Käsespätzle is not actually close to mac n cheese at all, because its a completely different kind of pasta. Spätzle, the kind of noodle used in this dish, is made in a completely different way and with different ingredients than maccaroni, leading the noodle to taste completely different than the kind of italian pasta americans use for maccaroni and cheese.

Flammkuchen is a dish that originally comes from Alsace but is also native to Rhineland-Palatinate. It tastes very good with cider. Real Spätzle are freshly scraped and are not only available as Käsespätzle, but also with lentils and come from Swabian. We always had Mettbrötchen for breakfast on the construction site. Add a pickle and you're happy. Schnitzel is not so typical here in Northern Germany, but "Grünkohl mit Pinkel". This is kale with Mettwurst a hearty, seasoned sausage and often smoked porkwhich called Kassler, is served more seasonally in autumn. Labskaus and of course fish or crab rolls are also popular here. Pork knuckles are also available here in northern Germany, but more often at fairs or medieval festivals. There is a very good channel that describes all the regional dishes you can eat in Germany. It's called "Cooking the World." There you can really learn something about German cuisine. And all in English. Keep in mind that the cuisine in Germany varies greatly from north to south. And Germans love fresh produce and the food is therefore very seasonal.

Putting flour in potatoe pancakes is a crime. You either wring out the water with a kitchen towel or you add something like oat flakes. A Schnitzel is not supposed to be dry. You can already see that the Schnitzel he has isn't very tasty.

Instead of pork you can choose a Puten- or Hähnchenschnitzel as well (turky or chicken). The mushroomsauce is amazing as well.

Käsespätzle originate from the Alemannic-Swabian region in the Southwest of Germany (as well as Switzerland and eastern Austria). Spätzle are not "Pasta", but egg-based noodles (the dough contains not more than half an egg shell of water for every egg). Original Käsespätzle are made with grated mountain and Swiss cheese, not with any kind of cheesy sauce, and they have to be freshly made. Mac and Cheese on the other hand is made from mostly factory-produced maccaroni pasta. Pork knuckle is a typical food at festivities and some Bavarian beer gardens, but not very typical outside of those occasions. Puffer is grated potato mixed with some onion and eggs. A similar dish are Swiss Rösti, but they are made without eggs and typically somewhat thicker. There are breadcrumbed and "naked" Schnitzel. Traditionally breadcrumbed schnitzel would be served without sauce (but with a slice or two of lemon), only naked schnitzel should come with sauce - but nowadays many places serving schnitzel have only breadcrumbed ones (and often not even made fresh, but prefabricated) - it has become more of a fast food thing.

the Spätzle taste like wet flour I can think of 20 better ways to eat good cheese and the restaurants don't always serve good cheese, so to me it was: wet flour with bad cheese in Swabia, so far.

6:25 *Listen* to the crunch _sound!_ This is a _Brötchen,_ the original *Bun of "Hamburger".* Imagine 1 Hamburger, filling your hunger while bite for bite you get this crunch. Btw, fresh *Bread* (1-3 days old) does have the same crunch & smt thicker ones as well! Only real fresh bread, bc out of the Air, which is 70% water, the crunch goes off but indicates to you as costumer how fresh a bread is ;)

Kässpatzen are not noodles, it is a egg-based dough separated through a Käsehobel. They are boiled in water and rise to the top when they are done. You can then fry them with some lard to make them crispy.

What I don't like about this video is that they only try German food in central and southern Germany. Especially here in northern Germany, we also have our own regional dishes. Not only kale with Pinkel or Kasseler roast, but also Labskaus (made from meat and other ingredients: The traditional sailor's dish Labskaus - especially popular in northern Germany - is full of good and useful things: first and foremost the omega-3 fatty acids in matjes or Bismarck herring for a powerful brain. There is also plenty of protein from meat, fish, potatoes and eggs). Or all kinds of fish sandwiches, such as Bismarck herring, or salmon sandwiches, even fish cakes or fish sausages. But also crab salad.

