I'm a Geordie (Newcastle fan) but this Liverpool anthem moves me to tears whenever I hear it. It's one of the most passionate anthems in football and even more so when you remember the people who lost their lives at Hillsborough. God bless the 96 ❤️

When you have that crowd with you it is fantastic. I am a Leeds fan and I remember in 1969 (I am old) Liverpool v Leeds was the game that decided who won the title. Leeds won. After the game Liverpool fans were clapping, cheering and singing for Leeds even though they were heartbroken. It takes a big heart to do that and I will never forget it. They proved themselves the bigger club that day.

@@daviecole8220 The first part depends on which League we are talking about. We are quite often the best team in Yorkshire and that is really all that counts 😆. As for Champions League wins, I have it on good authority (mine) that we will win that for 10 years running, starting in 2025. Last year we got in the top 10. Now it is simple maths that 10 is 2x5 so that counts as being in the top 5 for the last 2 years. 😁

Poignant to hear this as both Gerry Marsden the singer of this song passed away this year. Also Andrew Devine became 97th victim of the Hillsborough disaster. I believe his name will be added to Liverpool's memorial at Anfield. He passed away on 27 July 2021, 32 years after being hurt in a crush at an FA Cup semi-final in 1989 that led to 96 other deaths.

putting football aside, there's certainly something about the people of Liverpool. they have always produced comedians, singers etc and have a very strong sense of culture. it's an unfortunate truism that it's those who have the hardest lives, whether through poverty, hardship through tough and/or dangerous work, or whatever, that produce the most enduring culture and the strongest communities. it's what is created to help people endure their hardship. it is the natural way of people, to want better lives; easier lives, especially for their children, but something is often lost, in the process. not always, thank goodness, but i love the sense of identity that Liverpool people have.

'You'll Never Walk Alone' is originally from the musical 'Carousel' and was popularised by Liverpool band, Gerry and the Pacemakers, in the 1960s. It was then adopted as Liverpool FC's anthem. As the commentator says, a club blessed with great glory but also great tragedy. The same goes for the city of Liverpool itself that has known the greatest of joys and successes and tragedies and sadness, from its football team to the Beatles, to the Heysel and Hillsborough incidents to the Jamie Bulger and Ava White horrors and everything in between. This song speaks to the heart of one of the most diverse and welcoming cities with some of the warmest people you could hope to meet.

That made me cry I’m a Londoner and support Chelsea but my heart went out to the families of the 97 fans who lost their life’s going to see their club play a semi final cup match at Sheffield Wednesday ground Hillsborough. No body who saw that tragedy unfold before their eyes could have failed not to have been distressed and shocked by what happened that day. And you’ll never walk alone became more poignant to those families who lost their loved ones . I’m watching a programme on one Mother’s fight for justice that’s on this week. God bless her she fought to get the truth but died before the verdict of unlawful killing was given against those responsible for keeping fans safe. God bless them all they’ll never walk alone they’re walking with god now. RIP

Three Belgians were prosecuted for Manslaughter:- Albert Roosens, the head of the Belgian Football Association, for allowing tickets for the Liverpool section of the stadium to be sold to Juventus fans who attacked the police with rubble and bottles; and two police chiefs-Michel Kensier and Johann Mahieu-who were in charge of policing at the stadium that night. I know this is about Liverpool, but you should also do one reacting to the Scottish club, Hibs (Hibernian) fans singing "Sunshine on Leith", by the Proclaimers. There are various versions of it on RU-vid, several after beating rivals Hearts, but the best ones are after their 2007 League Cup and 2016 Scottish Cup wins. A few years back there was a reaction video from a US Liverpool fan about it, but I don't think it is up anymore.

Actually you're wrong and this is coming from a life long supporter the song was actually written and sang by Rogers and Hammerstein in the 1945 for the musical movie Carousel then remade in the 1960s by Gerry Marsden and the pacemakers and then released again by Gerry and the pacemakers (Gerry was a well known LFC fan) in memory of the 1980s Hillsborough tragedy against Sheffield Wednesday f.c in which fans and players alike was killed. Sadly the real Kop went when the all seater stadiums were forced onto the game. The original Kop was all standing with crowd barriers in 95% of the stand, there was a small section in the middle and just before half way up that was freestanding. That was the prize location to be in, the crowd swayed back and forward all trying to see the goals being scored. If you watch through old games you can see that section surge forward as a Liverpool players scored or put a shot on at goal. Its now being fully modernised and its height has nearly doubled. That emotion you mention is Scouse Pride,
