With time we use the 24 hour clock for everything except in speech. For example catching a train or bus with friends. Someone will look at the timetable, read 16:25 then say, it's due at 25 past 4.

@@magnus1liljeqvist In the UK when someone says "Half 4", They're actually referring to 4:30am/pm not 3:30am/pm as it would mean in Europe. You're saying half 5 to mean 4:30 - In the UK if you said half 5, it would mean 5:30.

I'm glad you're reacting to Evan, he has a great channel comparing things in the US and UK. You should react to his video British NHS doctor reacts to American Medical Bills. It's a very eye-opening video. He does other comparison videos on more fun topics like US vs UK School, TV, and other random things too.

In Britain we tend to say "eight o'clock" when referring to 20.00 in the afternoon while speaking, but will probably write "20.00" because it's easier and shorter than "eight o'clock" and also won't get confused with 08.00 in the morning. Both are right.

Oh yeah. If you’re going to make long term plans with Danes. It’s import to include week numbers. An example: “I want to invite you to dinner, Friday May 20th.” “Can you come?” “Oh, is that in week 20? “ That’s because we plan work, spare time and vacation by weeks, not days or months. It’s just a thing that’s going to make stuff a lot easier.

The Bodmin manumissions, a manuscript now in the British Library preserves the names and details of slaves freed in Bodmin (the then principal town of Cornwall) during the 9th or 10th centuries - indicating both that slavery existed in Cornwall at that time and that numerous Cornish slave-owners eventually set their slaves free

5:03 is especially weird, as the Hercules in the picture is dropping flares, which are a defensive measure when the plane is threatened by heat-seeking missiles. In other words: if this wasn't a staged photo that Hercules would actually be _running_ _away_ from the enemy.

8:51 what is even more laughable is that there are only 3 countries in the world that are still officially using the imperial system. USA, Myanmar, and Liberia. The two others most Americans would probably call 3rd world countries.
@wessexdruid7598

The US doesn't use imperial - they use their own version, 'customary units'. For example, an imperial gallon is 20% bigger than a US gallon.

Come on. Time we write it in a 24 hour system, but in conversations we still use 1 or 3 etc, AM/PM is usually not required. It is not like I go to my GP at 1 in the morning, or see a dentist at 4:30 in the morning. Using ones brain, tends to solve these non-issues. On the 18 year olds and drinking. Maybe time to listen to an old song that summarise (UK) this idiocy ver well. Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire.