A schnitzel is usually not deep fried, but fried in a pan. There is egg and flour in the breading, where it is dipped alternately. Of course you can vary it too. But that applies to the normal schnitzel. Then there is the cordon bleu. I have no idea whether this originally comes from Germany. It's basically the same, just with ham and cheese on the inside.

Sadly most that gets called cheese in the us does not taste like real cheese. At least that is what I heard and the limited american food i tried in the local us barracks. I don't like US "cheese". I love metbrötchen, but got really early indoctrinated into met and blood sausage. My grandpa was a construction worker and my dad for a time construction and gardening stuff too. So its great if you need a lot of energy and simple to eat :). My fav is with a bit regionalbias: Fränkisches Schäufele (It is made from the pig's shoulder meat, which gives the dish its name, "Schäufele", or the pig's scapula.)

The Schnitzel comes from Austria (Wiener Schnitzel), not from Germany. Wiener Schnitzel is a thin breaded veal schnitzel fried in fat. It is one of the most famous specialties of Viennese cuisine. Schnitzels made from other types of meat are also colloquially referred to as such if they are prepared in breading. And to eat a sauce to it is a crime!!!

Flammkuchen is a staple in a lot of German Restaurants. But better don't oder it in a restaurant. It's a dish that's very cheap to make and since it's priced like all the other dishes, the margins are crazy. Better to just buy the ingredients and make it at home. It's much cheaper and it's also very easy to make.

There is a schnitzel war between austria and germany. If you ask an austrian waiter for sauce to your schnitzel, you might get killed. We eat it with a few drips of fresh lemon. maybe a bit of ketchup for the fries. But many european countries have variations of the dish. breaded meat, deep fried, is just an amazing idea. In the end, chicken nuggets are also just a variation of the idea.

You see bees very seldom in Germany. More visible are bumblebees. Most of the time when you eat outside, there are wasps that bother you. But don't try to kill them either. They all have them purpose. You can eat with wasps outdoors in Europe. They might be more aggressive when pushing them. But they don't try to sting you. Push them away, they go away.
@wWvwvV
@wWvwvV 8 месяцев назад
I got two times stung by a wasp in my life in my youth (I got a wasp in my throusers, not knowing what it was). I never got stung by a bee. I remember beekeepers wearing massive protective suits. Nowadays they go in without any protection and grab into the mass of bees like it's some substance.
@Kamil0san

It depends on the place where you live, in the "concrete jungle" of a bigger city you might see more wasps, especially when you have shops with open windows, giving wasps an way to the wares, you will have lot of them on it, as carrion eaters they also like dead bodies and garbage cans, that is why i prefer shops that do not let wasps on their wares. Here on the edge of the black forest, especially with a lot of flowery green around the house and a higher density of beekeepers you will see more bees especially those commonly known honey bees then wasps.
@Gokudo87

I love bumblebees, because they are the chillest of the bunch. I've never heard anybody gut stung by a bumblebee and I am not even sure, if they are even able to sting. Bees are ok, they might annoy you a bit, but go away for a while. Wasps are assholes. They just won't go away and keep pestering you. I also have been stung only about 3 or 4 times in my life, but it always were wasps. Unfortunately in my region there are very few bumblebees and bees, but whole armadas of wasps.

The raw meat bun is called "Mettbrötchen" and especially among people doing physical labour, it's very common to have a breakfast with "Mettbrötchen" on special occasions. For example if a new colleague was hired or if somebody retires or switches the workplace they often bring "Mett" and "Brötchen" to work, to have a breakfast with colleagues. It's not a breakfast for every day, because it's not the healthiest food. But every now and then it's an awesome breakfast.

As a Bavarian I basically dislike most northern foods. I hate fish it's the one meat that is readily available anywhere and I never get it. I take a Currywurst over any kind of fish. It's about what you're used to and also what you tested. Obviously in the North people can't cook Bavarian food like we do so no wonder Northerners dislike our dishes if they eat it in the North. Maybe same thing why I don't like sea food - people here don't know how to cook it in a way that makes it taste good.
