I also didn’t realize how differently they are prepared by the locals restaurants. I’m craving one right now as I’m typing this out🤪🤤Chowking’s Halo Halo was definitely my fav!
Someone else explained that to me! Well that’s my new favorite fruit in the Philippines.lol. Saba. Now I know why I love turon so much. Except I can’t always find turon at restaurants.
I love that you mixed it. This is why i hate food review channels that feat filipino food. they put filipino dishes thats not ready to eat like pansit,halo-halo, sisig,kare-kare and end up hating it
Yes! So true. It wouldn’t have tasted the same if I didn’t mix it. Gotta do it the right way to get the right flavor. My gawd…do you know how many times I’ve been to Chow King since then?🤭🤣😂I’m obsessed with halo-halo!🤤
Good 😊 Mom Duty Halo -Halo here n Vallejo California is all year long even n winter we still buy Halo -Halo d rice flaky things u were counting s called pinipig enjoy ur stay n my mother country n stay safe always...
Hello neighbor!👋🇺🇸 Is the halo halo there served in a restaurant? What is it called? Yes, the rice flaky things reminded me of either rice krispy or corn flakes. Super good added texture👌🤤
Love how you and the kids are adapting the cultures more and more! Thank you Ocampo family for loving the Philippines!❤ Wow, extending another month!! I cannot wait for more videos. You guys should be introduced in a big stage like a family commercial or be in a big network show in the Philippines.
Aww thanks Ed! I always appreciate your positive and sweet comments. Gosh, you’re so nice! THANK YOU! And yes…we love it here and can’t seem to leave😭we keep extending.lol. Now we gotta learn Tagalog. I’m picking up a few words here and there but I’d love to speak it fluently.
You should also try BUKO PANDAN, another PINOY dessert. Buko Pandan is a Filipino cold dessert made of jelly cubes, young coconut, and sweetened cream infused with pandan or screwpine flavor with tapioca pearls or sago, kaong, and nata de coco are also commonly added.
Ooooh that sounds good! I love coconut! And my kids like pandan. Is it also a drink type of dessert? Ok….gonna look it up👍Thanks for the recommendation.
I have tasted all halo-halo everywhere I went in the Philippines, Razon’s is the best. Even without Ice cream toppings, Razon’s taste is above the rest with richness of mashed sweetened banana, macapuno (coconut sport) and leche flan. If others don’t put large scoops of ice cream on their halo halo they would not even taste near Razon’s .
Oh that’s what it’s called….macapuno. I could definitely taste the coconut. I was pleasantly surprised by how just a few toppings tasted so well together. I just wished it had more banana and leche flan, to give it more texture. I felt like I was drinking it more than scooping it. But that thin ice though is just right 🤔
Nice! Yup….I agree🤭Something about that ube ice cream that’s got me hooked now. Oh and the saba🍌Just learned the type of banana it was in the halo halo. Sooooo good🤤
Yeah, traditional Halo-Halo is made with "shaved ice" using a manual Ice shaver, like a wood plane shaving a big rectangular block of ice rather than crushed ice. Big difference in ice texture. Usually, a local non-chain restaurant have much better versions than chain restaurants. I can say the same thing about all Filipino dishes. Local Carinderias usually have that home made touch which chain restaurants tend to lack.
Ahhhh that totally makes sense! You can totally tell the difference based solely on just the shaved ice. Razon’s shaved ice was perfect! 10 out of 10! I wish Chowking could have finer shaved ice. It would make a huge difference when eating it.
Tbh, my favourite ingredient on the Halo Halo is just the tiny sweetened red bean. I can have Halo Halo with just that. And the great thing about making your own Halo Halo at home is that you can customise it and just buy the ingredients you want and put them in there.👍
Ahhhh yes, I can see why the red bean is your fav ingredient. I didn’t think I was going to enjoy that one but the consistency with everything else is so good. Yea, someone else mentioned making it at home. Definitely gonna challenge myself to do that. I wanted to try the jackfruit. I heard it’s in some halo halos. But none of the ones I tried had it.
