aspect - the GOAT.
Messi is a leader and now that is undisputed. However, earlier on in his career when he was younger he was often criticised, especially in Argentina, about not having enough personality. This was due to his natural introverted nature. However, as time went on he began to develop as a leader and character and is not only undoubtably a brilliant captain for Argentina but was also an amazing captain for Barcelona as well. (For example, during the World Cup whenever Argentina were in a pressured situation he would never let any other player do a press interview, and instead took every single one himself in order to protect the players)
14:45 YESS 😂 EMILIANO MARTÍNEZ (Argentine goalkeeper) PLAYS MIND GAMES WITH OPPONENTS PLAYERS ❤🇦🇷 but every time he says, I’m gonna catch you in penalties, he will save that shoot for sure 💯 he is that confident…he is one of the reason why Argentina won the World Cup pretty comfortably. Messi will always be appreciated for Emi Martínez ❤

I see messi as an artist. I know football before but I love football when I see barcelona plays. It's just beautiful, and messi was one of the artists who make an art in barcelona game.
As an Argentine, I can't possibly describe to you what this meant to everybody here in Argentina. Probably our proudest and happiest moment as a nation. This is something that I'll tell my grandkids about. You seem interested on football, thank you for talking about our beloved sport and about Messi and our team with respect and genuine interest and not just to gather some likes. Good luck on your football journey.
Messi is a phenomenal baller, by far the best ever when it comes to playing football. But for a long time people saw him as a silent guy that doesnt lead his team. That is UNTIL recent years where he lead his national team with strenght and passion to win many trophies
Beautiful reaction my brother greetings from ARGENTINA. For the world cup final, my whole country was crazy. I prepare myself psychologically by not overflowing emotionally, but the passion is stronger and I did not enjoy it in the final match of Arg vs. Franci
Think he was never viewed as a leader as much as he was never the vocal player on a team never seemed like he bossed players about in a sense told them what to do. However saying that think anyone that played with him respected him highly for being the best him just being in a team would inspire as much hope as a speech some of the best leaders could give
There's also him being Argentina's captain fairly early in his career due to his performance on the pitch. He wasn't very commanding at the time and was very timid, but he's grown into the role and now he certainly is the best captain our NT could've ever had.
Messi not being seen as a leader comes a little bit from his shy or humble personality and a little bit because of being compared to Maradona. Truth be told Messi was not one to lead starting out in his career even though he was the best player even then but through out the years he really molded himself into a great leader especially in the last years with Argentina and absolutely crushed it in this world cup. People even say he was possessed by Maradona and that this version of Messi is the most Maradonian. All that being said, there is a lot of merit into what that lady reporter said, especially if you know the history of futbol with Argentina, Maradona, and Messi. Hope that helps a bit.
I feel blessed cause I watched it live without taking my eyes out even for a second . I felt as if I myself won the game. I'm no Argentinian but I don't know why may be its because I'm a Messi fan ❤.
I never leave any comments but your two videos reacting to Messi are beautiful. I hope how you allow yourself to be curious and open to changing your views inspires more people as your channel grows. All my best wishes and keep up the good work!
Awesome video, I'm Argentinian and I love to see people from around the world reacting to what I consider to be the best world cup final of all time. That game made me speedrun through all the stages of grief in half an hour. One little detail about what the other guy near the end of the video said though, doing the Panenka in penalties means chiping the ball into the goal rather than shooting with power to either side. This works a lot of times because the goalie usually picks a side and throws himself low, and a ball going high and center is both impossible to catch if you've already picked a side as a keeper and rarely expected because it's not common currency to see penalties taken like that.
Most of us like myself was fortunate enough to watch Messi play his whole career, i grew up playing cricket mostly and when I first started watching football Messi was who made me love the game and I can say the rest is history no amount of words could make anyone truly understand, but I must say seeing him lift that World Cup trophy was like we were all lifting it with him bcuz the doubters had that over his head his whole career but we all knew he was the goat with or without that trophy but the trophy was the icing on the cake.
Being from Barcelona I can tell you that this world cup is the LAST thing that he needed to be TOP 1 in history. He had achieved everything in football except for that. So winning it is just the cherry on top of his perfect career. This is why it brought so many emotions, not only for Argentina, but also for spanish who had followed him since the beggining. As a note, you are right; he's a great guy, simple, humble and shy.
@@CoreyMcKinneyFC Messi is very introverted, which is why she said some outsiders may not see him as a leader. But he was the ultimate leader for his country in this World Cup.

Unbelievable job for someone that’s just understanding the sport. Your level of understanding is great 👍🏾. Keep watching Messi is the 🐐 hands down. Ronaldo is. Beat too coming from a Messi fan but the wold cup solidifies every for Messi being the greatest
the WC finals were a war in my household with Argentina fans on one side and the France fans on the other... was crazy he won every award a football player will ever want. he is the top scorer in top 5 leagues. people who debate his greatness are blind. GOAT
I really liked your reaction and comments. I think it's not so easy to understand what football means to the rest of the world, and especially to Argentinians. Lionel Messi has brought us so much joy. He is the most humble and low-profile leader. Among all those giant players, this little man showed with his journey what it really means to never give up. Welcome Corey to the discovery of a new passion!
Corey, you claim to be new to soccer but you have a good eye and a heart that understands and sees clearly what goes on in the sport. You've seen Messi as a clear leader while 'sports people' have not. Now Messi is blessing your land with his magic. Keep it up. Greetings from a Peruvian in South Africa.
There are days where I still find it unbelievable that that Argentina team managed to pull off such a victory. It was such an epic and satisfying end to a stellar 17+ year career of perhaps the greatest football player ever to play the game. This World Cup was also called “The last dance” because it was not only the last one for Messi, but for his rival Ronaldo, Neymar, Suarez, Cavani and a whole generation of greats who were retiring upon elimination.
I'm not sure what the haters mean, you paused plenty of times and in my opinion found a really good balance between talking when the video was playing and articulating longer and more complex ideas when it was paused. One of the best reactions to this video I've seen yet. Cheers! :)

