Tayto invented the flavoured crisp. They were the first in the world to make cheese and onion and salt and vinegar crisps then sold the manufacturing process to the rest of the world. I lived around the corner from the Cadbury and Tayto factories as a kid......the smell of the air was unbelievable!
Cadburys is also made in Dublin, Ireland. Irish Cadburys is a very slightly different recipe. I lived with people in Birmingham, England (the home of Cadburys) who worked in the factory in Bourneville, Birmingham who said the Dublin Cadburys was considered even better than the Birmingham Cadburys.
“Milky Way, the treat you can eat between meals, without ruining your appetite “ TV Ad when I was a child. I still remember the song for the finger of Fudge ad 🤣🤣
The ad that stuck with me from childhood was: N-e-s-t-l-e-s- Nestles makes the very best........chocolate! But since we were cheeky monkeys we changed it to: N-e-s-t-l-e-s- what comes out of your a-s-s-......chocolate.
My great aunt Delia ran a sweet shop in Ireland in the 60s and 70s. When we went back home from England during our school holidays it was a great treat to visit and buy an ice cream. Not a cone but a thick slab cut from a block and served between 2 wafers. After her husband passed on it became the hang-out for teenagers . Chairs appeared in the shop with more outside and a few old tables. You could also buy minerals and other soft drinks and if the rumours were true (they were) single cigarettes if you were an older boy- never girls. Coke and 7up were almost luxury items compared to red lemonade.I made lifelong friends here who I would later go drinking and clubbing with. When she died it was standing room only at the church.
Yep icecream sold in a block.. cut a perfect wedge and put between 2 rectangular wafers and you've got yourself an Irish 'Slider'! (Being up in Derry it was Dale Farm ice cream. Usually vanilla or Raspberry Ripple. Every Sunday evening in the Summer a few hours after Sunday dinner at Granny's House with all the cousins this was our treat!
@@callendunne9156 Oh Banshee bones are class, don't get me wrong. But they're more like, number 2-4 kinda range for me. Definite top 5, but Meanies are undisputed #1
When I was a student at the National College of Art in the 60's in Dublin, we used to go to a little place across the street for a break and we would drink "hot orange". It was the orange cordial and boiling water, served with 2 biscuits (cookies). Loved it.
i remember the corner shop that was at the end of the street an i used to walk to school and every morning the shop keeper gave me a flake chocolate bar its still to this day my favourite chocolate bar other then twirl and amy and ashton you pair were awesome in this
@@AmyMcDonaghGuitar thank you for showing some yummy treats and the memory lane I no we have 3 same treats in aus as in Ireland the biscuit with the jam an coconut we call ice vovo here very Moorish
I understand when Ashton is saying that American chocolate/sweets have a stronger taste. My boyfriend is from Bulgaria and their chocolate and sweets are not as strong as the American chocolate. Really enjoyed your video. You two are so adorable together. Great chemistry.
Amy I’m so sorry I missed the premiere I must’ve overslept but I just watch right now I’ve never heard of any of this foods before besides the milky Way it’s in the smartest keep up the great work and I love you as always 💚
I mean you can't get better than Tayto's! My favourite are Salt and Vinegar too- but Cheese and Onion are perfect for a crisp sandwich at the beach! I have such good memories too of going to the pub as a child and getting Salt and Vinegar crisps and a coke! My go to order. Also- still one of my favourites, but you can't beat a 99 with a flake.
I was eating Tayto's as I found this video, and I used to live about a mile from Cadbury in Coolock, and the old Tayto factory was right behind Cadbury on the Malahide road.
I love Hershey's if there's nothing else but once you have the good stuff (anything other than American chocolate) I find it's kinda waxy and less chocolaty
Gorgeous out of the fridge! Cadbury’s originated from Birmingham. He was a philanthropist who educated his workers and built houses for them. His village was called Bournville. Ps Bacon crisps are NOT barbecue flavour😃
I love love love salt&vinegar crisps. You should try dairy milk chocolate with cheese&onions crisps though 🤩🤩. I have to say Amy though that your MiWadi portions were so small. That would be like drinking coloured water to me too lol. Empty that bottle in girl lol.. I live in the UK now and can still access some of those Irish treats, thankfully
I live in Central New Jersey on the east coast. I grew up on something sorta likeMy Waddy (spelling😂?) except the syrup is brown. It’s called Drink a Toast (also known as Take a Boost or if your a local, just… Boost.. it’s one of those things you either love it or hate it. It’s made all from fruit, just reduced down to a syrup, then add water. I LOVE IT! My Mom actually put it in my baby bottle 😂 no joke! We use the syrup straight off the spoon if you have a sour/upset stomach… works great. Has LOTS of caffeine …. Most people say it tastes like coke or Pepsi with no fizz. I love it with lots of ice and a Hot soft pretzel! Omg childhood , 😍😍😍
Thank you for this video it brings back great memories. I used to go to the The old Kings Head shoppe (2nd st, Santa Monica) or the Continental shop (now closed for my Irish choclate) when I came over to LA 30 years ago American Milky Ways are Irish Mars bars and the American Mars bars are milky ways.