I’m obsessed with the ice!lol. But i really love the banana chunks and coconut. I couldn’t believe it! I surprised myself with how good the texture of the banana tasted👌🤤
Wow! Proud of your halo-halo achievement. Since you mentioned Mexico, there is actually a close connection between Philippines and Mexico dating back to the Spanish galleon trade route from Manila to Acapulco. There is a large Mexican population with Filipino heritage specially along the coastlines of Mexico. There is a book about this titled “ Manila Men in the New World” sub-titled “ Filipino Migration to Mexico and the Americas from the Sixteenth Century” by Floro L. Mercene. Love your vlogs.👍🏼❤️
Haha! Thank you Lem! I couldn’t believe I went from zero to 3 halo halo’s in one day🤭I’m not mad about it either. It’s so good!!!!!! Now I get my husband’s obsession😆Oh thank you for that book title. Sounds very interesting. Great way to learn about my heritage and it’s relationship to the Philippines 🇵🇭❤️🇲🇽
Not so long ago halo-halo was a hot summer desserts fad found just in front of someone else house or garage. Until the big fast food business companies included it in their menus or desserts choices. Ice cream toppings wasnt included before because it was an expensive item then. Halo-halo has basically two meanings. (1) "Halo-halo" means variety or mixed of ingredients and the other meaning is (2)"stir-stir". The stirring motion with your spoon either circling motion or the pulling up from the bottom the other ingrideints bundled below.
This is soooo helpful! Wow thanks for sharing! Had no idea what’s how it started. I’m just glad that halo halo has become so popular. I normally would never eat a dessert like this but now I’m obsessed🤣I usually like to til-til cookies in my coffee.lol.
Thanks for keeping an open mind about our favorite Halo-halo. Kuya J has the same fine shaved ice that you like. I’d add one more “fine shaved-ice” halo-halo at Goto Tendon. It comes in three variants but the one I really like is a “salted-egg ube” version.
Yes, of course! I can’t believe I’ve never tried it. Especially after being married to a Filipino🙈Now I just feel bad.Lol. Kuya J has the same ice as Razon’s? Ok I’m going there next then. You don’t have to tell me twice. Wait what? “Salted egg ube” ??? Oh my gosh….can’t wait to ask Nelvine about it. I’m going to check if it’s near us. Thanks for the recommendation.
I just looked up what carabao is🙈Thank you for teaching me. I had no idea! Well maybe that’s why it’s not too sweet. It’s perfectly sweet and not overbearing.
Some halohalo has jackfruit(langka), and red mongo. During my teenage days (high school) we have this scramble with different flavors like mango, buko, and pineapple. Enjoy your vacation, stay safe and God bless.
Haha. Love hearing about the good ol’ days☺️I was looking for jackfruit. But none of the halo halo had it in them. I wonder if it changes depending on the availability of the fruit season 🤔 Either way….halo halo is pretty good.
Oh my goodness I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing. So is saging na saba like plantain? I’m obsessed with turon. The banana here is much sweeter, richer and way more delicious than the regular bananas I’m used to.
@@MomDuty Yes, it's like plantain but saba is chewy and sweet. It's one of the favorite snacks of Filipinos - banana-cue (fried and coated with caramelized sugar skewered on stick) and in southern part of the Philippines they usually boiled or grilled them.
😲Ok now you’re just making me hungry😆My mouth is watering as I read your message🤤Can I just order it like that or is it usually in a dessert like Turon?
Thank you for being here Irvin🫶Appreciate it! Yes our families got together and had the best time in BGC. Can’t wait for all of to share our vlogs. We had the BEST time!
You walked a lot like a miles so don’t worry about the calories because the weather and the walking that makes you loose weights. Just make sure to drink lots of water. ♥️♥️♥️
Haha.Yes! We ended up walking 6 miles that day so I didn’t feel too guilty. But lemme tell ya☝️I was out of breath the entire time.lol🥵🤣Ok….lots of water! Got it! Thank you Mae, you’re so sweet.
