Thinking ketchup chips is weird is so strange to me, they're literally potato chips. Nearly everyone puts ketchup on French fries.

Canadians take ketchup very seriously as Heinz found out when they decided to stop using Canadian tomatoes and closed their Canadian bottling plant, they ended up losing a tonne of marketshare to French's who, at the same time, expanded their bottling capacity in Canada and switched to using exclusively Canadian tomatoes. Heinz ended up losing almost 20% marketshare IIRC.

As a Canadian, we use kettles for more than just tea. Hot chocolate, porridge, instant noodles... Hot water gets used for a lot of things.

The shoes at the front door is pretty simple to explain - In Canada for half the year we are tromping around in snow, which includes sand and salt laid down for traction, and nobody wants that mess tracked into their homes...

All Dressed chips were invented in Canada by Hostess Chips (which later merged with Frito-Lay and beacme Lay's Chips here in Canada). Hostess took the seasoning of each of the flavours of their chips and combined them all together into one flavour, calling it All Dressed. Those flavours were... Salt & Vinegar, Sour Cream & Onion, Ketchup, and Barbecue.

I was shocked to discover one winter in Florida when I wondered why the place we rented didn't have an electric kettle. I went to the local Wal-Mart to buy one and was shocked to discover that one of the salespeople had never heard of them and was shocked when she discovered they actually had them. Every Canadian household has one. We use ours for instant coffee, tea or for any reason you quickly need hot water. They're always on the kitchen counter and there's no need to dig out a pot to boil water.

I have a british friend who remarked about the amount of travel mugs Canadians have. They thought all canadians took hot drinks with them everywhere in their thermos from home. Go into any Canadian home and i bet you find a collection of travel mugs and thermos!

A long time ago, Kraft sold it's peanut butter in bear shaped plastic jars. There was 3 sizes so you could collect a family.

as a Canadian, not having a Kettle would be like not having a blender or a toaster. I was shocked when I heard that most Americans have never seen an electric kettle. I still can't process that. It's bizarre. I have one friend who doesn't have one, and I mock him for it regularly, and have even brought over my own kettle just so I can make tea at his home (which i also bring). But even if you don't drink tea, you can use it to make hot chocolate, or just heat up water quickly. Boiling water in a microwave to drink sounds repulsive to me. Like Europeans who microwave hotdogs. That's just wrong.

While traveling through the Dakotas, I asked the waitress if there was a Gluten free option as I have a severe allergy to "Wheat" She got the chef to come speak to me, and he told me I could just take the breading off the chicken. I said, "That's like telling me to take the peanut out of the Peanut Butter" He said, what is peanut butter?" 🤣😂 Same restraunt, I ordered lettuce wrapped loaded burger without the bun. When I got it, I told the waiter, "He forgot my tomato" She said, tomatoes don't go in burgers 🤣😂Then I asked for vinegar. She looked stunned...vinegar? For what? My fries I reply. She looked at me like I was an ailen eh😅

The whole thing about the Roberston Screw is that your screwdriver is very unlikely to slip out under pressure and cause injuries like flatheads, and most importantly MOST IMPORTANTLY - you can put the screw onto the end of the screwdriver or drill bit and it will stay on the end as you get it into position. Roberston superiority is legit.

As a Canadian citizen I wanted to share with you a little story I'm proud of. You were talking about Kraft Dinner, and have I got a good one for you. Kraft Dinner was actually invented in my hometown before John Kraft bought it out. It was called Till Mac for my home town of Tillsonburg Ontario. It was made at a local food processing mill back in the 1800's. Then I was told by mom that John Kraft, an Aylmer Ontario resident at the time, bought out Till Mac in the early 1900's. He made it into the popular famous KD but it was from a piddly town before that that nobody ever heard of. Tyler can research the story if you don't believe me. But I'm kind of proud of that fact . That and our town has a folk/ country song named after it by stomping Tom Conners. A fellow Canadian. It goes Tillsonburg, Tillsonburg my back still aches when I hear that word because we're a humble hard working bunch lol

The Robertson screw was developed by a Canadian. Henry Ford wanted R.L. Robertson to sell him a patent for it but Robinson refused. Ford spent a great deal of money to develop the Philips screw and screw driver, but it has never works as well. The Robertson screw is more widely used around the world.

