Calmness under duress is in our genes. When I was living on a canal boat My Mrs & I decided to moor up for the night in a remote spot in the countryside. I was preparing the boat for repainting so while the Mrs was preparing dinner I got the angle grinder out to remove some rusty bits. The wheel on the grinder exploded & hit the back of my hand. It felt like being hit with a hammer but then I realised that my face & the boat hand been sprayed with blood. On examining my hand I realised that there was a huge chunk of flesh missing. I went inside the boat & asked the Mrs to get the sowing kit out while I wash the wound under the tap. On seeing the damage to my hand & the blood pouring out she passed out. "Oh great" I said to myself. I then proceeded to sow up my hand & after she came round she asked me what happened. I said "I think there's been a slight malfunction with the angle grinder". Despite a slight hollow between my knuckles everything was fine.

Myself and my girlfriend (also future wife) worked as croupiers in casinos here in the UK. I remember that she was dealing on a roulette table and a particularly irritating customer was playing at her table and losing money. On the story about the queen, she was tiny in person so wearing a bright colour made her easy to spot. Amusingly a friend of mine worked for some aristocrats the queen often visited privately. Their extensive gardens were open to the public sometimes. Two American tourists came across her in the gardens. Adorably one of them said ‘You look just like the queen’. Her reply? ‘That’s reassuring’ leaving them none the wiser. Once she’d moved on my friend told them it was her!

quote 9 is wrong and also disputed. there are at least three versions historians argue over though the meaning was same. the most likey quote of Admiral Beatty at Jutland was most likely rhetorical, and said as "what's the matter with our bloody ships today?". another version says he turned to Chatfield and said "what's the matter with our ships today, Chatfield?" and an alternative is Chatfield's memory of the quote: "There's something the matter with our bloody ships today." Chatfield added this required no reply: there WAS something wrong.
