Good list, but missing a lot of legends! Therese Johaug - cross-contry skiing Suzann Pettersen- Golf Viktor Hovland- Golf Casper Ruud- tennis Norway women's national handball team- (always gold and silver medals) Tora Berger- biathlon Tiril eckhoff- biathlon Johannes thingnes bøe - biathlon Johannes klebo- cross-contry skiing Ada hegerberg -soccer Martin Ødegaard- soccer
@@erikstenviken2652 If you're going to be dishonest about the Therese case, you could at least make it less obvious. I'm not going to go into it, but i do at least know the story.
@@thomascaster1826 Yes Yes Yes!!! Totally agree...obviously some people who think they know the whole story as soon as they've heard a bit of one side of the story.
@@mikaelmilo doing drugs on your spare time is not the same as doping in events. Theres no impact for his athletic career on him driving cars while drunk and on coke
Norway have had so many fabulous athletes that not being world number one disqualifies yoy from this list. Sorry, doesnt matter what sport you are number 3 og more , you cannot compare that to i.e. 10 world gold medals in an olympic sport.
karsten warholm deserves his spot, he changed 400m hurdling. Starting in july 2021, he first took down a 29 yr old standing wr, only to obliterate it by over 3/4 of a second one month later
I think it`s worth mentioning that Grethe Waitz won the New York maraton nine times. Mats Zuccarello played for New York Rangers from 2013 to 2019 and was one of their most popularitet players ☺️
Norway has world champions in a shitload of sports. Obviously there is winter sports in everything from Curling to anything with a ski or snowboard etc. But we have world or olympic champions in Rally/Rally cross as you saw, but also other motorsports like everything from Drifting with cars to Offshore boat racing. Then there is Chess, beach volleyball, marathon and all forms of running sports including orientation and speed walking, football (soccer), handball, under water rugby, weight lifting, Taekwon-do, wrestling (the actuel type, not the American show type), bicycling (track and road), poker, Ultimate Firefighting, Chef, Coffee burning, boxing, kickboxing, shooting, archery, figure skating, pole vault, athletics, sailing, gymnastics, rowing, sledding, paddling, casting, x-games, horseback riding, horse dressage, sports dance, disco, modern dance, jazz dance, (in fact, no other nation has more dance medals than Norway), kitesurfing... And many more strange and less strange sports, these are the ones I can mention from the top of my head... Our former prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland once said, "it's typical norwegian to be good".
U should probably watch a video about Northug. He revolutionized the cross-country skiing genre through his finishing ability and in general his ability to win both sprint and long distance racing at the same time.

There is so many left out, but one of my favorite is Thor Hushovd and I don't care much about road bicycle racing either 😅 but he did something amazing at tour de France 2011 that alot of people will never forget! In 2010 he became world champion, so there was big eyes on him to do good in TdF 2011, but he struggled with sickness alot but on stage 13 he did an incredible mindblowing racing and won! On stage 16 he won sprinting against fellow Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen! Old vs "newbie", hehe Another guy I want to mention is Olaf Tufte, just a beast of a machine!
Olaf Tufte - A beast of a man, competes in Rowing Trine Hattestad - Female javelin thrower Andreas Thorkildsen - also a javelin thrower Ailo Gaup Terje Håkonsen Andreas Håtveit Andreas Ygre Wiig Fredric Aasbø Just to mention a few
Honorable mention, especially for the americans. As a swede, I believe this athlete is the one norwegian that most changed the sport he was active in. Jan Stenerud Six time all-star 1 super bowl win Green bay Packers Hall of famer Kansas city chiefs Hall of famer Jersey retired in Chiefs and Montana State Was at Montana State on a ski jumping scholarship. During off-season he was training at the stadium for the football team and was discovered by a coach to be decent at being a kicker. As a junior kicker in college he had a 59 yard field goal. During Super bowl IV he had a 48 yard field goal which was the longest fieldgoal in a superbowl game until Superbowl XXVIII in 1994. He was one of the first to change the kick from a straight line to a more "Soccer style" During his first 3 seasons, he hit 70% of his field goals, compared to 53% average.
Marit Bjørgen is the greatest, most winning Winter Olympic Athlete throughout history, full stop. Regardless of sport, nationality, gender, period of time, any variables whatsoever. She's #1, end of.
WHAT? Solskjær is not just "a football player", he is the guy that won Manchester United their Treble with his right foot, scoring a goal that cemented his place as a Manchester legend for all time. You don't get a banner on Old Trafford for "just being a football player", Solskjær has a banner on OT with the words "20LEGEND" for a reason. (20 was his number, the 0 and LE forms "OLE" which is his first name). Treble = FA cup, Premier league and Champions league. "AND SOLSKJÆR HAS DONE IT!"