Quick synopsis: "kimberlys" look like Moon Pies. The coconut biscuits look like white snowballs on top of a cracker. (Snowballs are chocolate cake covered in marshmallow and coconut). The orange drink looks like orange-ade which is non carbonated orange drink. Is yours carbonated? If not, it resembles the orange drink one drinks for a glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes. The irish smarties looks like American Spree candy. Milky way looks like 3 musketeers. The cheese and onion chips sound delicious. I would try those.
I had Flakes when I was in Ireland and loved them. We have had Dairy Milk chocolate bars and real Smarties in Canada forever. I grew up eating those. Apparently we have several other chocolate bars here that you can't get in the US. I am looking forward to my next trip to Ireland, hopefully end of October this year. I want to try some of the snack items you had in this video. I so love learning more about the country where my grandfather was born. 💚
Very interesting stuff. I’m from Texas and I would very much like to try the My Wadi, Milky Way, and the coconut biscuit (COOKIE) someday. Oh yeah, and definitely the Dairy Milk
Dairy Milk is the best. I tried to go back to Hershey after trying a Dairy Milk bar and it made me sick. Then I found out Hershey adds wax to keep the chocolate from melting and I've never had any of that brand since.
So I am from Galway, married to an American ("Yank") and living in Pennsylvania (near Hershey!). Hershey is OK, Dove is better, but Cadbury is king! We have teenagers now, and 2 step kids, in late 20s. Whenever I go home there is the guts of a case filled with all the things we can't really get here. I always have flakes, twirls and Maltesers, penguin bars, choc digestive, mint crisp, tiffin. I often get the mix bags or a box of quality street or Roses ...... and then ration like mad! When I worked in Saudi, each Irish person going home always had to bring back Chocolate Kimberly and cheese and onion crisps for the work family, so those bikkies for me, remind me of my Saudi days! I love watching you both, as it reminds me of early years with my husband. :)
I'm glad Tato is not assaulting ;-D But yeah, salt and vinegar are my favourites as well! As a child, spending time with my gradparents, 99s and of course Flakies are my "sweetest" memory! Later, my Mum used to bring me Flakies and, of course, Tatos from Éire. I also used to love the original AERO :-) Crunchies :-) The "biscuits" were always to be found in our house. My grandmother used to call the Jacobs Mikados Mickiedoos :-) BTW, Jacobs Cream Crackers with butter and Marmite or cheese are brilliant too :-) I hope you guys survived the indulgence :-D
I think that Cadburys Dairy Milk Chocolate was primarily produced in their Dublin factory. Crunchie is made from carbonated caramel, make a caramel mixture by cooking sugar till medium brown, then add bicarbonate of soda, the caramel will quickly turn into a fizzy mix, cool down and it hardens into what Cadburys called crunchie.
I worked in Bangkok and my Dad sent me boxes of Mikados. The gals in Thailand would wait for them to arrive., they loved them Love Kimberley also, Went to a wedding there recently and guess what she wanted as a present...yep Mikados andshe ate a whole pack before her wedding
I'm from Athlone, Co.Westmeath but live in Thailand. This video has made me miss a lot of my favourite things from home. Might be time to request a care package.
Takes me back to my youth. Tayto Salt & Vinegar, yummy, but I like cheese & onion too. “Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, a glass and a half in every bite.” One of the ads that ran on TV. I had a relative who worked in the Cadbury factory and she would bring us free bags of broken chocolate 🍫 and Flakes that would otherwise be discarded. I also love Cadbury’s Twirl. Basically, it’s a Flake smothered in chocolate, so not as much crumbly bits. 🙂
Dairy Milk is made in Ireland and UK, some of the UK owned shops in Ireland like Tesco bring UK made brands in through Northern Ireland distribution centers and sell them in Republic stores. It depends on the shop, just have to check the pack for where its made.
