Hollywood star John Cusack was branded one of the so-called Brat Pack back in the 80’s when he co-starred in hits like Class, 16 Candles and Stand By Me.
He went on to co-star in, among other films, Con Air, Grosse Pointe Blank, Being John Malkovich, The Grifters and High Fidelity.
John also has four siblings in the movie industry, including sister Joan Cusack.
But back in 1985 he co-starred opposite Daphne Zuniga and Nicollette Sheridan in a movie called The Sure Thing, directed by the great Rob Reiner.
A road-trip romantic comedy, it got some very good reviews at the time and is still regarded as something of a gem in the genre, mainly due to excellent performances from John and Daphne.
Back then, I caught up with John by phone, shortly after the film was released, and started by asking him about Rob Reiner’s approach to directing actors.
John has appeared in almost 100 films over a career spanning 40 years, but has also been both a producer and screenwriter on a number of projects.
His latest film is an action thriller called Pursuit.
He turned 57 in June 2023.
