He's an English artist and he's chatting about England. Any Scottish artist would soon point out that they are singing about Scotland so please don't try and erase England.
Ghosttown by the specials, but I take nothing away from plan B because this song was incredible, a real zeitgeist track that took the establishment on headfirst. Remember it being condemned in certain quarters, yeah because it touched the nerve.
The guy who threw the jab is John Prescott, who was acting Deputy Prime Minister at the time. He was walking down the street and someone hit him with an egg, so he punched who he thought it was. The punch did more damage to his career, compared to the fella he hit! Plan B is unique. I’ll Manors is a song from the album he produced full of songs to go with the film he directed. Also Defamation of Strickland Banks Album is great!
In 2011 a young man (Mark Dugan) was killed by police whilst they tried to arrest him. This led to crowds coming to help the boy and his friends and more police coming to fight them off and "control" the situation sparking a full-on riot. The riot led to a UK-wide crime spree where many people looted major shops and burned down buildings and cars. This song and music video using footage from the nearly week-long riot and is somewhat ironic as I believe he was working on the song before the riot happened so it became the perfect imagery to rail against police and UK politics. The event is highly politicised in the UK as you could imagine
Mark duggan wasnt a boy. He was 29 years old and he was in possession of a handgun on the day he was shot. He was literally referred to as an elder of the community in newspapers reporting it. You make it sound like he was some little kid. He was a high ranking gang member. Yes his death caused aprotest outside tottenham police station, which quickly escalated into nationwide riots and looting which is where the much of the footage comes from
This song came from an album that he wrote along with a film also called ill manors, one of my favourite films! You want to know the real London give that a watch
riots started around London due to the police killing of Mark Duggan. this is the the title of Plan Bs film, Ill Manors, a film about crime in inner london.
this song was a comment on the london riots. a black kid called mark duggan was shot by police and it sparked riots up and down the country for 3 days.
He was totally innocent. The police shot him in the back. They said he was a “terrorist”. I don’t think anyone paid any justice for this crime. That’s why there was riots up & down the country. That’s what I was told anyway. Missed it all, I was on holiday at the time. I heard about it when I got back to England.
It's from a movie call Ill manors, but this video is a mix of real footage eg the punch was when politician Gordon Brown got egged. The fires are when there was the riots a couple of years back.
He talks about it in the song. The London riots happened because the city spent billions on a bid to get the Olympics and build Olympic Village while the city was dealing with record highs in poverty and unemployment
Ok urban safari is a flippant term u used to describe an adventure contained within a city. Chav is an insult usually thrown at working class kids seen to be young poor violent and rash .Council house is social housing basically the UK version of the projects this is 2011 riots after a police shooting the politician is John Prescott he was deputy pm under Blair
Also couple of other details worth noting. The title and chorus contains a double meaning. 1) Ill manor as in the working class youth/Plan B is badly behaved. "my manners ill" 2) Manor is also old east london/cockney slang for you neighbourhood/area So "my manors ill" acts as a play on words to suggest that not only Is Plan B badly behaved. But his area is dangerous.
Ur view of the UK being all rainbows and candyfloss is how ever country around around the world portrait themselves, every town in the UK has a deprived area
Don't know why this guy stopped making films and music he was awesome 👏 Inner cities (council estates) were all like this but things have improved in a lot of areas 🤘 I went to Plan b's "ill manors" tour best concert I ever attended 🙌
Things haven't improved, they've just been moved to suburban areas outside of the major cities through gentrification and a manufactured cost of living crisis
I remember visiting Philly 30 years ago, all was great until my friend and I misunderstood the way US addresses are different to UK addresses, and walked into a hood and were grateful to come out in one piece. A different world. No different, really. Nobody will take you to go see a council estate. Props for covering this track, it reflects the mood right now let alone 3 years ago.
Grats on 100k man! Haha I haven’t heard this in tiiime 😂 if you like this Plan B plays a very good part in the film ‘Harry Brown’ with Michael Caine that depicts the other side of the UK. He can make songs like this as well as bangers like ‘she said’ 😁
The man with the "clean jab" was like our deputy PM or something at the time. Like your presidents right hand wo/man. The media slated him for it, bu most of the public loved it. Guy in the crowd threw an egg at him, and quick sharp he just clips his jaw on point.
