I think Mickey had a chart hit with this Elvis heard and loved it and so put it in his repertoire.

Elvis was such a clever man . His version was phenominal . He orchestrated and produced the musicians with him to suit his vocal capability . Thankfully . He did an excellent job What Now My Love too. His bandleader , Joe Guercio , said Elvis made life so easy for those working with him . He could tell them exactly the way he wanted each section to perform the music . Clever man .

I believe Mickey’s version is more heartfelt… both are moving and talented and more ‘pure’…. whatever that means.