It's so weird that Americans don't have electric kettles. Here in Canada, it's a normal kitchen appliance sitting on the counter like a toaster or coffee maker.

American homes wont have the dangerous Kinder Surprise eggs, but you will find a loaded gun in the nightstand.

Two other things I've noticed in Canada, specifically in Quebec, is milk in bags. You buy a pitcher to put it in that you fill up all the time. Also, there are places that have huge vats of wine with a spout on them. You bring back your empty wine bottles and refill them. So cool. Wish we had those things in the US

A Chesterfield is becoming a bit more of an older term, it to me is normally used to refer to the old floral textured sofas that most grandparents would have in their houses or the sofa thats stored in the basement.

Robertson screws are by far superior to all other screws for construction purposes. There are 4 sizes (0,1,2 and 3) and the drivers for them are color coded as yellow, green, red and black respectively. Size 2 is the most widely used. Twenty years ago I sold a small electric motor to a customer in North Carolina which I shipped to him in a carefully constructed custom wooden container. When he received it, he contacted me by phone immediately: "Nice shipping crate but how the hell am I supposed to take it apart?" I sent him a couple of #2 Robertson bits via overnight courier. Robertson should be the standard for all construction, Phillips should be labelled medium or light duty and used only in electronics, while flathead should be outlawed for all uses.

I grew up eating Squirrel brand peanut butter, also only a Canadian thing. They always had a single peanut on top of the peanut butter just under the foil seal, and the commercials had the slogan "Squirrel extra smooth. It's the one with the peanut on top!" If I recall, Squirrel had a stronger 'roasted' peanut flavor and was noticeably darker than Kraft.

Tyler, you need to provide us with a post office box so we can send you some Hawkins cheezies. SO much better than Cheetos.

The recycle bottles & cans has ALWAYS been a thing in Canada .(I’m 65) Not only do we take back to recycle BUT, the past couple decades I’ve left my recyclables by the ‘blue’ bin on pick up day & have a few different ‘bottle pickers’ who take away first .. I love that people who are lower income, sometimes homeless etc… actually have a sub culture. Economy of working all day to bottle & can pick and make money taking to recyclers. I sometimes give my bottles/cans to the specific bin for charities to get extra money. Not a big thing to do, but I love that I may be helping others in a very small way, grateful I can afford to do this.

Hawkins Cheezies have no problem differentiating themselves from Cheetos. They are crunchier, and cheesier, and preferable by far. This video brought up an interesting contrast in what's banned in the two countries. We ban food additives that might be harmful but are hard to notice. You ban toys that you're afraid yur kids might mistake for food.

You can also get Kraft peanut butter in "single serving" packaging in restaurants. Something you almost never see in the U.S. In the "States" you almost only ever see Jam in single serving packets. Never peanut butter. When my Uncle from L.A. came up to visit, he commented he had never seen it before.

I pulled on my toque and bunny hug and jumped in my truck and drove the grid to town. I carefully passed the big slough, slowing to 120 km per hour in my gas guzzling truck, using 19 L/100km of regular. I turned off the gravel road onto the highway, also gravel. I hit a big pothole and slopped my Timmy's double double onto my box of donuts and bismarcks, fortunately missing my bag of cheezies. I got to town and bought a half kilo of robertson number 2 screws, stopped at Sarcan to return my aluminum pop cans and beer bottles, I got $41.50 to put towards more Canada dry pop.(maybe some wobbley pop too)

Electric kettle (we just call it a kettle) is for SO much more than just tea. Every home has a kettle

Kids sometimes collect empty bottles for the deposit. We used to walk along the road and collect empties and take them into a store for a refund, if a deposit was required when it was purchased at the store.

