In the UK most cows are grass fed, in the US they’re mostly grain fed that makes a massive difference to the quality of the milk

Also Keloggs cornflakes as of today in tesco £2.19 for 450g but if you buy Tesco cornflakes £0.79 for 500g. A lot of generic food is much cheaper & usually tastes just as good

British food gets a really bad rap, but we are using recipes passed down from our great, great grandparents. Very little went to waste then, and we tend to limit wasting food now. If your kids aren't too fussy, you'd all probably like Bubble and Squeak. Traditionally made from the leftover veg from a Sunday roast. I like to do it with Sausages and onion gravy, or you could use it as a topping for Cottage Pie.

All U.K. milk used to come in 1 pint bottles. People can visualise the bottle volume, but not the Litres volume.

Something that also needs to be considered is the average rate of pay tho. If the average American is getting payed 2-3x more than folk in the UK, then the prices might balance out. And it might even work out that they pay less % of their wages out on groceries than what we do.

One thing to take into account is the size of the US compared to the UK. A lot of our shops source their goods locally so the transport costs are much lower. It's not cheap to run an 18 wheeler with a 13 litre diesel engine. I know, I did it for 15 years. Plus, as an person who came from an island I'm sure you can understand that if you drive for more than a few hours in one direction you end up in the sea.

uk a lot our trucks have bigger than 13 liter engines and few brands still have a v8 diesel. tucks in Europe tend to have more grunt to more torque so they not cheap and our fuel cost crazy can be £1.50-£1.80 a liter for diesel that ca be over £1300-1400 for a tank diesel a 1000 liter tank and standard around 700-800 liter tanks still close to if not more that £1000 that is 1,286.55usd for £1000 . scary fuel costs in uk when you still have cheap fuel as low as $3 a gallon

the last few years ive started to grow a lot more food, this year greenhouse full peppers and some chili plants around 14-15 types , lots salad leaf stuff, 8 tomato plants, carrots already put the 3rd batch in for this year they be harvested same as 2nd batch when the cold weather starts, also parsnips to but 2nd batch. even even added myself on the list for an allotment a plot land to grow food and my area you pay local government £30 a year for so it not a lot money as i ran out space at home but the one i want is 100 meters from my house so as log as it takes i want a plot on that allotment and as bad health it help keep me more healthy and plans to make things a little more easy like a good % undercover like greenhouses or pollytunnels as you must keep on top of your plot so not let it get overgrown or messy so that help with that a section for raised beds at a good height nice and deep so i can grow what ever i want in them, and a section for root crops, my granddad worked a plot for decades and i know that allotment and soil is spot on for that so hardest work loosening up soil but the job bending down to sow the seeds and spacing them my back that a challenge but ive come across carrot seeds and parsnip seeds and few other seeds in a paper tape all spaced out correct to make shallow trench lay the tap and cover and that can be anything from 400-540 seeds per a tape roll that is a lot carrots so hardest one will be beds potatoes but i try get a bit help with that, and all the things undercover i can expand my spicy plants, and other veg what require the extra heat. and pest control mostly natural as it is amazing planting certain crops around other crops deter pests and even certain flowers to can help deter pests so i be doing a lot of that so will have lots color and a lot extra crops too what help for pest control, even plants you can grow and before the go to seed dig them in and add nutrients to the soil. yes a little wait till i get one but planning and learning as much as i can about growing food will give me a big head start. when my granddad run his plot i remember hen young the household never ran out so it be good bring food back to house, store it correctly it can last you till the following years harvest, this summer so far ive had at least two peppers a day and loads salad stuff so it already covered the cost to set it up, this year bigger pots was big cost but now i got them they at least last 3 years if not longer and next year just soil as i can save a lot seeds and stock up on soil before season ends it be cheap very cheap compared to just before season starting, ive had loads food already and that just from 1/3 my garden and most that flowers so i cannot wait to get a plot on allotment and lady who runs waiting list we got talking and things in common like we both grow cacti from seed even getting seeds from our own collection, she remembers my granddad and how well he kept his plot, she said she wish she had one available that day so now on list she wants to give me one so just a wait now can be on average 2 years but as people get old and lot old on the plots they may start to give back the plots so fingers crossed it sooner than later, such a great feeling eating food you grown yourself and tastes much better and fresher and you know whats in it and chemicals if any

Our prices have got worse over the last couple of years but nowhere near as bad as you guys. My sister went to Florida (not the cheapest state agreed) but she was so shocked at the price of things. I loved your reaction to this as you are a mum and have to make the money go as far as you can like millions in both our countries. Evan was critasized for some aspects saying you can get cheaper at other stores but he was trying to keep it comparable. He did do two other price comparison videos. One a year later to see how inflation had affected both countries (the Uk was a bit higher in the 1 year difference). The other was he shopped at the same store Aldi in both countries and the UK was still much cheaper. I have put a link below to a lady called Dara who lives 6 months in the UK and 6 months in the US and she did a shop in both countires and its even more acurate. The other good one is a video she doees about health care. Its good becasue she is not comparing the US private care to the NHS but is comparing her experience of private care in both countries. link below too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YUWs4kVo-CE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-siutTIM3x6c.html

Hi Island Girl, I would explain the fact that we buy our milk in pints in the following way. Prior to Supermarkets taking off, the majority of U.K. households got their milk delivered to their doorstep in glass pint bottles. I imagine to coerce customers to buy their shopping in the new stores, it was a better policy to stick to what customers knew. Even though the containers of milk were now multiple pints, it was easier for shoppers to imagine 4 or 2 traditional glass bottles worth of milk in each one.

Hi. surely for the health of a nation, fresh produce should always be cheaper than fast food as it cost a lot in energy prices to actually cook good food. I'm lucky because I love to cook, the easiest way to eat like a king for the price of a BigMac.

You stopped the video as Evan was about to make the point about US sales taxes. In the UK, the price you pay is the price you see (in fact it is illegal to charge more than the price shown on the product even if it was a genuine mistake), whereas in the US, sales tax (where applicable) is added at the checkout after your goods have been checked!

I've just bought two cartons, eight pints of one of our filtered milks for £4 or $5.50 . On a visit to the USA last year l noticed Washington red apples grown in the USA were cheaper here for the same apple grown in the USA. You must spend a small fortune on food with your growing family.

Around £61k vs £41k (Times). But for the bottom 50% of people earners where food is a higher proportion of outgoings, the difference is way less. ' The US is also more unequal in regards to income inequality. In the US, the average person in the top 10% earns 18.5 times more than the average person in the bottom 10%. This ratio is 13.8:1 in the UK. However, this doesn’t tell the whole story. The UK has a more extensive welfare state, especially in regards to healthcare. The NHS covers the majority of healthcare services, meaning that someone in the bottom rung of the economic ladder (with serious health problems) in the UK has far fewer costs than a similarly poor person in the US.' (Quora, 'How does inequality in the UK compare to the US?') For the folk for whom food budgets are significant part of income, the US is far worse than the UK.
