The humility in that last answer, that Canada is great but not perfect, is, in itself, a very stereotypical Canadian answer! ❤ Gotta love Ryan Reynolds!

William Shatner, Captain Kirk, said he had to practice speaking American. I guess sounding Canadian wouldn't be right in an American show. But, I've travelled most US states and the accents are all different. There is no one USA (or Canadian) accent. It's just stupidity.

Ryan is definitely one of those Canadian celebrities who really loves Canada and is invested in it's continued success. He is a very active philanthropist and donates a lot of money to a wide variety of charities and causes across the country, everything from supporting Indigenous organizations, to homeless shelters, to Toronto's SickKids hospital. It is actually super heartwarming to see how active he stays in Canadian issues even if he lives abroad. My favourite story about this is actually during the pandemic. One of my old friends from high school works in communications for a public health unit for a large Canadian city. They were doing incredible public health social media work(hilarious, smart, a ton of content), Ryan is really active on social media and he actually reached out to say how much he was enjoying their coverage. I could not believe he was fallowing the public health communications/social media of a local public health unit that actively. Anyway, he ended up doing a video for them as part of their campaign. As to the rest of the video, Nova Scotia is gorgeous! When my friends from overseas visit me I'm always recommending BC or NS even though i live in Toronto. And Tyler, you should definitely do a video on Rick Hansen- he is super inspiring and make sure you look up his connection to Terry Fox!

I agree with Ryan on that last one. Canada most certainly isn’t perfect. We have our flaws just like every other country but I genuinely believe Canada is the greatest country in the world. If you look at the lists of top countries for education, healthcare, jobs, housing and so on Canada is nearing the top of most of those lists. I think more frequently than any other country. That being said just like Ryan said, it’s no utopia. We still have political issues and healthcare issues and housing issues and employment issues. Canada also has a major drug problem and a really dark history among other things. We’re far from perfect but I couldn’t be more proud to be Canadian despite our flaws
@sklaWlivE
@sklaWlivE Месяц назад
One of the key differences, at least from my experience, is that Canadian education is less nationalistic over all in its bent. There’s a lot less whitewashing or sanitizing of history (though, is still some, to be sure). Example: In Grade 6 social studies/history, my class tackled WW1 and WW2, and the concept of Genocide (Armenian Genocide, Holocaust, Pograms in Russia and Germany, Rwandan Genocide, etc)…when we had finished up that heavy subject matter, my teacher threw everyone in class a curve ball (well, everyone except those of us who were native or had family/close friends amongst the First Nations)… ”You may think acts like this only happen over seas, or in our distant past during the Colonial era…but what if I told you that Canada only finally stopped it’s own genocidal program against the Natives in the 90s?” …the class was then taught about the Residential Schools, the October Crisis, and tackled the issues facing Reservations like access to key resources like clean water, reliable power, and accessible emergency healthcare and then also the effects of Generational Trauma, that gets passed down systemically…and also briefly touched on how the systems we have in place, fail to protect and instead even continue to victimize and harm these communities. We didn’t get too heavy into that last part, as the year was winding down and we still had to cover Canada’s eventual counter answer to the Nazis: the rise and embrace of Multiculturalism…instead, that got picked up later in Highschool when I was taking the compulsory Civics/Cultural Studies course. (Though I did have to groan outloud in that one when several other kids reacted in genuine shock and suprise to learn that our form of government is technically a MONARCHY…what did you think all those years of Victoria Day celebrations were for, or why the Queen keeps visiting us!)

I grew up in both temperate rainforests here in BC. The great bear rainforest is such an amazing biome and so rich in history and indigenous cultures. Spirit Bears, also known as kermode bears, have a specific gene mutation that make them white (including their claws). They arent albino, or polar bears, and only exist in the region of Canada. There are movies on both the rainforest and the Sea wolves in that area. But dont be fooled, not all wolves in the area are smaller sea wolves. One night my grandpa thought he was driving up on an elk along the side of the road....nope. It was a wolf.

As a Nova Scotian...we are very small comparatively, we're talking you can go from one end of our province to the other in just over a day including stopping to eat, with more Rural Towns then actual Cities. But if you were looking for popular spots we have Louisburg up in Cape Breton (A recreation of a town/fortress originally built by french settlers) where the staff are dressed as people from the period, Sherbrooke Village in..well...Sherbrooke, Lunenburg home of the Bluenose (a famous ship) The Citadel which is similar to Louisburg but smaller in Halifax (along with several other smaller fortifications in Point Pleasant Park), The Boardwalk that's also in Halifax and Peggy's Cove in St.Margarets Bay which is kind of hard to explain outside of massive rocks everyone climbs on! Also have some really interesting museums in the form of Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, the Immigration Museum at Pier 21 and the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site We have some awesome places to go hiking, for scenic drives there's the Cabot trail or pretty much anywhere in the Highlands and there's the Fall Colours where you basically go to a high spot anywhere in the Province and stand in awe at the palette mother nature paints in autumn though there are suggested routes. Plus there's the Valley which is just a gorgeous drive at anytime save winter along with our major farming hub. Also have some good Whale watching in the summer, Jost winery and Glenora Inn & Distillery if you're into alcohol (with no shortage of bars/pubs or craft bars), several places famous for their seafood (looking at you Digby), some awesome Harvest your own Blueberry or Apple farms and countless other little local gems. Honestly have only hit the big stuff that most people would think of, though if you're also from down home and I forgot anything please add your piece and scold me mightily!! It's also pretty expensive considering how poor most of the people are, nothing like Ontario or BC but for the locals we feel it pretty hard. So in summary while I wouldn't say Nova Scotia is a hub of excitement it's beautiful, quiet for the most part, and pretty laid back on the whole!