Ben 'Plan B' Drew is a rapper, singer, musician, actor, and filmmaker. Incredibly talented! This video shows footage from past scenes of unrest in this country and scenes from his very good feature film Ill Manors. Manor is used as a name for a neighbourhood or a council estate (projects to you). So you can understand the anger. He has different tracks with different styles. Please listen to his award winning album 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks'. It tells a complete story and showcases his array of skills. On holiday, unless you're going to stay with friends or family that live in poor neighbourhoods, you're not going to see poor living. It's in every city in the UK.
There was protests that quickly became looting and rioting around 10 years back following police violence. Several areas of London where pretty much as you saw on this vid on and off for a few weeks. London is basically very cool and completely fucked up at the same time, depending on who you are and specific when and where you are. "Nice" areas are often only a few yards from poverty and inequality, with all the madness that goes with that Not too many guns as UK is pretty locked down on that but they do get smuggled in and used. Too many stabbings though, it's an ugly and tragedy epidemic...
Way late, but ultimately the footage is from the London rights. The riots started due to the "in"justice of an offender being killed by the cops, but the rest of the city and up and down the country, chavs," and other "Chancers" took the opportunity to riot, loot, and cause general chaos. Chances were just robbing every store they could and anyone they could and feigning outrage at the system. Regarding London, I'm not sure where you visit that is clean other than very rich areas, but like all major cities, for the most part, there are safe places and places you do not want to find yourself in. I grew up on a council estate, and while I never went down the same path, many of my friends ended up in gangs and eventually prison. Council estates are just large areas of blocks of flats/apartments that are usually rundown and where mostly the working class live. Most, but obviously not all, people on a council estate are living off the benefits of the council, aka local government.
2:24 that guy was literally what you in the US call ‘Vice President’ punching that rich guy hitting him with an egg vacua’s he supported the bottom (translated: Working Class/Blue Colar) 2:24
We do have Ghetto's in london, some area's like Brixton is dangerous, my cousins area is dangerous , Houlsden and some places in Hackney. Some places out of london is dangerous as well .
This song is part of album he sound tracked for his movie which is called ILL Marnors It’s a good film worth the watch hard to find now though for some reason
this from londdon riots 2011 i remember when that happened still live there now was crazy lol edit: lmaoo yeah if you go to the outskirts of london greater london n that you'll see the gritty london
We had a riot back in 2011 and it broke UK by storm and all the footage is based on true event about postcodes wars from different areas and shows what the government does not do for the UK. Im born a breed from the UK London so trust me when it’s pretty and getting worse as time goes on. 💯
This whole album was the narration to the Film Ill Manors. The riots are the youth of our country being fed up of being accused of causing the problems in economy. We also foot the bill for way too much. Will likely never own homes. Money distributed between the 1% whilst the rest scrimp and scrape.
That fact that you haven't seen any of this over here is kinda the point of the video, all the public spaces and inner areas are kept clean and nice for the tourists... And the other areas are either forgotten or brushed under the carpet, I used to live a city called bath, beautiful architecture, bathstone (type of local golden stone) buildings and Victorian era imperial esthetic in the centre... Walk 20 mins in any direction and you hit the bits the tourists don't see that what the local council wishes wasn't there, tower blocks and run down council estates, borderline poverty. And yes that was a real politician getting hit and pinching that dude.
This man right here Ben Drew aka Plan B is so so talented this Ill Manors track right here is the first song on the self titled album and soundtrack to the movie he also directed the man did act to along side Micheal Caine and Ray Winstone in the films Harry Brown & The Sweeney . But i truely advise u to listen to his other albums Who Needs Actions When You Got Words and The Defamation of Strickland Banks which will show u how diverse and creative this man really is trust me 👌 .. Bless up .✌📿💯
3:41 this is both part of a Lager Movie (That Plan B wrote and directed) and video from the London Riots. If you have known about the London Riots search for them right now and tell us what you think 3:41
You need to watch the film the track is off . Its call ill manors it gives you a good look into life in Shepherd's Bush London . All the characters and story are based on people Ben knew or heard of in that area .
