6:42 thank you Keb Mo for saying something I thought very few people knew. When I was a kid teaching myself guitar, everyone else I knew only played the songs of the Masters, and was never brave enough to put themselves into their music and create their own artistic voice. The masters didn’t become masters by only playing the music that came before them. They played what came before them, practiced raw technique, and put them selves into all of that to create some thing truly new. And once you have the courage to create something that is a synthesis of what came before you, technique, and your own style then the real fun and the real work begins. Once you have found your own voice, you can take on the challenge of becoming an artist and creating your most authentic art. Besides, if you aren’t creating something new are you really creating anything at all? Real talk.
