@@sirrodneyffing1 Oh yeah Im not being disrespectful in anyway to JPS or Americans. They speak in their strange way and we speak the proper Queen's English ;p
Really wish I could share your sentiments for Macmillan. They did absolutely nothing for my dad when he was diagnosed with and passed away from stomach cancer in 2012. Never turned up for visits when they said they would, failed in every way to help him financially and when we made initial contact the rep they sent out was more interested in securing monthly donations from us than discussing what help and support he may need.
@@jazzyb9488 And compare the huge companies' million-pound ones to the one made by the owner of a small hardware store in Wales a couple of years ago for a few pounds.
Remember this is the ENGLISH language so it is you guys who are pronouncing things wrong . It is Crisps not Chips . Chips are fried sliced potatoes . This is the Mother country after all and Mother knows best!! Love your videos 👍
We are a bit fussy about our food and where it comes from, so Mcdonald just trying to tell us it wasn't crap. We use lots of words differently, we also have lots of words for same thing.
No one will get cross with you about pronunciations, we think its charming that you think you are doing it right. 😉 Just remember the language is called English, not American!
Most people miss it, but in the British Heart Foundation advert, the little boy has a scar on his chest from heart surgery which is why he takes his top off :)
I know that there are a lot of comments saying how they’re shocked you didn’t recognise Jennifer Anniston but personally, I was shocked that you didn’t recognise Molly Weasley (Julie Walters) who was advertising glasses. Surely you’ve seen the Harry Potter films?
@@sheridanwilde you are totally correct. I imagine Sherlock would have been on BBC America but I don’t know if that is a standard channel or a subscription one. I thought he might be a bit young for The Hobbit films but he is only a couple of years younger than my niece and nephew, who are perfectly aware of who Martin Freeman is...I mean, he plays a recurring character in the Marvel Universe too, so there are many things he could have seen him in.
Only a year late... LOL! But I couldn't believe he didn't seem to know who Jennifer Aniston was ??? Has he NEVER seen an episode of 'FRIENDS', any film with her in it OR any 'Talk Show' !?
Macmillan are a charity that helps anyone with cancer in their last days, they are staffed by 'Angels' and show a level of care for the dying that i've never experienced before! A truly excellent Charity and long may they continue!
@@rachjade8785 I call them 'Angels' because the way they make the end of life bearable for the patient! Your aunt must have been a one of the Angels God bless her! they took great care of my mother!
It's not just in the last days, they are a support from diagnosis, they helped myself getting benefits and other things I was entitled to,luckily I survived and they were with me all the way
React to UK Christmas adverts including the Sainsbury's 1914 Christmas truce advert about the historic event that really happened in WW1 between British & German Troops in the trenches.
@@michaelprobert4014Yeah it's pretty old, but not obscure, it was consistently in the top 3 most popular shows for 10 yrs between the mid 90's and early 2000's. I very much doubt he's never seen at least a clip (if not an episode) of Friends! But I was just giving the info though, given that he was taken aback by the accent.
As others have already said the UK Christmas ads are amazing! A must watch, they’re like mini films. I’d recommend the ‘Christmas day truce of 1914’ it’s a Sainsbury’s advert and is based on a true story!
MC Donalds has had a lot of negative vibes about the food being trash so they show you a nice farm to say that's where the ingredients in your McDonald's comes from. Also it's CRISPS😂😂😂 and you not knowing Jennifer Aniston wow.
M&S or Marks & Spencer is chain of department stores and food stores, selling overwhelmingly products commissioned by them. I worked for them for 30 years.
They are Crisps, like a good proportion of good things you enjoy in the US, they were created in the UK. The earliest recipe comes from an 1817 recipe book. Before being packaged as a snack they were an accompaniment to roast pheasant and know as Game Crisps.
The Worthers ad isn't British, but German and dubbed. Yes you're right pronunciation between the UK and US on some words are different, but obvs the UK version is correct and yes original English 👍
Ah, crisps Vs chips - a classic. What I REALLY needed to know as a teenager was not to ask my American classmate if I could borrow a rubber. It caused a minute or two of amusing misunderstandng.
Macmillan make ads that are hard hitting, cos cancer is hard hitting. They are an amazing and incredibly supportive charity. I didn't know how much they supported until I needed them and then nothing was too much trouble. We need to keep supporting them.
I have had cancer and the MacMillen nurse was there from the beginning to help you and answer any questions. I have been in remission for 8 years and I could still talk to them if I was worried about anything.
By the way, Aluminium is even spelt correctly by the American Chemical Society. They point out the it’s spelt incorrectly often…but they do ultimately concede when it comes to actually producing the periodic table on their own website. England 🏴 rests its case. Thank you everyone
Mate if you come to England and you asked for chips they will either point you in the direction of the frozen section you get frozen chips that you put in the oven or they will point you in the direction of a fish and chip shop they are crisps in England.
