In general, while on vacation, I try to eat as local as possible, away from touristic spots. There you often get to know the people and the staff helps you often where you can go best and so on.

And do not forget, around New Year's eve: oliebullen! It is a traditional food of the Netherlands around this time of the year. You can get them with or without raisins, traditionally they are eaten with as those represents the sorrows of the past year and you just swallow and eat them away.

You must try Frikandellen and Friet/Patat Speciaal (Pommes Special). The first one are like meatballs but long. And the second one are thick fries with curry sauce, mayonaise and white onions. *Hmmmmmmmm delicius!*

Some suggestions for the next visit: _Kaassoufflé_ (you should grab 'em from a so-called _muur_ ) and _Oliebollen_ Other than that, you pretty much tried all the good stuff. Funny thing to note: most of the famous dutch foods are snacks and sweets.

You need to try their fried foods. Bitterballen, Kipcorn and all the other stuff (as others before me suggested) Also, if you are at the coast, get yourself some Matjes with fresh onions. Best way to eat fresh fish.

Don't forget to try poffertjes! Mini buckwheat pancakes with butter and sugar. Oh, and the saucijzenbroodje is best when eaten warm ;-)

Yes, poffertjes are great. But since Dana surely grew up with pancakes (the fluffy, thick american style, not the flat ones like Crêpe) and donuts: she might not be so excited about them ..? But nevertheless they are really good

Better to try it on fresh bread with butter. Or let the toast cool first. Hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles) are at their best when eaten cold: then they are more crispy/crunchy. I always store my pack of hagelslag in the fridge.

I live in NRW, so not far away from the border to "Holland", and we have a lot of stuff in our common supermarkets. Like Vla and Hagelslag. Its so delicious. Chocomel is a have to do, after a short 1 day trip

I also live near the border. I go shopping in Eygelshoven often. The Hagelslag is over here too in the same brand as in Holland but they seem to have the dark chocolate 85% cocoa.

I hope that you have fun in the Netherlands ! I live in Germany but very close to the dutch border (10 min), I like to go grocery shopping at AH in the Netherlands because they have a lot of stuff that you can not get in Germany, I ate most of the snacks that you ate in your video but my favorite snack that you have not tried yet would be an appelflappen , and as a kid I liked to eat a frikandel

Hi, you should warm the saucijzenbroodjes in an oven. Stroopwafels are also better when you eat them warm. You can place them on top of a mug filled with hot tea or coffee. Then the caramel/syrup melts.

The saucijzenbrooje looks somewhat like sausage rolls. Sausage rolls are basically some sausage mince wrapped in pastry. Very common in Australia, and now I wonder if they were brought here by Dutch immigrants. Also the toast with sprinkles reminds me a little of a common Aussie children's party food, fairy bread. It's buttered white bread with hundreds and thousands (aka Sprinkles, Nonpareils, Muisjes according to Google - spesifically the sort of sprinkles that are small hard balls of candy) on top.

Mimi Sardinia that's really interesting! Here in the Netherlands you get toast (actually beschuit) with muisjes when you visit a family where a child was born. I think it's a very long-standing tradition, funny that it similarly exists on the other side of the world too :)

There is: Vanille vla, Blanke vla (a more neutral tasting vanilla vla) Chocolate, strawberry, Hopjes (the taste of Hopjes is described as a coffee and caramel flavor) Caramel, several " limited editions" (apple raisin,, "winter vla" "spring vla" etc)

try out a "vla flip". add syrup that you normally mix with water to drink {without mixing with water). inside a glass drinking container. then add yogurt then "vanilla vla" and you drink it with a straw. its like tiny amound of syrup, then small amount of yoghurt and most is vla.

@Stephanie Vincent, in the netherlands we have a law that requires a certain percentage of actual cacao before you can call something chocolate, and even more to call it dark chocolate (35%). That's why our chocolate tastes so good!

