The American Silver Eagle. The world’s best-selling, most popular, and recognizable sovereign bullion coin. Will I ever buy them again? For YEARS now, I’ve largely avoided buying the American Silver Eagle. I filled a monster box of silver eagles prior to the pandemic, saw the premiums go ballistic, and I subsequently swore off this "Tier 1" silver stacking target of mine. I moved to hoarding silver rounds like two tubes of silver Scottsdale Mint Cowboy rounds from SD Bullion. I got those silver rounds for under my personal premium limit of 20%. Silver Eagle premiums are way more than that! And that’s why, when people ask me if I’m buying American silver eagles I say NO WAY! In this video I discuss the US mint's production issues and government requirements to “meet public demand” for silver eagles. I also discuss the challenge of buying silver planchets from suppliers at MARKET VALUE while suppliers buy their silver above spot price to mint their own silver products. Later in the video I unbox other random government-minted sovereign silver coins in cull or circulated condition that I got at just a 15% premium over spot! Finally, I share another great deal on a gold mining stock I couldn’t pass up largely due to the recent dip in the price of precious metals.

I abandoned my Monster Box a while back. Made it to 75 ASE's then I had to stop. Rounds have been so much of a better buy over the last couple years compared to Silver Coins. I haven't managed to get any Cowboy rounds, but I did scoop up 20 buffalos and a 10 oz bar. Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day with the family!

I have been stacking for a little over a year now and on my first purchase I got taken pretty badly because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Since then I have been doing a lot of research and watching a lot of videos especially from you and silver dragons. I have learned a lot and I have not been really concerned with the premiums but now since this video I will start looking at those as I collect more silver coins. Thank you for all that you do for America and for the stack in community.

I have been stacking for 45 years. My first,Silver Coins, cost me $3.75 up to around $22 per coin. In he last 10 years, i buy a box at a time. Started with U.S. coins, then quickly moved to Canadian, and British and Kurgrans. I was even lucky enough to buy from a pawn shop. 100 ounce bars at $3.50. Have at least a dozen. Keep up the great videos.

I picked up 20 of the Scottsdale Cowboys. I was so impressed that I picked up another 80 so I could fill an SD Bullion mini monster box. They are by far my favorite silver round. I really hope Scottsdale Mint continues to make them! Now I just need to grab some more silver coins!

Great video Yankee. Nice collection of silver coins. I was fortunate that my LCS dealer pulled 27 “cull” ASEs a few months ago and sold them to me for $5 over spot. Other than that, I buy about 10 eagles at the beginning of each year to continue my kids collections and I give my nieces and nephews one on each of their birthdays. It’s hard to believe we’ll ever see tubes of ASEs for under $400 like when I started in 2018 but we’ll see what the future holds. Have a great rest of your Memorial Day.

Great haul of Silver Coins there Yankee. I got my 2023 Britannicas early before the big premium jump, but holding off on the ASEs because of the premiums. We are only hope they drop to something more reasonable near the end of the year. The US Mint is truly making it impossible to justify stacking a monster box worth of ASEs.

I agree with your sentiment regarding Silver Eagles, I also prefer stacking rounds because of the lower premiums and constitute 70% of my stack. I love the SD Bullion cowboy round and have a few on the way. Sovereign Silver Coins have been my favorite, in the past I have ordered random silver coins, but I have not chosen to purchase culls or circulated. I’ve been stacking for several years and got enthralled with all the other Silver Coins around before I started to focus on Silver Eagles. Soon after I started buying them the prices went crazy… no more monster box goal for me! It’s pretty bad that I have so many more foreign coins than US ones.

Hey Yankee, those silver coins were definitely worth getting especially for stacking. A couple of milk spots is not a big deal. At 15% you have to make that deal. Smart move Yankee!!!!!

Early in my stacking I latched on to 1-1/2 tubes of BU ASE when spot was just over $21. I'm done with acquiring any more. Since then I've been adding weight and recently got some BU Canadian Maple *Silver Coins* for less than the price of generic rounds! Just wish premiums would go down so I could add to my 90% *Silver Coins* collection.

History Lesson: There is an old story that I heard when I was a kid (I'm now 74). During WW2, several Hollywood Celebrities thought the USA would lose the war to Germany. To protect their assets, they put their money in several different foreign bank accounts. 1/3 in the USA and the rest in South America, and Germany. Those banks in turn bought "silver and gold coins and bars" for their clients. They wanted to make sure if the USA would fall to Germany, they'd have German marks. I wonder how many Celebrities do that today? Thanks, Yankee

@@spg77777 True, but it's still worth something. If it wasn't, every gold and silver vendor in the US would not be accepting it for their goods. I keep cash in my stack because it will continue to have some value for a long time now and I'd rather spend it than silver or gold. It took 200 years for the Roman Empire to collapse. No doubt people back then were predicting its immediate demise. Just remember that inevitable does not mean immediate.

Hi Yankee! I don't think we should turn our backs on the ASEs! I'm still buying them, when I can get them for a lower premium. I've slowed my buying as well, as my silver budget has stayed the same, but the price of the ASEs have gone up! 😎 There is no shortage of silver, or shortage of silver planchets, it's just another issue blamed on the "Supply Chain", which could be fixed very quickly with a new administration! 😎I hope it changes in 2024, because I don't think I can take much more of this.

"Silver Coins." Keep the content coming Yankee! My wife is a South African and I am English. I can follow heritage lines back to Austria. Ever since the ASE has gotten out of control, I buy the three other sovereign coins. I served 25 years in our military and was hurt pretty bad in Afghanistan, so I honestly love my Country! But when my kids open the safe when I die they will have another interesting conversation about our family. Besides they can have fun going through all the 90 percent I collect in my books.

Good morning, Yankee. I absolutey love your videos!! I have about 10 silver rounds, have yet to buy any Sovereign SILVER COINS though. I have been collecting Constitutional silver and Canadian Silver coins over the past year mostly because my LCS sells them to me at spot, no premium... I don't have much to spend on stacking, Basically I have to put a little away each paycheck and can go to my coin dealer once every couple months to buy the foreign coins...