It’s funny because people either love it or don’t recommend it.lol. I’ve heard both sides. Buy online, the reviews are great! That’s why I added Kuya J to my halo halo poll. Now I just want to try it out of curiosity🤭🤤👍
Yeah! To me, the best Halo Halo is the one I ordered from a street vendor somewhere in Quiapo. Now, I can't find that old lady anymore, I hope that she is OK. Maybe the reason I cannot find her is that I am looking for her in the wrong places...I usually get lost when I go to Quiapo. I am "Navigationally Challenged"......if such a phrase exists. So, If I want to eat Halo Halo, I go to either Chowking or Mang Inasal. The Halo Halo from the Manila Peninsula is also delicious. But the one from the old Grandma Vendor is still the best to me. I will look for her this weekend...this time...I will ask around. If I see her again, I will buy another of her Halo Halo and I am planning to gift her with something...for the New year. As always, I love your family's videos.
Leo, you are awesome!!! If you find her, please let me know. You’re so funny😂I still haven’t seen any street halo halo vendors. But maybe I should go to Mandaluyong? Chowking’s Halo Halo was soooooo good! Omg cant wait to go back tomorrow. We’re staying near one too🤦♀️lol. I cant believe I’m actually craving it🤤🇵🇭😂
Razon may have fewer ingredients but it was purely milky and the best. Sometimes, simplicity is everything. If you are looking for the best, try THE PENINSULA HOTEL HALO-HALO. That's insanely good. Some bloggers were there 'coz it's sooo good.
@@MomDuty Cool but if you are looking for the best Halo-Halo, try the Peninsula Hotel Halo-Halo. Vloggers usually visit that place 'coz it's so good. The Leche Flan and Ube Ice Cream are superb.
@@MomDuty It's one the most expensive but the once I tried, I must say yes. If you order halo-halo there, you might also try their signature TURON. It's another famous Filipino dessert there. Halo-Halo and Turon in Peninsula Hotel are the best desserts there.
I voted for Razon’s when you did the survey because for me less is more and a lot less sweeter not to mention the texture of the shaved ice they serve.
Yes Manuel! That’s exactly how I felt. It was less sweeter and the ice for me was the best! I wish mine had more banana chunks in it. Tastes so good with the milk and coconut. I’m craving it now🤤🤣
Awww🥹😭That is super kind of you to say🥰I’m really squeezing that hug I’m sending you🫂🤗THANK YOU for the positive comment! Maybe if you stroll high street we’ll see you! I feel like we live on high street🙈😆
You never tried halo halo at Jollibee in the US? Goldilocks or Chowking US also have it. I’m more into the kakanin/dessert such as Sapin sapin, maja blanca, bibinka w/ salted egg, biko and flan. Try them before you head back home. You notice Mexican flan is soft and Filipino flan is more thick and hard?
Nope. Never tried it before. I honestly don’t like milky drinks or heavy toppings desserts. I prefer pastries…. I love to til-til cookies into my coffee🤪There’s Chowking in the US? Oh my gosh….when we go back one day to visit family, I will make sure to look it up. And yes, I noticed the flan texture is different. Almost similar in taste but I can definitely tell the difference. I like both☺️
Sis, how is this your first time trying?! A bit shocked but it’s okay… Lol I was about to say if you didn’t mix it, “best put your flame suit on cause everyone gonna come for you” 😂 Glad you did mix it though… definitely would’ve given Nelvine a hard time also hahaha. Are you guys planning to hit other places? Maybe provinces or other island areas or maybe next time? I know you have plans to visit Japan soon…
I thought same thing as most other commenters… simplicity can be just as good as lots of ingredients. That 3rd location looks good though! I personally like a bit or crispy (like corn flakes), jelly bits (like boba or gulaman), milky, Ube, Leche flan mix… and yes don’t look at the sugar content. Likely have to put in an extra 10k steps the next day 🤪
My brother! How are you? I know I know 🙈I just don’t like milky dessert drinks or desserts with toppings or even ice cream🙉I would rather eat a pastry. I love to til-til a cookie with coffee. Omg I sound old.lol.🙊haha! Halo halo is the opposite of my norm. But somehow all those toppings make it so bomb. I’m in trouble now because there’s a Chowking next to us. Going to go there today🤣
