You definitely need to do whole episodes. I consider it one of the funniest shows ever made and it literally paved the way for British comedy afterwards nothing before since the pythons had done that.

His report from New York on 9/11 is fantastic if you haven't heard it. It was an extra on the DVD. Peter overslept and didn't realise what had happened but tries to blag being in the world trade center, getting ready for some meetings. it's great stuff.

This was based on a real person , Jeremy Paxman, who was famously unhappy at having to read the newspaper headlines at the end of each episode of NewsNight, a BBC news and current affairs late night daily programme. The nonsensical and surreal nature of the headlines in this skit reflect the disdain the host felt for this cretinous idea.

A headline that has always stuck in my mind was "The ghost of Michael Jackson bummed my Monkey". It was one of those joke newspapers like the daily star or the sun, the one with tits out everywhere

I think you would enjoy doing so too. Just like the show, Green Wing; that I tried to bombard all my favorite American reactors with in the suggestions, but so far no takers. :(

I used to get stoned with my mates and watch this show over and over on DVD. There's also the sequel, Brass Eye, which did a hilarious paedophile special the media went INSANE about. So Channel 4 repeated it a week later and even more people watched it. Brilliant.

If you're puzzled by the 'Robin Cock' headline..... there was a prominent Labour politician called Robin Cook in those days. And on a couple of occasions tv presenters said Robin Cock by mistake live on tv. So quite apt for The Sun newspaper to have to headline 'Robin Cock' More recently similar gaffs have occurred about Conservative politician Jeremy Hunt - I'll let you use your imagination as to how they said his name wrongly.😏

These are great but out of the context of the whole show, they loses something. The surreal scriptwriting is top drawer, but always funnier as a coda to all of the great sketches that have come before. It was also of its time because, although it satirises the news delivery of the time, actual news presentation has become more ridiculous in content, while the fashion for fancy animated graphics has declined - something The Day Today made into a comedic feature of the show.
