American tries Swedish Candy!
Watch Adri, who's American, try Swedish candy for the first time that Nicho brought from his latest trip to Sweden. We did a blind taste test to add to the element of surprise for her reactions 😂 The assortment of candy ranges from Swedish licorice and Swedish chocolate to more fruity candies. At the end, Adri ranked the candies from her most to least favorite ones.

Swedish fish is definately a thing in Sweden. When "lösgodis" started out. There wasn't as many different kind of treats to choose from and "fiskar" or Swedish fish like you call it in the US was one of the major ones. Then the last 10 or 15 years they have kinda ended up in the shadows cause there is so much new stuff. If you're Swedish and born like 95 and later, then Swedish fish isn't as known.

The only candy on Saturdays thing came about because Swedish dentists noticed people were eating so much candy in like the 60-s or 70-s (I think?) and they were getting a lot of dental problems. They launched a campaign to cut back on the candy eating, especially for kids and the results are ingrained in Swedish culture to this day.

Swedish fish is made in Sweden (by Malaco) but for Export to the US. Pastellfiskar from Lösviktsgodis is close but IIRC the Swedish one uses Beeswax and the other one Carnaubawax (though it was a few years ago I looked into it, so it might have changed now)

why most Swedish people like salty candy and snacks, is most likely because of a longe history of salted meat, bread, fish and so on, to have under the longe and cold winters when food was harder to get by fishing or hunting in the deep snowy lands there for people grow a higher tolerance to salt and also fish was the most common for peoples to eat.

Hi Nicho & Adri ! Salt licorice contains about 70 grams of ammonia per kilogram. According to an EU proposal presented in the spring of 2012, the maximum limit for salmiak in food would be lowered to 3 grams per kilo, which would mean a ban on salt licorice. Food companies, confectionery manufacturers and industry organizations in the Nordic countries have protested against the proposal and in the autumn of 2012 an exception was introduced for salt licorice. Salt licorice will therefore be allowed to remain. Wikipedia. There are studies in animals that show that the substance glycyrrhizinic acid found in licorice can have anticarcinogenic effects, ie cancer prevention properties. According to many connoisseurs, the world's best licorice comes from Calabria in Italy. Sincerely T.

The question should not be why Swedish candy is so salty it is delicious. The question is why all American candy is so sugary? I have tried many American candy and from many nations and Swedish candy is the best. American candy is not even close to the same quality and the chocolate they have over there is like dumpster chocolate compared to Swedish chocolate.