Footage is from the London riots that were sparked over the police shooting and killing mark duggan. Riots broke out over the course of 5 days across England. thousands of people rioted, looted and generally smashed the city up and lit fires. Think it was 2011
You've been to the UK? It's the same as every country. Get a train into any city in any country and it'd be the same. Outskirts, shitty. Move in a bit and it's nice. Get to the centre and it's more of a melting pot but you'll only really go to the nice bits. I went on a bike ride a few years ago on the canal and hit Kings Norton where you leave the canal, go through an estate before getting back on the canal. The "tour guide" was a guy I asked for directions. He was partially disabled on an electric bike and pointed out the local spots where "some kid got stabbed over a £20 bag of weed". I live a 10 minute drive from KN and it's a really nice area. I'm pretty sure NY or wherever in the US is the same
This is a commentary on the riots of 2011 but also a response to economic austerity. Working class people were demonised (and still are), in the media and by those in power, and scapegoated so that we paid for the banking crash in 2008 by cuts to public spending and services.
There is massive bad places in the UK this made with a movie Ill Manners watch it it will educate you. I'm from Austalia and had no idea either. A brilliant movie he wrote and directed.
You think the projects in America are bad, should try the inner-city Council estate life in the UK. This video was like a Wednesday afternoons fun for us growing up.
On many levels the song is genius, but you'd need to be familiar with UK current affairs and current soci-economic problems. Song is from a while back, but still relevant... ill manors = 'ill mannered' same as bad behaviour or 'poorly behaved'. In the UK there are many stuck in a poverty stricken 'poorer' underclass acting out with crime and violence; hence the play on 'poor behaviour' or ill manners. They often live in large blocks of flats, 'council estates'. These places can be rife with crime, they have an 'illness'. In slang we call these estates our 'manors'. Traditionally a Manor is the country estate of the upper classes. Council estates, are the 'manors' run by the 'underclasses' or CHAVS (council housed and violent). Full circle, 'ill manors' is describing a broken system. Good people on bad estates becoming bad as a product of the illness in their environment. A system perpetuated by upperclasses - which in the UK are often PMs and Government members. The line that really lands for me is: 'what needs fixing is the system, not shop windows down in Brixton. Riots on your television. You can't put us all in prison.' I won't go into the London riots, but basically the reaction by Government was to rally people against those who were involved. Fix the windows that were broken. But neglect to fix the system. A decade later this song's message still hits hard.
Dude, you have to remember that there only 22 countries in the world we haven’t invaded in one way shape or form. We maybe polite but we’re a warrior nation. At one point 25% of the world was governed by the British
The footage is from the famous London riots back in 2011. The riots were sparked due to a young black man being killed by the police - much like the Watts riots back in LA. They lasted around and spread to most of the UK, but London got it the worst. There is lots of footage on RU-vid if you wanted to go down a rabbit hole. The UK has some really bad places. Every major city like London, Manchester and B-Ham has areas which are poverty and crime stricken. A lot of people think the UK is all tea and biscuits, but we have some real problems and social issues here.
Awesome content as always. I would love to see a reaction of CS - Behind barz. He is one raw and violent guy, but his deliveries are hard. Respect from Norway!!
Really enjoying your reactions mate and appreciate the commentary which is better than most reaction channels. Subbed. PS would like to see you react to Plan B - sick 2 def
You were talking about songs that tell you about a place, you should check out "Animal Kingdom by Trem". Its about Melbourne, Australia. Has voice recordings of 6pm news casts as an intro. As the lyric goes "they aint show you this side of the city on the postcards"
Bro when I've travelled to Boston, Philly, NY to see family I've been to some rough places, but it doesn't feel like the parts of the UK I grew up in. The only place I've been that is on a par is Baltimore seeing my cousins.