The pronunciation of "About" as "Aboot" is a legacy of the Scottish influence - on the East Coast Atlantic Provinces in particular. It is less apparent as you approach Canada's West Coast. The CBC National News anchor interviewing RR (Ian Hanomansing) started his TV career in New Brunswick. RR typifies the self-effacing character of Canadians. We Canadians may have the reputation of being the politest, BUT even the Nazi SS truly feared the ruthlessness on Canadians in time of war. Check out the success of Canadians at "Vimy Ridge" in WWI, where years of British and French soldiers had previously failed to take this important high ground. I am a Canadian by choice, and I truly value its successes and "Greatness" - while also observing its many imperfections.

Yes Ryan is from Vancouver, comes home often & films most of his movies here (Deadpool & The Adam Project recently). Like all celebrities, especially locals, he is left alone & can have a normal life here. This is true of both Vancouver & Toronto where a lot of filming is done. We are polite and don’t bother the actors, they deserve to have a life. He doesn’t have “give away Canadian signs” because no born in Canada, educated and manned person from medium & big cities does. We are all like Ryan and you never know when we might be among you (unless excessive politeness is required). That is why while travelling in Europe & other destinations where being mistaken for an American might be problematic, we make sure those maple leaves & Roots clothing is prominently displayed. A Roots Canada backpack is a great all in one solution and Canadian flag luggage tags seem to protect our luggage from rough handling or disappearing.

For your comment around 7:50 about the rainforest and where they can exist...well, as per the name, they need "rain". The west coast of BC, which is west of the Coastal Mountain Range, gets a TON of rain; clouds pick up the moisture from the ocean, come inland, crash into the mountains and start dumping the moisture to lose the weight so they can get over the mountains. That much rain in that area actually makes a sizeable portion of BC's west coast (often nicknamed the "wet" coast for this reason; Raincouver and Lotus Land are other popular ones) technically classified as rainforest; little ol BC contains about 25% of the WORLD's temperate rainforest. But with water comes life. I live close to Vancouver, and on my drive to and from work I can see big, healthy deer on the side of the highway on a near monthly basis during the warmer months, and there's a section of road between farmland where in certain months you could drive one stretch of it and see over 50 big healthy bald eagles in the trees in the span of 10 seconds (And don't get me started on the raccoons...they are rampant). If I get to see stuff like that on a regular basis, It can rain all it pleases over here :)

He spends a lot of time in Vancouver because they filmed the deadpool movies there. Vancouver Whitecaps- soccer. Vancouver Lions (mountain lions) football, Vancouver Canucks Hockey. The coast of BC is almost all rainforest, the same with Washington state just below it. They filmed most of Twilight, 10 things I hate about you, Blade 2 & 3, tv shows Supernatural, The Flash, Arrow, Smallville, so many more. Some refer to Vancouver as ‘Hollywood North’ cheaper to film here than in the US. Ryan’s self depreciating humour & sarcasm is very much a common humour in Canada. Jim Carrey, Ryan Reynolds, Rick Moranis, John Candy, Mike Myers… we have a LOT of comedians. BC has black bears, brown bears & Grizzlies. Spirit bears are brown bears born with a melanin deficiency. They aren’t albino, they tend to be a creamy off white colour & considered extremely special- particularly to the Native Americans who live in BC which is why they are called ‘spirit bears’.

We occasionally would get a warning about bears wandering around the office building that I worked in (North Vancouver). Driving into work I had to slow down to allow a bear to cross road. With the funding reduced drastically with Conservation, the bears roam more prolifically and freely in the fall and spring when they come out of hibernation. Bears are around all year, but those seasons much more. .... They used to trap and relocate, but government cut all that funding. Now we are told to put up with it, that the bears were here first. A bear family consistenly crossed our backyard (we live in a residential area) for 15 years, as mom raised her two or three cubs, the next couple years would bring the female cub all grown birthing her own cubs.... bear scat down residential streets is common right now. Soon, they will fill up and go hibernate. Most of them. Elk, cougars, bear, a few wolf sitings, lots of coyote.... just to name a few.