Many people did not count him as a leader because Messi did not achieve much trophies before for his national team. He lost 2 South American championship final and Fifa WC 2014.
Messi is the greatest player of all time man have been watching this Messi for 20 years still playing the same as he played since he was young 🫶🏾🫶🏾😎😎thanks for doing this vídeo soccer ⚽️ is something else the felling you don’t understand people fight and cry because of this man love from Africa Angola 🇦🇴 peace and love 🤘🏽
I loved this video! I’m from Argentina and there are many many videos explaining every step in Messi’s career, so you’d enjoy them. Saludos desde Argentina ❤🇦🇷
At end of the video, that commentator didn’t said all the achievements like awards, trophies 🏆 honors 😂 that Messi have if he says, the video will take probably half hour to finish ❤
Watching the final as an Argentine was heart attack inducing, but to then hear non Argentines calling it the greatest final of all time having won it, makes it worth it
Hi, friend! Don't really know how i got here, but I'm happy to see you get to know the legend of Messi while he's still playing. I'm actually from Argentina, so obviously I've seen him fight for this cup my entire life, and he is indeed the Goat. Now, I do wanna clarify a few things you were wondering about in this video. First of all, the journalist who said that maybe Messi wasn't seen as a leader wasn't as off as it seems. When it comes to the national team, Messi has been through a lot of loss in just a few years. Back in 2014 he lost the world cup, and then two back-to-back Copa Americas which led him to almost retire from the national team. He certainly didn't feel confident enough to be a true captain for the team because of the media scrutiny. In 2018, the manager was also one of the main reasons for our poor performance in Russia because of his bad relationship with the team. That's precisely when Messi started to take the mantle as a true leader in the group, because he wasn't comfortable before. He definitely led the team to the three victories of the last two years, but it was a long way coming for him to become that true leader. I hope this helps you understand. Also, as an Argentinean, this last world cup was absolute madness. I can't explain it to you, i really can't, but the air felt different throughout the entire two months leading to the cup. Ask most argentineans: we all could feel it, this was our year. The built up tension by the time the first match came up was absolutely insane. The whole country got up at 6 am to watch the match and i truly don't remember a bigger collective pain than the one we felt after losing the opener. The good thing was that we were still hopeful, and no one criticized Messi like it used to happen everytime something went wrong. We knew it was a necessary pain to go through to make this world cup win a little more epic. Truly a once in a lifetime experience 💙
Marco van Basten is a former Dutch striker who retired at 28 only because of injuries. He was probably the best striker of his generation, he has won 3 Ballon D’or, but in that time the award was only for European players playing in Europe. As great he was as a footballer, he was quite poor as a manager, which seems to be constant in football, only Zidane I would say is one of the greats that had success also as a manager. Ancelotti and Guardiola were good footballers, but nowhere near Zidane or Van Basten level.
I am Dutch and Van Basten was incredible and I often agree with him except when he talks about Messi. Sometimes I really don't know what more Messi has to do to convince some people. I mean just watch him. If you don't see he is the greatest, you are wasting your time watching a sport you clearly don't understand. As I said, I am Dutch but I only had one dream and that was for Messi to become World Champion. He deserves it more than anyone else.
Panenka penalty is something else. It is when you chip the ball into the middle of the net. It is named after Czecho-Slovakian player Antonin Panenka who scored a penalty like this first.
It's been 7 months since, and I still get emotional and tearful watching this incredible World Cup. As an Argentinian that has followed Messi's carreer since the beggining, watching him winning it all with Barcelona but none with Argentina... it's just too much man. It's literally a fairy tale of a career. He will go down in history as the best, most talented player of all time. Literal GOAT
Maradona and a lot of players criticized Messi of not being a Leader This World Cup was anything but that. Dude was in there like a Born Leader, DAMN!!
I cry everytime I see this video. I've been following him throughout years now. In 2014, I literally felt my heart break when Gotze scored that goal. So much pain over years and finally we got our reward. He deserved it so so much
After Netherlands I can only say that a part of his soul was possessed by Maradona , unbelievable passion and energy even for us long time Messi fans. Saudi loss and Netherlands instigation pushed him into a different zone.
Im just happy that I witnessed this world cup man i was there on the moments that everyone was shiting on meesi and argentina and to end it on that kind of war final I couldn't ask for more Messi completed football and he made all his fans happy even if they don't watch football anymore they have these memories forever and stories to pass down to the children THIS WAS THE GOLDEN ERA OF FOOTBALL be happy u was part of it