Cadbury Crisp and Tiffin were made in the Dublin plant of Cadbury. I miss the Pink Snack wafer. Time out is the closest these days. And Rancheros and Snax. And Rock Shandy. 😁😁♥️♥️
Cannot believe his brain didn't explode when trying all the Jacobs Kimberly and Mikado biscuits.....🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 Christmas childhood bites of pure joy 😂
These remind me of whooping cakes, I believe you call them here in the United States i’m not sure I got the name of it right but a version of that same kind of pops cookie with marshmallow surrounded by chocolate casing I don’t know because it’s been a while since I’ve had one of them that are sold a here in the states
I'm Canadian and I agree Dairy Milk blows Hershey out of the water! We're lucky we get all kinds of Cadbury treats here. Flakes are AMAZING! American Smarties are what we call Rockets here in Canada. Rockets only used to come out at Halloween but now we get them year round. And also Smarties here are WAY better than M&M's! Canada is unique in that we have a huge UK/Irish influence but also a huge US influence being so close to them. We have our in version of Cadbury but you can get the UK Cadbury stuff because there are tons of British/Scottish/Irish stores around that import it.
To me, this reminds me of the chewy Reeses bar, forget the name of it, but it exactly has the same texture and consistency as that bar right there. That you called tasty Styrofoam Ashton lol 😝
We have Dairy Milk, Malteasers, Smarties, Milky Way, and Crunchie in Canada...do they not have sponge toffee in the US? My favorite when I was a kid was WigWag, which is close to a Curly Wurly...
Hi Amy. I know im late to this video. We have the same things in Canada. I think a few are different. But the chocolate we have the same as Ireland. Love it! Take care!💛🌺💛🌺💛
What Americans call smarties are called Rockets here in Canada. Best candy ever.! At Halloween I used to eat them till my tongue went numb🤣 We have ketchup flavoured chips here too. Now that some of my family has moved to the US, I have to bootleg a couple of jumbo bags of Lays ketchup chips whenever I go down to visit. They last about 10 minutes after I get there 🤣 My favourite Irish Cadbury bar is the one with the little biscuit pieces in it, and if I remember correctly it has raisins in it too...maybe it’s called a Tiffen bar?🤔
Cadbury now owned by Kraft foods (USA) who created a sub division for confectionery products called Mondeleez who moved a lot of production from Cadbury Birmingham where it all started to Poland so your C.D.M. could be east european . It's just not the same. 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧
AMY, in Australia and New Zealand, we say the same about Cadbury's chocolate except instead of saying Irish we say Australian, and New Zealand respectively.. Aw, you had my favourite chocolate bar.....Flake! I think Crunchie is ok but I prefer our (Australia) Violet Crumble.
Cadbury's is not made in the UK, but, it is... Cadbury products sold in Ireland generally come from the Cadbury's factory in Coolock, Dublin, and Cadbury products sold in the UK come from the factory in Birmingham. They use the same ingredients and the same production methods, so you really cant tell a difference between them (although some people swear that there's a difference) BUT that bar you're holding was probably made in Coolock.
I'm half Irish (other half Indian) but as children we would always go 'home' to our grandparents in Lismore Co Waterford. So many memorys with this video, amazing. The Kimberlys my sister loved. I love Tayto's and when first went over by car i bought a whole box of 48 packets in the boot and a crate of red lemonade even though by then there was a bottle of Paddy's and a bottle of Jamesons as well. Have to disagree with you about Cadburys its British. There was a biscuit you could only get in Irelend like a mcvities chocolate digestive but with toffee in between. McVites do something similar but not the same and i can't remember what they were called.
I’m from germany… But i used to be an aupair in Dublin… it‘s fair to say that Cadburys dairy milk is the best 😋 But I would also die for cream eggs and cadburys hot chocolate… ❤️
Pity you had no chocolate bars that originated in ireland, such as Caffrey's macaroon bars. From Wikipedia, on Milky way bars "Milky Way is a brand of chocolate-covered confectionery bar manufactured and marketed by the Mars confectionery company. There are two variants: the global Milky Way bar, which is sold as 3 Musketeers in the US and Canada; and the US Milky Way bar, which is sold as the Mars bar worldwide (including Canada)."