Did you really miss to put hagelslag into the vanilla vla? When we went to the netherlands for holidays when i was a child that was what i was most excited about (and the waffles with honey (at least it was honey when i was a child today i saw them in a german supermarket and it was something else), the best for a day at the beach).

I'm surprised you didn't try herring, either raw or pickled. It's my favourite in the Netherlands but then again, I'm Dutch. The American food I like the most is spicy beef jerky. I love it and I wished they would sell that good stuff over here.

The thing is, Sprinkles are made after hagelslag was. Sprinkles were created because a child in the Netherlands requested a chocolate topping, so they got made. Sprinkles originated from Hagelslag.

Breakfast: I can't think of anything more typically Dutch than Brinta, which is shredded whole wheat to which you can add hot or cold milk to make a porridge. Add sugar according to taste.

Actually the lonely bit is a reference that Tonys is fairtrade while the makers feel like other large companies that produce chocolate do so in support of slavery on the Cacoa plantations.That is, these companys paid very little for large amounts of hard labour. Thus Tonys stands alone AGAINST taking advantage of their cocoa farmers.

Tony's Chocolonly is a Dutch company that fights for 100% slave-free chocolate. The goal is mainly aimed at bringing as much slave-free chocolate onto the market as possible. For this, the cocoa itself is purchased from African farmers.

What i am missing in most reactions by dutch people are real dutch things like "balkenbrij" or "arretjescake". Go ahead and try "ewrtensoep" or "Hachee" witch is a kind of stew whe eat with potato's!! Very tasty! I could continu to name a lot more things like that! Hope you have some ideas to try the next time!!

frikandel, kroket, bitterbal, drop, there are so much things. i like the way you call them stroepwafels. you should say stroooop wafels whit a long o not an oe. and yes the saussijzenbroodjes need to be warm.

Hiii im nikki and i come from the netherlands... everithing what you eat is kinda my daily food. The next time you have to trie Rozekoeken Frikandellenbroodje Broodje kroket Boerenkool( this is a real meal) Rookworst( you ate supposed to eat this with the boerenkool. But apart i also nice) Mabye you can google some dutch food bc we have a lot😂😂 I hope you had a nice time❤

I had all of them, bc im a Dutchieee!!! 🇳🇱 My favourite snack is either the stroopwafels or the chocolate bar. Btw hagelslag is something way different than chocolate sprinkles. We also have like chocolate sprinkles to go on your ice cream etc. But they taste way different. Hagelslag had more of a soft touch than chocolate sprinkles.❤️

Warm the stroopwafels, that's even better. Try the salted caramel from tony's chocolonely. I have tried them all cause I live there. you have to try bitterballen

I think you missed the “frikandel speciaal” that is like typical dutch! Also the tony’s chocolonely, you should try it in the caramel sea salt (karamel zeezout) version. Thats the best! And the most popular. Also the tony’s chocolonely is slavery free chocolate, that is why it’s more expensive than other chocolate. Oh and you should try “patatje oorlog” that fries with peanut sauce and mayonnaise (peanut sauce is also typical dutch!) hope you visit holland again!

In the ‘Stroopwafel’ is syrop or how You say that! And the “Vanille vla” is very good, and the “Dubbel vla” is good too! Oh yeah the “Toasted with butter and hagelslag” The Bread does not be always toasted it can be but not always. “Tony chocolony” is very deliciouse!! I am dutch too and i love the food but i love soms food from America too!!! And as You can tell she is very happy to taste al of the food haha i love it. 😊

Also try: herring with onions and pickles kibbeling, I saw you already had those. Dutch cheese, from moderately aged to mature (very punchy, sometimes even crumbling). And 'komijnenkaas' (cummin cheese)

Tony's chocolat is so good because? ... its made by a Belgian in Holland ;-) haha I Always bring Kip Kerry to put on my bread and Hero Cassis lemonade when we go to Holland.
