The good thing about Ronnie Barker and David Jason is that they can both take on different characters and make it their own.. Open all hours always made me laugh...Fun fact: Ronnie Barker had been working with David Jason on Porridge and he asked if he would like to be in a new series he was involved in. Ronnie Barker sent David Jason the script for Open All Hours, David Jason said he loved it. He said if he wanted to be in it and play Granville, then the part was his. Ever since then Ronnie Barker had become a great Mentor and teacher to David Jason...David Jason said he learned a lot from him, and over the years, always referred to Ronnie Barker as "The Guv'nor" ...two of our great Comedy Heroes.

This was the episode were Arkwright nearly did lose his fingers in the till. lol Ronnie B actually got his fingertips clipped by the till here, I seen it in a documentary. This is one of my fave episodes, It has so many funny moments. Granville dancing to Singin' In The Rain is probably the highlight, but a great episode throughout. :)

Hmm. I've just watched it and paused the video. He doesn't seem to have his hand anywhere near when it closes. It must have been the plastic tray he caught his hand on, but that wasn't the prop guy's fault.

@@projectdalekmark It's still possible that the back of the front portion of the till did catch his hand before it met the back and fully closed. I've played the video at it's slowest speed, and I can't see if that happens or not. The problem is, it closes so quickly, it's very difficult to see that. Then it's also a possibility that the incident happened during the filming, but isn't the actual take shown in the episode. In any case, the look on Ronnie's face at the exact moment the till closes, is priceless.

I remember walking into one of those concrete lamp posts once. It didn't half hurt! 🙄 Speaking of which, this is the episode where the till did actually catch Arkwright's fingers!

granville dancing in the rain then bumping into the pole was funny. Nurse chinning arkright about his suit was funny, lol free bag with the rice, lol that must hurt, arkright getting his knob stuck in the zip lol

Granville did get to be a vampire in the 80's, Well David Jason was the voice of Count Duckula.

Duckula is an absolute classic. I loved it whilst growing up, but I think I prefer it even more now as an adult.

As these sorts of videos go, ie. Americans react to..., it is one of the best. You watch the whole episodes and not just clips that are taken out of context, which means they are impossible to understand. Secondly on the odd occasion that you do pause the video, it is only for a few seconds at most, so the continuity is not lost, unlike other "reactors". Lastly you give a good five minutes of critique referring back to what we have just watched. Excellent stuff - very well done.

Loving watching these early episodes over again, but I have to say that the way you react to them makes a huge difference. I can see that you 'get' the humour and understand the characters very well. If I can make a suggestion for future reactions once you finish Open All Hours, I would love to see what you think about doing a reaction to Vicar Of Dibley. I am sure you would enjoy the humour from that series too, if you do, you will need to start from Srs 1 Ep 1 to appreciate the full story. Keep up the good work Kid

I always wondered why Granville said if he was Hungarian he could be related to Count Dracula, when Dracula wasn't Hungarian. He was from Romania, not Hungary. lol

It has been said a few times already re till catching Ronnie B fingers as it wasn't meant to of happened, just look ar David's face ( hes not sure if they're going cut or carry on for split second) The gentleman stood behind the wall of the till pulled on cord attached to the till draw a couple of seconds too soon catching the fingers, this is covered in a documentary or interviews.

Recently,a new series 'Still Open All Hours' was made,with Granville taking over the shop after Arkwright's death,but the chemistry and humoUr sadly does not compare to and between Ronnie Barker and Sir David Jason

I saw the episodes of benidorm which had boycie in them,there quite good but its not my kind of show I will check out the four hale and pace episodes next I think they play undercover police men.
