Miriam Margolyes is one of our greatest character actors here in the UK. She has had a very long theatre career. Saw her on stage in Dickens' Women a few years ago where she did most of Dickens' female characters. Great night. She is not a comedian, she is intelligent, witty and sharp with a profound education, and she speaks her mind (thank heavens that mind is educated). She is a breath of fresh air in a PR-scripted actor-celebrity world, where everyone bores us to death with stories of their families and their kids, and innocuous canned 'humour'.
Hiya lads. Thanks for taking the time, top job. It may be difficult at times trying to decipher and translate the humour from a foreign land. But when you get it....deep joy. Humour, what a planetary medicine. Let's try exchanging humour over aggression perhaps. Sport even as a sub for missiles ,let's get imaginative. I get a little bit of joy watching you blokes having a giggle tbf so thanks for that. 😉👏👏👏
Miriam’s a regular on the Graham Norton show, I thought this video would’ve had the parts from when Mathew Perry was a guest. Stanley’s face was a picture, but if you take it as a marker, wait until you see the absolute shocked look on Perry’s face from Miriam’s story on that GN show.
These clips all from one Norton show - she has quite a few appearances and she has a lot of wild stories - I like the Norton appearance when she was on with Will I Am - she is hilarious - a legend - I think there is some compilation videos of her multiple appearances
Re a straight person being better at portraying a gay person was probably reference to the great 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada, where Stanley played a gay clothing designer /expert for the magazine. Love Stanley Tucci (as a straight 60 something Irishman living in London). He lives here now. Apart from Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway also starring, my favourite performace was by Emily Blunt as the main / original PA to Streep. who was a little bitchy to Anne and overstressed but a great character to play. Stanley Tucci married Emily Blunt's sister in 2012.
I love Miriam Margolyes. Please will you react to all of her appearances on Graham Norton? I absolutely agree with you about Jimmy Carr - anytime I see him appearing in any show I watch it because I know he's just going to make it hilarious.
There is more language censorship on US TV talk shows re swearing etc. Hence Stanley Tucci's comment about being on a GN show that actually makes it to air. Generally the US has always been more uptight about sexual content than the UK, since the 1950s at least.
Please show respect to who you are highlighting by learning how to say them name properly. It's the least you can do considering you are making money off of them.
Miriam M had a good career but the work doesn’t come so easily as you get older. IMO she has found that the more foul mouthed she is the more she gets asked onto panel shows. Each story therefore has to be more outrageous than the last. She is a very good narrator and I’d like her to stop cheapening her act and thereby making her legacy one of a potty mouth and not the very good actress and narrator which she is, but which will be forgotten.
You’re obviously not Australian- she has several lovely & successful travel series here where she meets lots of different people & asks them about their lives & experiences. She is extremely popular here, esp since she got Australian citizenship around 10 years ago.
