I would never have a child with someone that had another football club in their heart. It would be devastating if my kids started to love another team. Now I have a husband that are not interested in football (or hockey). He is a fan of speedway, so our kids can sing chants/songs in both our love for our teams, they don’t collide in any way. 💛❤️💙

support for a team goes back ages. It's intertwined with defending your city, and your land. That's why derbies can be quite aggressive. There is real hatred here. You just don't decide one day to support another team. It can get you killed, literally.

about the tribalism, the video literally said it...'from the time of city states'. Back in the days, what are now cities, were independent 'kingdoms'. Few of the famous ones in italy...Genoa, venice, Firenze, ancient cities that once battled each other for control of trade and such. Now there are in the same countries, but the old fute remains, be it more amical as in the old days. On the other hand, humans have always used sports in ancient days to go to battle without going to war. We also have a lot of cities where there are more as 1 team, where one is catholic and founded my irish immigrants and one is protestant (celtic and rangers in glasgow). In the balkans you often have teams where one is a team of the people, and another was founded by the army for example, and i dont have to explain how those futes work. Clubs in europe always were always tied into the community where they started, they often have many sports apart from football, also basketball, handbal, waterpolo, combat sports...and a lot of ultras do follow more as one sport. If you want to see something funny, look for waterpolo ultras. As for the flares and such...as ultras, you always want to make a statement, overpower the other clubs chants and so on. And you mentioned cultlike...no.... our clubs are not businesses, our clubs are our communities. And granted, since big money entered the scene, a lot is changing, but in its core...our clubs have an identity, politics, religion and so on. If you really want to find something to compare it to in the US...your patriotism, but replace USA and country with club and city.

well, football can sometimes the last thing people have in some countries (where relegion or politics are strict or forced upon by the political leader etc), so they protest with chants against the politics and getting "marked as criminals" mostly for it

I consider myself to have a very calm and philosophical nature but when it comes to my Football team, it can bring out the worst in me over something extremely petty. I am certainly tribalistic and I have to say, Tribalism in Football is barbaric and toxic but a part of who we are. I believe if you are a fan by choice you are not a true fan, true fans are born into the team that runs cold through their veins.

You keep mentioning violence and ultras as if is a synonymous, but that’s so far from the truth and reality. Ultras are super fans that are part of that team for generations. Without ultras there is nothing. The atmosphere is dead. We need ultras in football as we need people to make a society
