I always remember Stephen Fry pointing out the strange British habit of talking about hot weather in summer in Fahrenheit and cold weather in winter in centigrade. So then it's "My God it must be in the nineties today" or "Oh it's so cold it must be minus five" Just another quirky British way of looking at things😀

I agree with Squirrel tho, I always thought it made zero sense to make it snow at the end. Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill totally missed a trick here, both of them would be well accustomed to the fact that its constantly raining in Scotland, it's so confusing why they chose not use that stereotype to their advantage. It just makes so much sense and would have came off as a much more believable and better punchline.

They do use Celsius over in Scotland, in the Cauld episode the guy on tv said -12 Celsius but then in a couple of other episodes they used Fahrenheit.

You need to watch that again the guy on the TV says its the coldest front since 1972 -12 in most parts of Scotland he doesn't say Celsius or Fahrenheit ....

This is 20 years old, and they're supposed to be 75. Temperature was one of the hold overs. Hasn't lasted as long as pints, for some things, feet and inches for height, or miles in general. Yes we do use Celsius now for everything in daily life. I think TV weather had changed over by the time this was filmed though.

The most common measurement of temperature in Scotland & the U.K. is celsius but on an occasion the weather forecaster will also drop in the temperature in fahrenheit . I’m 54 and our generation grew up with fahrenheit before they started to change it to celsius to match up with the rest of the EU but like most my age we can still use both scales of measurement but the U.K. still uses a lot of the old imperial system like MPH , MPG(miles per gallon) even though our petrol stations are per litre , feet & inches , stones & pounds etc . Even in my work in Rolls Royce we build aero engines and we still use the imperial system of measurement like a thou(thousand of an inch) 👍🏻

The change of weather isn't even unrealistic in Scotland, could be raining one minute then hot and sunny the next, then out of nowhere snow

Two factors at play with the temperature here. Firsty, our tendancy to express hot weather in Farenheit. Secondly, up until about the mid seventies, we more commonly used Farenheit before switching to using Centigrade, but older people are more used to using Farenheit.

It is usually °Celsius in Scotland but some of us know both temperature forms. I expect it could be Greg Hempil Canadian so they used his way.

That's strange because I have been in Scotland for 47 years and have heard both Celsius and Fahrenheit used both on the TV and by the general public.

Even though the UK went metric upon joining the EEC, we've never gone fully over. We still measure distance in Miles and speed in Miles per Hour and drink Beer in Pints. Old people like pensioners Jack and Victor still think wholly in Fahrenheit

It's quite simple to know when to use metric and imperial in the UK: •°Celsius for low temperatures and °Farenheit for high temperatures. •Litres for paint and petrol, pints for milk and beer. • Grams and kilograms for objects, pounds and stones for people. • Metres for the height of mountains, feet for the height of structures. • Kilometres for the distance you ran and miles for the distance you drove. Except when we decide to make an exception

It depends what age you are whether you use fahrenheit or celcius, us over our 70's tend to use fahrenheit as that's what we grew up with, I do not have a clue what celsius means.

Scotland is celsius. Don't know why they are using fahrenheit here other than to try and use large numbers so it sounds hotter.

I can remember we got snow in the middle of May one year over the weekend. It was gone by the Monday ~ lovely sunshine and around 15 degC . Yes we do use Celcius in Scotland and have done for umm.. 50+ years. I think quite a few North Americanisms come from Greg's writing eg gurney for trolley etc. However it all adds to the fun. Thanks again for another great video. Always worth the wait 😊

The snow thing was a bit odd even with UK’s changeable weather. Heatwaves in the UK are often broken by thunderstorms and it would have made more sense for them to have ended the episode that way. Glad Isa’s husband isn’t coming back but sad for her when she went out on the pull. Great fun as always though.

Summer hail is a very much thing here in the UK, when hot damp air rises so far that it freezes. Though the hail stones are usually very small by the time they reach the ground.

When you've finished watching all of this show, watch 'One Foot In The Grave' which is another show about a man who always complains about his lot in life, as his poor wife suffers. It is full of calamity and the funniest situations you will ever see, and in fact I can guarantee that you will piss your pants! Still Game is like watching a funeral compared to One Foot In The Grave. There are many episodes and series and also longer 'Specials' of it!