Hi, I'm an old Brit who's only just discovered your channel. Love how you put these things together and I love your perspective on us over here! Really enjoying it. Keep up the great work and, yes, I've subscribed!!!
I always think the best adverts are the ones you wouldn’t necessarily consider remotely linked to the subject. They’re more memorable. There are also some dark health and safety ones that I don’t think are so easy to forget either.
Two things you may not have known with the adverts: 1. We usually have 3 mins of adverts between programmes and the same in the intervals during a programme. A 30 min programme would have one batch, a 60 min programme would have around three batches. 2. In the UK all prices are inclusive of the VAT (what you call sales tax or goods and services tax) so when you see a price on an advert, that would be the full total price. Something you might find interesting to check out is the postage/mail system in the UK and how postcodes (what you call zip codes) work here.
Tesco does a great meal deal. They have choices of mains like sandwiches or sushi for example. With that you get a range of snack choices like crisps (not chips) or you can have a bag of prepared fruit or salad pieces for example. And with your choice of main & snack you get a drink. That can be water, fruit juice, a healthier drink or even a Starbucks cold coffee. So you get 3 things which would normally come to over £5 ($7) & you only pay £3 (around ($5.) So if you ever come here, I suggest you go to a Tesco and get a meal deal. You will be pleasantly surprised at the range of choices for it.
Wow, people really don't see that you, as an American, can have a dry sense of humour!! So while they eat crisps, bought with pence and take their vitamins, I think Christmas ads would be a more uniquely UK experience for you!!
I live on a farm, but my third son runs it. It is a coffee farm, with about 10,000 acres of pasture for cattle, goats and sheep. Obviously, I don't live in the UK 🇰🇪
The reason its pronounced v(ih)tamin and not v(eye)tamin is because there is no modifying vowel, take the words sit and site the e modifies the i's normal sound from (ih) to (eye). Even in the UK the quality of English language teaching has nosedived over the last 30 years or so, so not many get taught how vowels, double vowels and modifying vowels work anymore.
Crisps are called that because they are thin slices of potato fried until they are CRISP! Chips are sticks of potato fried till they are cooked and golden to eat hot as part of a meal - or just on their town
We pronounce so many things differently - Vitamins, Aluminium, Nuclear, Herbs - but we've become conditioned to hearing you lot mispronouncing them, more than you have to hearing us say them properly. ;) Some Xmas commercials are a decent shout, or you could watch some older classic ads. Or if you wanted to go down a more challenging viewing experience, you could always watch some of our PSA's
A lot of those ads are international ones that get a local dub (like the car ones, Werthers and Jennifer Aniston in the Aveena one) rather than proper British ads. (Also, laughing slightly that you didn't recognise Jennifer Aniston)
JP. The lady advertising Aveeno is Jennifer Aniston. How can you not know her. She's one of the 'Friends' characters. She played Rachel. She's been on numerous films & programs. Two films she's been on are 'Bruce Almighty' with Jim Carrey & 'Marley & Me' with Owen Wilson.
The first one.... the animal is a Meerkat from africa. We call chips.....crisps, and frenchfries chips. The purple brick advert is for an estate agents.
You might have missed something about the advert with with the boy who you didn't understand saying heart (it doesn't show up well on a smaller screen). He'd had heart problems as a baby and had an operation to fix it, the reason they have him take his top off is to show the scar.
that moisturiser advert you thought was an American accent. That’s because Jennifer Anniston is American lol she was in friends too if you’ve ever seen it.
I have a Peugeot Rifter - 6 gears - gray for off road - living a rural Scotland. By the way “vitamin” not “vite amin”. And crisps not chips - this is like “you say potato I say I potato” 😄
First time a crisp was called a crisp or chip was by an American cook who called it the Saratoga Crisp. Hope that helps oh and the original recipe was british but was called pomme frite, 🤔
McDonald’s lost a lot of public trust around 20 years ago because of its food production practices. Partly because of the BSE crisis and its reputation for unhealthy food loaded with fat, sugar and additives. Also because it was using huge international sporting events to promote itself, especially to children. As a result they offer healthier alternatives, reduced unnecessary additives sugar fat and salt and no longer use horrendous things like mechanically reclaimed “meat”. They make a point of sourcing food from British farms which are subject to high standards of food production. They make a point of demonstrating this in their ads. It’s still fast/processed food, but a lot better than it was. My kids are completely addicted😬🤣
lived next to farms all my life in the UK when i was younger the end of summer was always highlighted by the hay making on the farm and you would help the farmer bring his hay in for the winter as our farms are dairy farms you could buy your milk from them at any time if the shop was closed which was more often in the 70s as there were stricter closing hours
Some times I have no idea 🤷♀️ what they are trying to get us too buy 😂 but some times the advertisements are better than the TV 📺 programs Keep up he good work 🇬🇧
Does any other Brit remember the BANNED birth to death ad, the baby being shot out of his mum, flying through the air, aging rapidly before dying and crashing into a coffin. What was that for?
