American teen missing in Bahamas after going overboard 

He jumped overboard on a dare. What did he win for the dare, nothing. Won the dare, lost his life. I feel so sorry for his parents and family and hope the kids who dared him can live with this the rest of their lives.

I can't fathom why people send their kids abroad on drinking holidays to party with their friends with zero adult supervision just as they are launching in life and lack judgment and experience to make good decisions. It just seems like such a dangerous combination. This spring break/graduation ritual is baffling.

Search has been suspended. Likely he has passed, as much of an athlete as he may be, the ocean is unforgiving. I feel bad for him, at that age many men feel literally invincible and make terrible decisions. Sometimes I feel lucky I made it through that stage without paying too much of a price.

Booze, teens, and water… what could go wrong?

He jumped overboard due to a dare. Once in the water he was attacked and taken under by either one shark or multiple. There is a video of what actually occurred and you can clearly see him struggling to swim away before his unfortunate passing. R.I.P to him

This is so tragic. To have done everything to nurture this young man to ensure his growth from a baby to a successful young adult..and then a senseless situation like this.

Hes not "missing" his body is missing. You dont go overboard at night like that and survive. Especially if its the next day and you arent found. This is terrible but false hope is worse.

When you get to a certain age and look back at your teenage years, it's amazing all the "I'm invincible" stupid things we did.

Being a crew member in ships, a person overboard is a morbid thing to happen. Because it is VERY easy to lose the person overboard due to the waves moving him around. And ship's can't just stop instantly, it's gonna take a few miles just to stop fully, and even more miles just to make a U-turn. It's bad enough for it to happen during the day, but at night it is made exceptionally worse because it is dark and hard to see. Not to mention the onset of hypothermia.

So they can take a video of him swimming but not pull him in?

I’ve been to a party boat in Haiti and in the Dominican Republic. I can honestly tell you, once the alcohol kicks in, people will do stupid things like jumping in the ocean for a swim.

When you are young you feel like you are invincible, but you don't have to be everything to everyone. You can still be cool and unique without proving a dare I hope his family is holding up and he might be found.

I did that years ago on a party boat, drunk, h***, and dumb, thank goodness a friend was with me, he couldn't stop me because I was bullheaded but he stayed with me and pulled me back up. I smh every time I remember and imagine how badly it could have turned out.

This young mans family nurtured and poured resources into him for 18 years to ensure his success in life, just for him to go on a privledged cruise with a bunch of other privledged, dumb kids and launch himself into the ocean in the dark of night, never to be seen again. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I am very afraid for our future as humans. These recent crops of adults are spoiled, have no common sense and are extremely immature. I can't imagine what state our world will be in once they come into positions of power and decision making and take over. Lord God help us.

Lots of big Tiger sharks in those waters. Hope he turns up.

As a parent, I understand wanting to search but if he was last seen in a dark ocean with no sort of life-saving device on or anything.....

I lost a high school friend in the Bahamas on his senior trip in 1989, from Caldwell Parish High School. 😔😭He opened the taxi door on the wrong side and was hit by a vehicle.

Think about consequences before making a decision.

Drunk, Dark and Dangerous. Common sense is so rare these days.

This is just sick! Who would dare there friend to jump in the water at night filled with sharks and then those people laugh at him. They laugh at him! It pains that this kid is gone now. Most likely drowned or eaten alive. Thats such a horrible way to go.

As shown in this video, it appears he was swimming nude, so it is not likely he fell overboard in that state. Most likely it was some sort of drunken dare.

It's hard to see a lot of people judging Cameron for making a mistake as 18 year olds do while having fun with his friends. He and his family go to my church and I was friends with his older brother growing up. He's a great kid and amazingly kind parents, some of the best people I know. We are all still holding out hope and prayer for him. His siblings and the community are distraught for sure

When I was 14 I went to Nassau in the Bahamas. It was a stop off of a cruise ship destination my cousin and I were swimming out there and we got attacked by a 10 foot Tigershark. I can only imagine what’s going on out there. I hope not though.

I don't know if he was drinking but I will say drinking and the ocean just do not mix. I almost died that way in my 20s. It was daytime and a random boat found me after the current pulled me away or i'd be dead. Again I don't know how he went overboard and related factors and I hope he is found alive.

The worse thing that can happen out in the open ocean is falling into it at night. So he won the dare and it cost him his life. His friend who dared him will live with that guilt for the rest of his life

He was swimming to the buoy and then saw the tiger shark and he swam away from the shark and buoy. Tiger sharks are huge and can grow like 16 feet.

I’d hate to say, but I’ve fished those waters and especially at night there are 50 sharks for every tiny bit of ocean in the islands, they will never find him ! Poor kid.

The parents should sue the kids who goaded him. It's no different than someone who pushes another to suicide.

He went overboard, life preserver was deployed, and video was taken... Why did the boat leave him?

They told us in the service to never take your eyes off a man overboard, especially at night, because they'll be lost in an instant if you do. Praying he returns safe but you don't play with the ocean like that; she doesn't forgive and loves to forget.

These right of passage trips away from home after graduation are not a great idea. I think of Natalie Halloway missing forever & liquor was involved. Kids don't need to be rewarded for HS Graduation. It is the bare minimum education required to set out into the world. These are dangerous times. A family trip or starting a job would be a safer choice. Let them bring a friend.
