Adventure Elliot is a bilingual travel vlogger (English and Spanish) with a particular interest in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy taking adventures - big or small - and my goal is to show the Spanish speaking world 1 video at a time.
The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It's kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I've always been extremely passionate about what I'm doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. @@Rudelherz I can kinda understand, even though I too smiled when he said that. I mean maybe he meant that he might have a bit different experience everywhere, because if his skin color. In the US this kind of thinking is more common, because of the race relations over there 🤷🏻‍♂️

My family took me, a Welshman, to Italy when I was ten years old (1979) and it did, indeed, change my life. I'm married to a Spaniard and have Spanish family and so it continues.

Its true, race in europe isnt really just talked about nearly as much. Alot of people hate the fact how american media is "importing" all this race thinking shit to Europe, and alot of people feel very strongly against it. That is why the right has been more popular in the recent years.

Nice to hear about your friend's impressions of Spain. Just being able to walk around and get fresh food in a friendly place is amazing. I've been taking Spanish for years in Canada but I have an advantage because I already speak fluent French, but Spanish verbos are harder than French!!! ¡Suerte!

On the other hand, Spanish has five vocalic sounds only. French has 11 vocalic sounds.

@@xalau5270 : Been speaking and working in French/English most of my life, but I realize it's hard for beginners to pronounce French. Takes years. Way harder than Spanish. I used to think French has lots of accents but Spanish has way more! hehe

I’m glad you liked it.. I’ve told Emeka he needs to return asap, as the people in Spain want an encore. I filmed this same video but in Spanish and the locals went absolutely wild for his reactions. Unfortunately he’s stuck in the US working now for the next year.

I can relate to what your friend felt there. When I was in Spain, about 3 months ago, I never felt happier in my life. I felt like I was an Andalusian, and I tell everyone here that my heart and soul are still there. I have been considering moving to Spain and searching for work there. But that is not easy for latinos like myself, even though the latinos may be largest foreign community in Spain. I have been applying for jobs in Spain from here in Brazil, which is where I live, but haven't had any success yet.

This is the big problem in Spain: unemployment. Unless you accept hard work for cheap, of course, or have some skills that locals don't have.

Are you European? If so, it's clear why you wouldn't understand the racial component that exists in the US. But that's ok. If you're from Europe, you wouldn't understand, and you're not expected to.

Hey I just wanted to give you a tip, I'm American but my family is from northern Spain. If you want to improve your accent listen to audiobooks. They have several great audiobooks in Castilian Spanish, they have all of Brandon Sanderson's huge fantasy novels in Castilian, also they have classics like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky and others.. people speak differently when they are reading, they speak more clearly and you hear the vocabulary better..

All of that and may I add... Get a coach to help you with pronunciation. Even a conscientious friend is good. Listening to any audio and make notes of anything that you suspect you many need help with. Also learn the alphabet with the correct pronunciation. That will help a lot also.

As a European it is so strange to me that he mentions his skin colour all the time. We do not have this issue of race in Europe. A nice person is a nice person no matter the race, and he seems a wonderful person. Glad he had a good time! Btw, the race thing reminds me of the American black soldiers that came to Germany during WW2. They were amazed that there was no discrimination here, and many had relationships and married German girls.

Of course there is racism in Europe and to not notice, as a European, seems pretty ignorant to me. What ive noticed though is that different countries have different kinds of racism as they all have different histories.

It is a natural thing to fear the strange and unknown to your society. What I mean is this constant issue with race. Like in this video, how often does he point out he is Afro-American??? That is weird to a European. Same as other Americans always point out they are Italo-Americans, or of German, Irish, French, Chinese or whatever descent. This is totally weird to us, this obsession with race.

I think it has to do with the fact that americans often identify themselves with their skin color categories kind of like other countries identify themselves with their nationality. They often also assume that those categories are universally understood which is a bit strange given the fact that the meanings of the terms changed even in their own history 😂 For example in which people belong to the "white" category