You should watch a highlight video of Erling Haaland scoring goals. Also, I would vote for Martin Ødegaard to be on this list. But he is also young, so maybe he belongs on a list of best athletes currently performing. He is also a football player, and captain of the team in first place right now in the English Premier League - Arsenal. Lots of Americans do watch the EPL
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BVdeqO7vV9Q.html Here’s a short “best goals” video. But it’s several months old so that makes it a bit outdated, actually. He’s had some great ones lately
@@bard6184 Nope. Haaland is best striker in the world currently. Odegaard is not even in top 10 midfielders in the world. We saw the difference just yesterday between De Bruyne and Odegaard. One is actually a world class midfielder and the other one is very good midfielder but not on the same level as the best midfielders in the world. Maybe he will get there one day tho.
Erling Haaland! First I heard of him was my Arsenal supporting male coworker coming in one day, visibly spooked and going OMG have you seen this guy, he's a machine!!! That probably says it all, when fans of other clubs are in fear of him. He was actually born in Leeds, think he'd agree to play for England? 😂 (Unlikely but we can dream.)
@@omgwerockhard He just said born in Leeds, he didn't say that he was English. He has a Norwegian father and Norwegian mother, he could've been born on the moon and he'd still be a Norwegian.
Norway is the only team two have won European championship, World championship and Olympic games at the same time, TWICE. Our handball girls are the best.
Geir Gulliksen is a Norwegian Olympic show jumper (some of his kids have done well too) Ann Cathrin Lübbe is a great dressage rider, she has 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze Paralympics medals. Fredric Aasbø is a professional FD driver(formula drift driver) Johanne Killi has 7 x games medals in bigair and slopestyle on skies Marcus Kleveland is a snowboarder with 13 x games medals, Mons Røisland is another snowboarder he has 6 x games medals Kurt Maflin is a norwegian snooker player hes decent , we also have two young pool players Nina Torvund and Emil Andre Gangfløt that seem to be shaping up to be good Thor Hushovd, Alexander Kristoff and Edvald Boasson-Hagen are cyclist Olaf Tufte hes a scull rower he has two Olympic golds in single scull, and a bronze and a silver olympic medal in double scull
you didnt notice that Petter was World Champion in Rallying 2003 also he is a Rallycross world champion. He is the first driver in history to be world champion in two different FIA branches. Fernando Alonso has done the same now but Petter was first :D
Can't believe you just skipped reading a little about Bjørn Dæhlie. From 1992 to 1999, Dæhlie won the Nordic World Cup six times, finishing second in 1994 and 1998.[1] Dæhlie won a total of 29 medals in the Olympics and World Championships between 1991 and 1999, making him the most successful male cross-country skier in history.
This list missing some names. Thor Hushovd, World Champion cyclist in 2010. 2 times winner of the green jersey in TdF. 14 individuals wins in Grand Tours and alot of other wictories. Viktor Hovland(golf) and Casper Ruud(tennis) are also missing, both one of the best today. I guess they are mentioned in some of the comments belov
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - both! He was famous as a Man U player, then came back to manage them. I guess it depends how old you are and if you follow Man Utd or not.
Norway is a winter sport nation A lot of speed skaters and skiers (cross country, ski jump, alpine). (Stein Eriksen, Kjetil Andre Aamodt, Lasse Kjus all in alpine) Sonja Henie, figure skater. 3x olympic champion an 10x world champions in the 1930ies, then become a Hollywood star.
Norway have had many great sailors, including several Olympic gold medal winers. Former king Olav 5 was Olympic champion. The present king Harald 5 is world champion.
I remember there was a comment somewhere like «it’s not surprising Norway is good at skiing, if they were good at beach volleyball, that wpuød be surprising» and the Norwegians were like, «yeah, we have something to tell you», because we have Moi and Sørum, and they have won all the beach volleyball 😂
The rise and fall of Petter Northug was so incredible to witness. He rose as the greatest athlete of all time, sponsorships in the millions, international fame and then .... Money, fame, drugs, party and driving under the influence if i remember correctly? A crash? Arrest, home searched by the police, drugs. Yea it was a rollercoaster
There are still videos on the internet of him at a party, someone opening the bathroom door and he's banging some 18 year old and snorting at the same time. A dumb-ass. Hopefully he learns and makes good, because what he did was to ruins his reputation over night, a stupid, stupid choice. But, person and craft, his athletic achievements are amazing and he was one of the greatest ever, period.
Petter Northug lost his good reputation among the public (he was very revered and beloved by all of Norway) after he was in a car accident, where he drove drunk into a dangerous mountainside. He left his injured passenger and friend at the scene and fled.
