1970’s Remember the Sandman’s as a kid they were everywhere usually in a beach car parks the shag pile carpet every trip to the beach back then was like going to a car show the colours were eye candy the internal lights the sound systems ..and of course every Sandman had an accompanying chick in a bikini , I was so envious as a kid - but I feel so lucky to have grown up in that environment. Thanks Wastie and Mad Skelli for the memories ! Take me back to those times !!

4:51......they were Australia's last ever true van, the Ford XH of about 1997 I think. There were Commodore vans after that, but they had roofs and side panels that were removable, and not properly integrated into the design.

There is only 1 mambo van, but there are 1500 modern sandman models. Some are wagons & Ute's & some have the panelvan canopy.

Well, thankyou - that was really good - I knew about the new "panel van" Sandman, but didn't know it went beyond a concept car. First time to see VE and VF versions. You can see them playing with the colours ie: base colour and stripes The dark grey at the end with the orange stripes, works really well. This reminds me of wooden rectangular rods and squares we had when we were children and were used to teach counting, and had vivid colours. When not counting we would compare colour combinations, like with a very big coloured pencil/textas set. A lot of the stunning combinations were those that you think wouldn't go together, but they do - and you can seem them in the cars. Believe it or not, Pink and Grey, go really well together 😂

Now I know why my wonderful pet moth didn't come home two weeks ago. RIP Mon Mothma, who would have thought an innocent trip to the loo would be your downfall....😥

I'm going to throw in little point of debate here... In my (unpopular) opinion, It's only a panel van if it's all metal! throwing a canopy on a ute is not a panelvan.

6:20 I love the originality even for someone who has mixed feelings about rat rod look but I wouldn't change anything about it!! There really is beauty in memento mori and it deserves every rust spot as a badge of honor! P.S. National Roads and Motorists' Association, but most people are members of the RACV (Royal Automabile club Victoria, or RACN for NSW, RACQ for Queensland etc)

I showed up at a venue today that was meant to host an all Holden event, but it's been rescheduled to June....... something I didn't realise until after I arrived. The date on the Google listing was still the same, with the new date only showing when you go into their website more....... something I didn't see the need to bother doing. The reason for the cancellation:- cloudy weather! Back in the day, Holden's were built for tough conditions and all weather scenarios, yet now they can't handle a bit of drizzle! As it turned out, it never ended up raining, but cleared up. The trouble with car shows in ultra sunny weather is the sun throws shadows around, making it impossible to capture good shots with the camera, unless the sun is directly on the side on the car you want to photograph. To the organisers and owners alike........just toughen up will you! Some rain won't hurt your now precious little babies.

We need to see you go to one of these events in a Drifter :-)

Some ideas sometimes sadly only last up to final concept like the last sand man, and some last centuries and get perfected by others... I feel as you say the 20th of century or the second half was full of colors and ideas but now we are in a malaise era in terms of ideas sadly and look forward to next wave! You didn’t look at the nice looking FJ Holden at the start of the video? They are cool looking vans. BTW Chev had a crappy convertible style Ute (SSR?) that you showed in a US video that looked to me like a cartoon tribute to a FJ Ute.

5:02 Those are mid to late 90's models before the AU but if you look at the rear it is virtually a Ford XD falcon and it is remarkable they got away with making it like that lol Anyhow I don't think they did make a sundowners then as they would have stopped in the 80... (However I stand to be corrected) P.S. I think you did film one of the last sundowner though...?

That was cool, cheers mate. The only SANDMAN PANELVANS that interest me is the original H series from HQ to HZ & everything else is just wrong also the vans with Windows in the sides is disappointing. ✌🤠

Cars are so bloody boring now compared to the cars Wastie discovers for us. In the 70s my Mum had a tangerine orange XB with a black interior and the people over the road had a purple XA with a gold stripe.
