For a lot of Brits fighting is a hobby. I used to work with a couple of enormous welders. Their idea of fun on a Saturday night was to go to a nightclub and start to fight each other to draw the bouncers in. Then they'd beat up the bouncers. They were proper scary. (and exceptionally good welders)
@drewnelson2029
@drewnelson2029 2 года назад
Been there mate ha, sometimes the lads did it for a laugh, sometimes some bouncers just needed taking down a peg, they were being bullies. I was about 19yrs old in a club and a bouncer punched my best mates bro. And my mate just happened to a very talented boxer who would go on to box for the Commonwealth, that night in the carpark, took on five, knocked four out, and the fifth was banging on the door to be let back in. Me mate was arrested for drunk and disorderly haha :)

Fun Fact: After his retirement, Mad Jack would ride the train to and from London (where he went to monitor his investment and retirement accounts, mostly because he was bored). On the way home, he would suddenly chuck his briefcase out a window. When a surprised passenger asking why he had done that, Mad Jack replied, "That's my back garden - I didn't want to bother carrying that damned thing all the way from the station."

During the fighting at Arnhem one of the British officers, Major Digby Tatham-Warter, acquired an umbrella. With the shells falling around them a Lieutenant remarked it wouldn't do him much good. Also let's not forget that neither the Kilts or bagpipes are actually Scottish. Mel Gibsons tartaned Scots in the film BraveHeart were only about 400 years too early dress wise they would have looked much the same as the English Last fact that more English, Irish and Welsh actually served in the Highland Regiments than Highlanders, as even back in the 1700s there weren't enough Highlanders to fill the ranks of Highland Regiments. The Black Watch Korean war Veteran and VC recipient Bill Speakman 6ft 4 or 5 Was an Englishman. The numbers say it all 5 million Scots 60 million English and Welsh.

People like this are a force of nature, look into Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 3rd Baronet OBE, commonly known as Sir Ranulph Fiennes and sometimes as Ran Fiennes, is a British explorer, writer and poet, who holds several endurance records. Typically for this kind of man, just three months after his surgery for a heart attack, Sir Ranulph ran seven marathons in seven days on each of the seven continents - from Patagonia (South America) to the Falkland Islands, Sydney (Australia), Singapore (Asia), London (Europe), Cairo (Africa) and New York (North America) He's still at it, Ranulph Fiennes is aiming to become the first person to have crossed both polar ice caps and climbed the highest mountain on every continent. He’s taking on this record-setting challenge across the globe to raise vital funds for Marie Curie, a charity close to his heart. The Global Reach Challenge in aid of Marie Curie will be the culmination of a lifetime of exploration and death-defying challenges for the 72-year-old adventurer (a 2016 pledge).

The Russian did not invade Poland to get at the Germans. They were allied with Germany and decided between them to have half of Poland each. They had close ties with Germany throughout the '30's in order for Germany to break the Versailles treaty - they did a lot of their research and training on Russian soil.

"Dude! This guy is INSANE!" Sorry to sound like a patronising prick here Dezz. But the clue is in the guys name. Now you see why we were picking individuals like him when we were watching the VC documentary with you. Just wait until you watch the Clarkson documentary, The Greatest raid of all. Then you will start to see what total badasses UK Commandos are. Also a silly side note. In the British military, the Commandos are listed as an infantry level force. They aren't considered (on an exceptionally pedantic level) special forces.
@andrewmstancombe1401
@andrewmstancombe1401 2 года назад
It must be remembered as well the Commandoes were Army originally the Royal Marine Commandoes originate from them. The US sent a group of US military volunteers to learn the new kind of warfare the Commandoes were teaching. But they couldn't call themselves Commandoes as that was British so they called themselves Rangers. The Commandoes were taught to fight by Lieutenant-Colonel William Ewart Fairbairn (/ˈfɛərbɛərn/; 28 February 1885 - 20 June 1960) was a British Royal Marine and police officer. He developed hand-to-hand combat methods for the Shanghai Police during the interwar period, as well as for the allied special forces during World War II. He created his own fighting system known as Defendu. Notably, this included innovative pistol shooting techniques and the development of the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife. The British government loaned him out to the US and he taught his methods to the OSS now the CIA and the Marines there is actual film of him teaching Marines during WW2 wearing a mask to hide his identity and wearing US uniform. I hope you found this interesting enough to check it out.

@@andrewmoss3681 here's a very short film of him teaching the OSS for secrecy reasons obviously this was top secret so there is very little film of fairbairn teaching his un armed combat technique. In the film " The Devils Brigade" in which the very real American and Canadian force is brought together a character very like Fairbairn wearing glasses picks on the biggest loudmouth American and floors him thereby showing off his unarmed combat although not named Fairbairn in the film and even made Irish for some reason only Hollywood knows. This real life character could only have been Fairbairn when you work it out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7DfL_iKTdTQ.html If you are interested in Fairbairn there's plenty on the Internet about him as well as his inventing of the Stilleto knife made for one reason only. To kill! It has no other use. I hope this helps. There are other films about Fairbairn if you're interested to look for them.

War Films to watch. Well myself I really love films made close to or during WW2 for these two reasons those made during the war were made at a time before the war ended its end was uncertain and those made shortly after had to stay mostly true to war experiences because their audience were often the people who fought there. Unlike today when films " based on fact" often aren't. So films made during WW2 that I like are many but here's a few. You may find these on RU-vid. The first of the few a film about the Spitfire and its designer artistic licence was made on this as it was after all a propaganda film but still its enjoyable to watch. The life and death of Colonel Blimp. The Way ahead. Went the Day well. Which is about a company of German soldiers dressed in British uniform pretending to be Polish they have a spy helping them. If you have ever read or seen the film, The Eagle has landed made in the late 60s that film is virtually a rip off Went the Day well as far as plot goes. In which we serve about the Royal Navy and one of its ships. Here are the last two from the forties Target for Tonight that had an actual Bomber pilot play the part of a Bomber pilot. Later he would die on famous raid to free some French prisoners in a nazi jail flying the Mosquito aeroplane called the wooden wonder fastest and first multi role aeroplane. This last of the 1940s has no star actors it's a film made about the Bridge too far at Arnhem it's stars are the real Paras the real soldiers that fought during the Battle. It's called Theirs is the Glory. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fiFeYxlPYy4.html Later films I'll keep to two but I assure you there are more. The first is called Reach for the Sky about legless Hurricane pilot Douglas Bader (pronounced, Barder) The second is the first Dunkirk film made in 1960 with big stars of the day sir John Mills Richard Attenborough Bernard Lee and many more. It's far more truthful about the action than that load of bollocks made recently. I'll add one more made in 1977 a Bridge too far.. about the Battle of Arnhem a brilliant film full of stars of the day. One falsehood is the part of the story which an officer tries to tell his senior officers that an SS Tank Battalion is in the area of the drop zone and nobody listens. That was not true made up for the film. In reality the US officer that asks why the British tanks weren't going forward actually lost his temper and shot at the lead tank. But it's a great film. I hope you watch and enjoy even if you don't actually review these films.