As for recycling, here in Saskatchewan we have places where you can take your "empties" back for a deposit refund. They employ physically and intellectually challenged people who may otherwise have trouble finding employment. It's a great program and is a big win for them for us and for the planet.

I thought everyone had an electric kettle until I visited USA. On the East Coast, especially Newfoundland, there are a lot of people of Irish and English heritage so we are big tea drinkers.

Given our close ties to Europe (and the fact we didn't throw ours into the harbour) tea is quite popular in many Canadian homes. And electric kettles are great because you only need to turn them on, less prep, and they click off on their own when they have boiled.

anyone that has ever used phillips screws for their entire life and then had the privilege to use robertson screws for the first time will have instantly fallen in love. they don't strip. it's a miracle.

Also: Smarties (candy coated chocolate), provincial health care cards, litres of milk, hockey themed items, no guns, recycling bins, English and French on grocery items, very colourful paper money, loonies, toonies, the letter ‘U’ in colour, flavour and neighbour, (and several other words), the ‘er’ reversed as in ‘centre’ and ‘theatre’, and we write ‘cheques’, to name just a few!

All dressed is an "in house" flavor that employees made for themselves. It's BBQ, Ketchup and Vinegar together. It was so loved by employees that the company finally decided to sell it.

Here in Canada, when you buy your liquor, there is a bottle deposit of 10 cents per container that you pay up front when you get your beer and hard liquor but when you return your empties, you get that that money back. So, yeah, it helps to cut back on littering. Hawkins Cheezies are like Cheetohs but have a definite crunch

Tea is definitely popular in Canada. I dont think I've ever beem to a Canadian home that couldnt offer you a choice between a regular black tea and an herbal tea after dinner. Not everyone has an electric kettle though, but if they dont they have a specific stovetop kettle.

I can't believe nobody said anything about the Coffee Crisps chocolate bar. That's definitely a must try when visiting Canada.

Canadians have a certain love for ketchup. Besides the usual offerings of vessels for ketchup, we will put it on grilled cheese, KD and even shepherds pie (pâté chinois). Kraft PB used to be sold in glass jars in the shape of a teddy bear which were repurposed (and encouraged by Kraft) into piggy banks for all our loonies and toonies.

I've watched a lot of video about uniquely Canadian foods but the one thing I can't recall seeing are the Habitant soups. Their French-Canadian Pea Soup in particular is a staple in many Canadian homes. Unlike Campbell's and several over brands, Habitant soups are non-condensed, so the large, yellow cans are easy to find in the stores. Ironically, they were bought by Campbell's but are not marketed in the USA.

I would add 18% cream to this list. They only have that watery 10%, or half-and-half as they call it, in the US and you can't get a proper creamy cup of coffee anywhere there.

Kraft has also started making coffee with the teddy bears on the label, but I cant bring myself to buy it because my brain is programmed to think it will taste like peanut butter 😂

Tyler, as a Canadian I have learned much about the US from your videos. I live in Atlantic Canada and instead of a house hippo. I have a wild house weasel. True story. He’s small as a mouse but longer. Eats mice so I let him move in.

Where I grew up in New Brunswick we called a 24 pack of beer a flat of beer. A 12 pack was called a case of beer. A 6 pack was called a poverty pack.

Bought my American Aunts Tea Pot Cosies as part of a gift for letting me visit - they were NOT impressed! Both said (at different times - different households) “We don’t drink tea - Only when we’re sick!” 😮 I went out and bought each a bottle of Liquor when I saw what their favourite was! That worked!

6-9 months of winter, we need drinkable hot water 'on-demand' for multiple types of hot drinks. Almost all kettles in Canada are, at this moment, less than two minutes away from boiling temperature... until end of May. Lol!

