I'm pretty sure a lot of locals don't appreciate this country enough. It takes someone from far far away to really show that this country has more than locals think of it :)) It was lovely indeed how she talks about life here. I loved it too :) There's also another video like this that I loved, you should check it out too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C2szAg3sQp8.html

I'm from Canada and I went to Hungary for the first time last summer. Veszprém, Balatonfüred, and Pápa. I'd like to go back next summer and maybe see Budapest. My favourite food was Túrógombóc. The Lángos was good too though. I found it interesting that people thank the city workers or say "good job" to them. They would think you're making fun of them in Canada. I've been learning Hungarian for three months so far. I hope to know some basic phrases when I return.

Every good soup becomes kocsonya in the fridge, if its cooked with the meat still on the bone, separated only after cooking. And, in old school healthy households the first course is always palinka.
@katherinespencer2073
@katherinespencer2073 9 месяцев назад
I LOVE kocsonya....aspic. You cook pig knuckles which have very little meat value but lots of bone broth value. Mother always put some garlic coves into it while cooking, and some salt. The boney part gets put into the center of a wide deep soup bowl, the broth poured around it & it cools and sets. Then paprika is sprinkled light over the aspic for a bit of colour. Like we do on deviled eggs. Aspic was very popular in the 70's in Toronto for luncheons. You should think of it as not jello....that sets your mind up for sweet fruit flavour rather than closer to clear soup flavour.

Kocsonya is only as good as the soup it is made from. Some who do it think of it as a separate dish and only concentrate on the "hoof and ear" part in fear of it not solidifying in the fridge, but it's not enough to make a good dish. If it's the gelatin taste that's striking you first (that's exactly what solidifies the soup coming out of the hoof and ear parts), then it is not a good kocsonya. It must have a meat soup taste, it must be salty and the spices must come through too.

Konyonya is a soup full of pig trotters ,tail,ears and pieces of skin and a ton of garlic ... when it's ready it gets strained and the liquid (what's gonna coagulate because of the natural gelatin from the skin and bones not because of jello :D) with the pig parts put in dishes and laid them in the cold but not in minus grade :) Btw I'm from Hungary too :)

05:58 - it is "rovásírás" meaning cuneiform writing. The Hungarians didn't "switch" to Latin letter during Stephen I, it was a longer and more violent process. Most of the commoners couldn't write neither in the cuneiform nor the Latin way. Stephen actually persecuted and banned cuneiform writing because he thought it was part of the ancient Hungarian belief system, so they burnt everything that was written the old way. Even unique records about the history of the Hungarians, about their beliefs, about the deeds of ancestrors, etc. Stephen I. thought he saved the country by christianizing it but he also violently erased its past too, so we can be grateful and we can feel pity for all the lost things at the same time. Hungarian prehistory is still very vague thanks to this era - we can only partly reconstruct what happened to the Hungarians before Stephen I. which is a great loss.

I just moved to Hungary in Veszprem to be exact and I don't have friends....😐 People do seem a little (too) uptight even with foreigners maybe mostly they don't speak English. I struggle a lot if I'm alone. I tried to find community gathering also from Facebook but again it's mostly in Hungarian with lost English translation version. I decided to avoid the winter back to my country (South East Asia) and come back here after end of March or something😐

@@chavellaminerva I see. I don't know where are you from, but if you look openly, even in Asia people are different in cities and in villages. In cities people tend to mind they own business. There are all kinds of people everywhere in the world, but nobody likes freeloaders. On the other hand, everybody likes honest and open people. Friendships don't start from wanting it, it starts with a say hello, a natural conversation, than whether you or the other offer to invite and meet again. Just like everywhere else. And like elswhere, if you are from other culture, people mostly interested to engage but maybe don't want to be pushy. And there are people who want something from others, they normally start the conversation. In Asia, people nicer on the outside, but a foreigner mostly expected to pay every time. In Hungary, people are not being kind because it's the social structure to show respect. If they kind it is genuine, comes from inside, and that's what they expect from others.
