Idk. I hope the art of the culinary arts isn’t totally all based on mass production and still made with love and care for the dish. @@TristanKuhn I think whats missing with Fairy bread is the context of how its usually delivered. Its a kids desert. A parent will usually makes it for parties (or brought to one as a plate) and they make it like in the morning and it kinda sits around for a while the sprinkles stew in the butter for a while before it comes out for kids to eat. sprinkles turn the butter into a sweet buttery goodness.

A friend of mine who served in the Army mentioned that was one of the things they looked forward to when the American military came out here for training exercises, because there would always be at least one American who would spread vegemite really thick on toast like they spread most of their stuff, and they'd bust a gut laughing at their reaction. On a serious note, a recipe another friend of mine swore by was toast, butter and a scrape of vegemite, then lay a slice of cheddar cheese on it - cut from a block, pre-packaged singles are way too oily - and put it under a grill for a few minutes. Grilled cheese with vegemite on toast - really good.

Problem with Vegemite for 1st timers is that its a mind over matter thing. U look @ it and immediately think of it as a sweet condiment like chocolate so your mind has already been made up. Then u taste it and its anything but and it aint pleasant. But if u think of it s savory from the get go along the lines of pate u can best adjust to the taste. And once u get it it magically transforms to a delicious savory spread . Have friends who lived in New York for many years and they brought in Vegemite from Australia they missed it that much! haha

A way to distinguish the different forms if Vegemite on bread/toast, is what my family and I call Vegemite and Buttermite. Vegemite toast/bread is my brother - lather it on, usually with no butter, and die from too much salt intake. Buttermite toast/bread, is the much better, beautiful combination of lots of butter and a little Vegemite.

(If you think of it in 4/4 time, then the emphasis is on the first and third beats, (the third is not quite as strong as the first) and the second and fourth beats are weak). On the other hand, you did get to the correct answer - Caramello Koalas are delicious. You need to try a peppermint Freddo Frog.

I've known people from all over the world who say that Australian milk chocolate is better than Swiss, Belgian, English AND American milk chocolate. One trick with Tim Tams is the 'tim tam straw' where you bite off a small corner at both ends of the biscuit; you then dip one corner of the biscuit in your cup of tea or coffee, and suck on the end nearest you - like a straw. The coffee goes through the biscuit, making it soft. Pop the biscuit in your mouth and it will dissolve instantly, creating a warm, chocolatey meltdown: a much loved Australian treat. Fairy Bread is only eaten by children, usually at birthday parties. It;s not surprising that you didn't like it :-) Regarding meat pies... the recipes differ from shop to shop. Consequently, most Australians have a favourite pie from a specific outlet. Vegemite is a by-product of the beer making process. That's how it was discovered. Your friend telling you to put a lot of it on was a bit pointless. The more butter than vegemite rule is right. FInally, Kangaroo is not that gamey but it's not a universal meat for Australians; most preferring the usual beef, pork, lamb and chicken. Good video though :-)

If you ever try vegemite again try it on some Arnott's Vita-Weat crispbread either the 9 grain or original (from woolies) get 2 crispbreads put butter on one and vegemite on the other and put them together, like with bread put more butter then vegemite you will know you have enough on them when the butter and veggie starts coming through the holes when you stick them together (best part lol) my favourite way to have vegemite.

Tim Tams: are best had at 3am when you have been on the piss all night. Bite off opposite corners and suck port wine or muscat through then chomp the Tim Tam down in one go. Vegemite: I use it in stews, soups and on toast with eggs...couldnt live without it. Use sparingly of toast. Roo meat: great in the slow cooker...a bit tough otherwise. Fairybread is a thing served at young kids parties. Adults dont eat them usually. Meat pies: an Aussie staple. Must have with tomato sauce though. Caramello Koalas: fucken awesome..!

The only way to eat a meat pie is hot with bbq sauce on top (or tomato sauce if your that way inclined). My favourite is chease and bacon pie, or potato pie.