I only recently discovered that Americans are not big fans of the electric kettle. I find this odd. I believe most other countries love their kettles. I am not a tea drinker but use mine at least 4 times week for things like instant noodles, cup of soup, maybe packet gravy or instant mashed potatoes (I don't actually eat those but its an option) Great appliance for a dorm room. Oh and lets not forget that at some point you are going to have to use it as a makeshift steamer for clothing or to get that old wallpaper off the wall. Multi use appliance.

Provincial health cards. Everyone has one. It's a requirement to have to receive health services. They're issued by the government because of our universal health care system.

I noticed you didn't mention Eatmore candy bars. We call them chocolate bars by the way. I always missed Eatmores when I visited the States.

Tyler, you forget Canada is a hybrid of the UK and France. There are plenty of things here, like tea, that made it's way across the ocean a long time ago. I used to be a big tea drinker at one point. And as for Hawkins Cheezies, they are in a class of their own. Much, much better than Cheetos. I've seen some reactions from Americans trying Canadian snacks, and they loved the Hawkins Cheezies.

I feel like a big part of your audience is humble Canadians who want to hear someone speaking positively about Canada, because they won't do it themselves.

Hawkins Cheezies are similar texture to Crunchy Cheetos but are slightly more crunchy and more of a sharp cheddar flavor. Also fun fact, most Canadians refer to any type of cheese puff as cheezies, not just that brand. We also have Skippy and store brand peanut butter, but Kraft is by far the most popular. As someone who works in construction, every Canadian despises Phillips or flat head screws, Robertson screws are far superior as far as the screw staying on the bit and not stripping.

House hippos are deadly real Tyler. Too many people were disturbing their habitats in the 90s which is why that ad was put out trying to protect them. Surprisingly despite their differences in appearance they’re quite closely related to the Australian drop bear! At least genetically speaking they have a common ancestor

We use to love the kraft peanut butter when it was in glass jars shaped like a teddy bear. We use to collect the glass jars to use to store items we used a lot.

I find it hilarious that in the US you can feed your kids all kinds of carcinogens but god forbid you give them a chocolate egg with a toy in it!

The electric kettle is used for tea, but also for instant coffee, instant noodles, pre-boiling water for stovetop cooking such as pasta (it's faster in the kettle), instant hot chocolate, etc. Also great for auto-shutoff... can set the water to boil without having to watch it and worry about it boiling over. I mean, if I'm making a single mug of instant coffee for myself and I'm too lazy to wait for the kettle, yeah I'll nuke it in the microwave - but for a household of several people, the kettle is just easier to get a large amount of water boiled fast. I think the tea thing comes from us just wanting ALL the hot drink options in the winter. And a pot of tea is easy to share among visiting guests since not everyone likes coffee.

I didn't know Americans don't have the recycling deposit thing. Yeah, in Canada when you return your beer cans or bottles or pop ( soda) cans or juice boxes to the Recycling depot, they give you money for them. Most of the time if you buy a beverage in Canada, you will see "bottle deposit" or "recycling deposit" under the item. This tells you that you can bring it to the bottle depot for money. If you keep enough for long enough, you can get a sizeable amount of cash. My boyfriend and I have been able to afford dinner out on days we return our bottles

The Hawkins cheezies were actually made by two Americans after wwll and moved production to Ontario. They came long before other cheezies. We used to call them old fashioned cheezies. They differ from other cheezies and really are the best.

Tea is very popular in Canada; particularly, in the Atlantic provinces and those who come from their. My grandparents always had tea ready to drink almost all day. Good old Red Rose tea; something you probably don't find in the US.

I live in BC. I like all-dressed chips, I take of my shoes off. I take my empties to the Return-it Depot. Since they charge you a deposit on pop, juice, beer, milk, etc, why not take it to the return-it depot to get your money back. I like Multi-grain Cheerios also.