If you count chess as a sport, then you also have the reigning world champion in chess for 10 years in a row. He’s decided not to defend his title this year. While his chess competitors are fighting for his title, he’s playing poker in the US. His name is Magnus Carlsen
Erling Haaland was actually measured to be 6'5" after he transferred to Manchester City last summer. The internet must've missed it because his height is still stated as 6'4" almost a year later 😅
I also think the most impressive Norwegian stat is that with a current population of around 5 million. They hold the record for most Winter olympic medals of all time with 405 medals... Coming in 2nd is The USA with 330 (population over 300 million) 3rd: Germany with 286 (over 80 million...) and 4th with less than half the medals of Norway, Russia with a population of over 140 million... that insane !!!
Marit Bjørgen deserves to be called a national treasure. Look her up, she trained and did the work her own way, she was so built and complete that she got a lot of critic and hate from other competitors etc. She is a great person and atlete.
You said you missed golf and tennis. You mentioned that you knew of the golfer, Viktor Hovland. And in tennis, Casper Ruud. Both top class and still in the game. Also footballers worth mentioning: Ada Hegerberg and Martin Ødegaard. Handball: Cecilie Leganger, Nora Mørk, Heidi Løke and basicly the womens team overall. Lots of wc wins, olympics too.
Great video as always Tyler! Would be great if you searched the names on RU-vid and watched highlights-videos of the athletes! It would create a much better understanding of the sport and accomplishments, and is actually incredibly entertaining!
What! You haven’t heard of the American cross country skier Jessica Diggins? She and teammate Kikkan Randall won the United States' first-ever cross-country skiing gold medal at the Winter Olympics in the team sprint in 2018.[2][3] At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Diggins won the silver medal in the 30 kilometer freestyle and the bronze medal in the individual sprint, making her the most decorated American cross-country skier of all time. She also won four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships from 2013 to 2017 and would later become the first American to win a gold medal at the event for an individual contest in 2023. In 2021, Diggins clinched the top spot in the women's overall standings for the 2020-21 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, becoming the first American to do so. Diggins also won a world championship gold medal in 10 km freestyle cross skiing 2023 Planica. She’s so cute💕
That's really hard, but if we're talking currently active ones, I'd say (off the top of my head) Magnus Carlsen, Erling Haaland, Martin Ødegaard, Ada Hegerberg, and Casper Ruud. Yes, we have a lot of brilliant winter olympians, but Carlsen is the best chess player in history - and it is much harder to become among the best in the world in football/tennis than winter sports. Same goes for golf, when I think about it, so it's really hard to exclude Viktor Hovland and Suzann Pettersen. Number 6 and 7 right there.
Stein Eriksen. 4 olympic gold medals alpine skiing. Famous in america. Johann Olav Koss should also be on the list. Speed skating. Several olympic gold medals.
Agree! Figure skating is much bigger than all other wintersports that Norway has been good at. She was on top for so many years. Is she the best Norwegian athlete of all time...? probably not, but she is by far the biggest star we hava had!
What about Dag Otto Lauritzen? He joined the Army Paratroopers after his conspription period in the Army was over because it looked awesome. Then, after his time was up, he joined the police, and the 'Beredskapstroppen'(armed reactionary force) because it was difficult. While in the police he got introduced to cycling... Then he got called in for a big exercise in the army in 1980, and almost lost his foot during a jump from a Twin-Otter. He was told that he would have trouble walking normally, never mind ever cycling again. The next year he became Norwegian champion in cycling. He became the first Norwegian to win a stage on the Tour de France in 1987. In 1992, he was leading in Tour of Norway, but on the last stage he got a flat on his rear tire. The Mechanic(from the follow car) hurried to replace the wheel, but unfortunately broke the gears. Dag Otto grabbed a regular bike someone had left beside the road. He won the race with a 20meter lead on the next cyclist. On the picture of him crossing the line you can see the handlebar bag and the fenders on the bike. These days he run a TV show 'Company Lauritzen' where he takes mostly young adults that never got out of their parents' basement, put them in a military setting(it's even an old military camp) and push them to their limits and show them that they really can do it. He doesn't believe in words like 'impossible'
I'm surprised that Norwegian alpine skiers like Aksel Lund Svinedal, Lasse Kjus, Kjetil Andre Aamodt aren't mentioned. Norway had and have great alpine skiers.
I would personally put five people on the list. 1) Erling Haaland (Man city striker) 2) Magnus Carlsen (do i really mention what he does? Dosen't everyone know who he is? Well, okay then. Chess) 3) Hovland (golf) 4) Casper Ruud (tennis) 5) Ole Einar Bjørndalen We have absolutly one of the best offshoots ski, but after my generation i have to mention Ole Einar Bjønrdalen for that one. But no disrespect for the women in ski, they are absoutly beast.
