cbs arent meant to go forwards. im certain he hasnt got more than 2 goals from open play. ramos got all his goals from set pieces and pens as he took pens for a while
@@kingdomloco do you know what open play is mate. He took pens for Madrid after Ronaldo left so he got quite a few goals from that. All his other goals came from free kicks/ corners
@@ericrodrigues1600 exactly. I fully agree. Defenders aren’t meant to go forward bc it leaves spaces that can be exploited. It is still very impressive for a defender to get that many goals, but only 2 are open play. Rest and pens, headers and set pieces
defensive stats are tackles, interceptions, aeriel duels won, and physical duels won, blocks, those are the key ones, then ofcourse there is passes e.t.c

Footballs so tactical with so many players playing on such a large space for so long that stats come into it much less than basketball for example but for reference, for a defender like Ramos you'd look at tackles, interceptions, clearances, clean sheets (the other team not scoring), duels won, aerial duels won, etc. (Compred to a striker where you'd look at shots on target, goals, runs made, how many times you take on a player etc.) Football is more about the eye test and then using stats to back that up. and it's not all about scoring. In a team of 11 players, normally 1 or MAX 2 players are SPECIFICALLY tasked with scoring goals - the striker/s or the striker and 1/2 wingers but anyone can score.

Why americans care about stats? Good stats doesn't mean good player. For example benteke has more goals than cantona and if you know football you'll know that cantona is one of the best players to play in the Premier League while benteke is below average. It's not all about stats. You can see who's good and who's not just by watching them play

well it depends on the skills of the defender and you don't just kick the ball out to a random place you are meant to pass the ball out to someone whos away from the people trying to tackle you