It wasn't until this video that I learnt that Kraft peanut butter is only sold in Canada and Australia. I thought most other countries knew what it was or had it. So sad that you don't have that in the U.S. There is also Kraft peanut butter chocolate bites.

I use my electric kettle for a couple things, one is peppermint tea, but mostly for preboiling water while i prep food, so i can just dump it in the pot and turn the burner on, and its already boiling. Saves quite a bit of time, and is a lot more efficient than heating an entire pot of water on the stove.

I'd say in Canadian homes you'll find toboggans and toques. Every single product has both English and French on it. Most people have something from Tim Hortons, (I have instant double double and an old travel coffee mug).

If you're drinking green tea because it's good for you, but you don't particularly like the taste of it, try steeping it at a lower temperature (176 - 185 Fahrenheit). Green tea can be bitter if it's steeped in water that's too hot.

A lot more often in America. If you’re in a big city, you won’t find a lot of mother dirt to step in in rural areas unless it’s rainy or wet and there’s mud. You sometimes only have to worry about potentially dust so I can understand it being a lot more common to not worry as much or as often about taking your shoes off indoors, but in Canada remember that half the year in a lot of places, we get snow, which even falls in big cities where there isn’t a lot of other things that are specifically good at sticking to shoes You can still get snow stuck to them. So we Canadians probably have to worry about things that could be tracked into the house stuck to the bottom of a shoe, at least a somewhat higher percentage of the time then a lot of Americans will have to even in big cities where paved roads and concrete sidewalks would, otherwise keep her shoes relatively clean. And that probably averages out to at least 50-60% of the time not including any of the rest of the time that you Americans would normally have to worry about rain in the mud 1015% of the time spread out over the course of the other half of the year. Yeah it definitely makes a lot more sense when you think about it that way I’m sure. just to clarify, all of those numbers are random numbers. I pulled out of my head as in exemplary estimate.

back when all beer sold in Canada regardless of brand, was packaged in a standardized bottle, you returned your empties for a refund on the bottle deposit. This was also true for many soft drinks. The returned bottles could then be washed, sterilized, refilled, and relabeled. It was not uncommon to find bottles in your purchase of a case of beer (the venerable "2 4") bottles which clearly showed the signs of repeated use.

I literally have 3 kettles. I keep getting gifted them due to their abundance in my town lol. Surprisingly I have used for all of them. 1 for hot drinks and 2 for adding to my car wash bucket outside.

At one point the Kraft Peanut butter was in a bear shaped jar which was cute... Until people noticed it was extremely hard to get the peanut butter out of all the nooks and crannies.

When I was around 5 I dropped a glass teddy bear jar of peanut butter on my big toe!! When I got to hospital the doctor lifted the cloth that was covering it, and the blood just projected right at him!! 😂😂 The Kraft Peanut Butter reminded me of it! 😄😃

Robertson #2 screwdriver(the red handle) is one of the best ever made. Not much you can't do with it. Our chocolate is better quality as we don't allow certain additives or chemicals used to process yours. Hexane is one of them. Actually, we tend to use less sugar and artificial colourings in food. Safer. Electric kettles are very useful. Not just to make tea. Heat the water then use it to get a jump on heating a pot of water. Faster and more energy efficient. Of course we take containers of almost every sort back for refunds. Have done for decades. We also recycle more and more these days. Not quite zero waste but we are getting there.

I always find it weird when people bring up the states being so "big" when comparing things to Canada since Canada is bigger.

Recycling of alcohol containers was a thing in Canada before we had expanded recycling programs. A deposit was included in the price when you bought your beer or booze. When I was a kid, we would go door-to-door and collect bottles to raise money for the Girl Guides. I'll add "Moose Droppings" in the snack cupboard.

My six BC grandsons would add their favourite candies: Wunderbar, Coffee Crisp, Aero, Glosette Raisins, maple taffee.....and the Skidoo in the garage, of course. Every home on their street has solar panels on the roof too.