Casper Ruud is an Norwegian Tennis player. Casper Ruud is a Norwegian tennis player from Snarøya who is ranked number three in the world on the ATP world rankings. Best ranking was No. 2 in the world. Ruud represents Snarøya Tennisklubb, and is the son of former tennis player Christian Ruud
Love it when underdogs win, Jessica Diggins is absolutely not a underdog but I would love to see more skiers from other countrys, not Just the nordic countrys and russia Germany, Zwitzerland, rich ski nations should help poor nations on their feet. We need more competition, not Just the same old. Not Just meet up to collect the medals.
Marit Bjørgen is the single greatest Winter Olympian of all time, she's not "just a known skier", she is the best that has ever walked the planet in terms of medals won. Just FYI, the top 4 best Winter Olympians of all time are all Norwegians. Winter = Norway dominates. We are also starting to crush certain Summer Olympic games, Norway is basically one of the best countries in the world when it comes to sports, both at the top and in the general public. You need to read a little bit more than just the 4-5 lines of generic text google gives you.
There are many more, and also more sports. We have a nice tv-show called the masters of the masters (mesternes mester) where retired athleets compete against each other in different challanges. Very amusing to watch. And quite a few seaspns.
Sondre Guttormsen Is kinda close to my heart he grew up in my town. Oddvar brå is special we have a saying ‘where were you When bra broke his pole’. Geir gulliksen horse back
I guess one can mention Casper Ruud in tennis who was ranked 2nd on the atp last year. Or Viktor Hovland who is way up there in golf also. But these are microsports in Norway with maybe less than 1000 active players in each sport.

Hello! There are many great skiers from the USA, too, Tayler! Micaela Shiffrin, Kikken Randell, Jessi Diggins, Rosie Brennan, just to name a few! You should at least have heard of Shiffrin, since she is the most winning woman in Alpine branches of all time!
Actually, my favorite cross-country skier is American- Jessica Diggins. She became the first American to win individual world championship gold. Also have WC and Olympic gold in Team Sprint,. You should check her out. In alpine skiing, USA has been VERY successful - both men and women, Check out Body Miller, and especially Mikaela Shiffrin. In USA she's a superstar, and i mean A-Celeb superstar. Seen by many as the second-best skier in history, after Ingemar Stenmark
Here's a list of some epic swedish giants if you want to have a look at that as well. In no particular order (and only picking 1 from each sport): Zlatan Ibrihimovic (soccer) Peters Forsberg (Hockey) Jan-Ove Waldner (Table Tennis) Björn Borg (Tennis) Ingemar Stenmark (Downhill skiing) Magdalena Forsberg (Biathlon) Annika Sörenstam (Golf) Magnus Wislander (Handball) Arman Duplantis (Pole Vaulting) Caralina Klüft (Heptathlon) Gunde Svahn (cross-country skiing) Nils van der Poel (ice skating) Sarah Sjöström (swimming) Patrick Sjöberg (high jump)
And that's just for starter...😅 Ice hockey (can't count them all! If mentioning one: Börje Salming THE legend!) soccer (starting with 'Grenoli', Gunnar Gren, Gunnar Nordahl, Nils Liedholm, 1949-53 in Italy), handball, more cross-country skiers like Thomas Wassberg and Charlotte Kalla, show jumping: Peder Fredricson, Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, (we could bring up trotting too), wrestling (classic): Frank Andersson, Mikael Ljungberg, Tomas Johansson, boxing: Ingemar Johansson, arm wrestling: Heidi Andersson (+ Björn Ferry, biathlon), high jump: Kajsa Bergqvist, Stefan Holm, table tennis: Jörgen Persson, Mikael Appelgren And more...

For me one of the all time Norwegian will be Bjørn Dæhlie. Man with 8 Olympics gold, 5 World Cup Overall tittel, and many time World Champions in Ski Cross Country Ski. He was the real man of Norway in the 1990s.

Ole Christian VEIBY rally cross driver.
Erling Haaland is actually expected to do great things in Manchester City and many hope that he will be able to lead them to their first premiere league win in history! They are 2nd at the moment Magnus Carlsen is pretty amazing, grandmaster at the age of 13 and world champion at the age of 22.. yes, chess is also a sport 🙂 I'm not from Norway, living in Norways brother country to the east(Sweden), we also had a couple athletes like Zlatan and IKEA 😂 Not gonna hijack the channel though, keep doin what u do!
Manchester City have won the Premier League 6 times already (2012,2014,2018,2019,2021,2022) So no this wouldn't be their first Premier League win but rather their 7th. They are also competing in the Champions League and are looking to win their first title in that competition so perhaps you got those two competitions mixed with each other.