I’m dying rn with your “flame suit”🤣🙈Glad I mixed too. It definitely tastes better when you do. Doesn’t look as pretty but the texture when eating is delish👌I didn’t even eat food all day cuz I was so full from eating 3 halo halos in one day🤣😛🤭
😲Wow! That’s cold. Being a Californian girl, 79 degrees is considered cold to me.lol🥶I would freeze then. Hopefully by March it warms up. I want to see the cherry blossoms 🌸
@@MomDuty no I'm Filipino but I've been to Japan many times, it's wet cold in Japan, it's winter time there, it's snows in some places as well.🤗😊👍and yes it gonna be cold there
@@MomDuty you should go to Okinawa it's less colder, but the cherry blossom in Okinawa the trees turn to pink carnation not white because it's less colder
That is awesome that you’ve been many times! Can you be our Japan tour guide?🤪Gosh you know so much! Yeah we’re planning our itinerary right now. We’re planning on being there for 2 months🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
@@MomDuty unfortunately, you won't find them there. It's just in Davao City. So if you ever find yourselves visiting Davao, you should check them out. I/we can also give you other recommendations. :D Ice Giants offers shaved ice with various toppings and flavors. Like the korean bingsoo. Aling Foping's is a homegrown kiosk that let's you choose which topping to add and to exclude from your halo-halo(since most people have a preference of topping)
Oh my goodness I was totally halo halo wasted!!!lol! 😵💫😵💫😵💫I’ve never drank and eaten so much sugar within a short time frame🤭😂I went from never trying it, to eating 3 different types🙊
Really?!🤣🤭haha! Ube is so good🤤You’re making me hungry now and it’s almost 10pm.lol. No I never tried chè in Vietnam. I’m tellin’ ya, I don’t like sweet drinks or sweets puddings. I can’t handle all the over sweetness. I’d rather have a sweet pastry with black coffee as my dessert. But now Chowking’s halo halo has me addicted😛
Thank you so much I have been scrolling because all the other reactors does not mix it properly like you do and its triggering me that they can't taste it properly
Omg Ethan! I got sugar wasted😵💫 I crashed when we got home.lol. I couldn’t even eat any lunch or dinner. I was full of halo halo🤣The kids and Nelvine surprisingly didn’t eat any of my halo halos.lol. But the next day, they all went to get some🤤So funny.
🇵🇭❤️Why dont you try making your own? You can buy all the ingredients in the grocery store and the cheap ice shaver at the mall. The kids will always be craving for it.
@@MomDuty There are ready-to-eat Halo-halo mix (with macapuno, langka, white beans, munggo beans) in bottles, like Florence, YS, Buenas. Bottled ube like Good Shepherd, Florence, PhilSupreme. Nata de coco is better than the bland Sago and can be bought in bottles or small pouches and leche flan can be bought in wet markets and groceries. As for cheap plastic ice shaver (which can shave ice like Razon's), you can find it in malls like SM. Now if you want to cook your own ingredients, search RU-vid, they are usually boiled in a mixture of water and red sugar, with pandan leaves and vanilla used for the aroma. Dont forget the evaporated milk and white sugar in the Halo halo too.🥳Enjoy.
Really?! Omg you just made my entire year Gina!!!!! I’m so NOT a food vlogger🙈I’m embarrassed of the way I describe food because I’m not a foodie. But when it comes to desserts….I’m your girl😉😝Anyways, I appreciate the encouragement. You just gave me confidence☺️🥰😍
Ok…this is going to be my goal. My kids and Filipino husband will be so impressed! Heck….I will be impressed with myself if I can do it. I actually really like the idea because then I can pick all the toppings I enjoyed eating👌👌👌
# 2 side comment from husband - I believe you will see your subscribers jump in number with your posts from the PH. The Lockwoods were amazed how fast their numbers from their first PH visit jumper. Everyone seem to love the PH. 💗
3 Oct 23 husband saying - hard NO - I like my ice cream NAKED, don't put anything on it. I keep asking my wife and others WHY do you make a mess of your ice cream ? it mixes when it gets to your stomach. Try to find Vanilla ice cream - can't always do that. No corn flakes either, I love my plain ice cream.
Ahhhh ok that makes sense. I loved the old school look and feel of it. Yeah, that ice was blended perfectly with the toppings🤤👌Ok I better stop talking about it because now I’m craving halo halo🤣🤣