Your friend directed you terribly for Vegemite. I mean, I'm not a Vegemite stan, but I know how to eat the damn stuff! Especially for a newbie. 1- Hot Toast (you want the butter to be a bit melty) 2- Loads of butter (like.... tons) 3- Pea-sized amount of Vegemite spread over the butter. 4- (optional) Throw some cheese on that shit and if you really feel like it, shove it under a grill to get it nice and melted. 5- Actually find some semblance of edible content in there. That's the stuff.

You're supposed to heat the meat pie (microwave is good) and put tomato sauce (ketchup) on it, not eat it cold. :) LOL

Ian Grant Spong exactly, it should be like lava on the inside and falling apart at the seams, with the sweet relief of tom sauce at the end of the bite to keep you coming back for more.

Fairy bread is for little kids birthday parties.. We don't eat it as part of our normal diet. The best meat pie is pepper steak... and only buy from a bakery like Goldsteins or a good local bakery not from a supermarket. Vegemite is smeared on so lightly with loads of butter. You need to see the butter still. Literally, that sized jar should last a year for a family of 3 LOL Kangaroo meat is tough ( super high protein / low fat) if you overcook it and your best off trying kanga bangers or mince or burgers. LOL

You should try Lindt for dark chocolate. Tim Tams are also in dark chocolate. When i was young i thought meat pies were they only type of pie. It was weird to see other types. Only Aussies can handle a lot of vegemite.

Yes that is correct. My response was to the comment that was made of not having meat pies in the U.S. I was buying meat pies 🥧 back in 1978, and remember older family members talking about purchasing the product when they were younger.

I feel like there must have been some Dutch people who brought fairy bread to Australia. I'm American (mom's side Dutch and dad's side Mexican. So depending on which side, family dinners had no spice or major spice, lol). I grew up with my mom making rusk (like dry toast) with butter and muisjes. Basically buttered bread with sprinkles. I loved it as a kid. Meat pies... yes. Do we just call the. Pot pies and make them at home? I have spent a good bit of time in the UK and meat pies are ubiquitous there. Vegemite... yes! So delicious and healthy and can be used in place of beef bouillon in a pinch. Kangaroo I had in a favorite bar in Geneva many times. Perfectly seasoned and grilled served with Maggi sweet chili sauce. Perfect accompaniment to a large, frosty 1664. Great videos. Keep them coming!

Get your pies or sausage rolls from a bakery. Preferably one with a good reputation for making them, you will love them even more. So many flavours. Grocery store ones are never as good.

I think first timers like you deffinitly should put only a little bit of veggimite on but I personally like to put a really thick layer so the toast is black.

With the number of Tim Tams in the packet...you may notice they are nearly always the same price per packet and the same size of packet nomatter what flavour they are. At first glance you think, some are better value than others, as some are way more fancy. However....and this is where some marketing guru got a huge bonus....Inside there will be more biscuits for the more boring flavours and less for the more exotic. All cleverly done by making the individual sections of the inner plastic tray have less...or more compartments, (depending on the biscuit). You will find the number of buiscuits printed on the packet but it's VERY small print. Cheeky:)

For fairy bread, you need to use proper butter or margarine, not nuttelex, which I think would spoil the flavour.

Fairy bread is a kids party favorite, my daughter is 15 and still eats it but is getting near the upper age limit. It's vitally important to our national security that no-one outside the country, likes Vegemite. When Americans took over Kraft Foods our national pride was in jeapody but the power and will of Vegemite is so strong that it came back with a vengeance.

Try grilling cheese (Cheddar or Tasty) over the top of your vegemite toast. Or better still slices of avocado. It is a savoury food after all and not a sweet treat.

Fairy bread is a seventies little kids cheap party food. Eat the tim tam properly, it's a straw. Bite off diagonal corners and suck your coffee through it. It never gets old seeing Americans try vegemite. Beginners should start with some tomato on top.

I've seen in a number of these food sampling videos now and many Americans start with the 'sweets' first. Is that the order you eat your normal meals in in the US? I would have thought that eating a sweet item first would mess up your taste buds somewhat.
