Dunny is an abbreviation. It has its roots in cockney rhyming slang. Dunedoo is a town and rhymes with poo, and in typical Aussie style is shortened to dunny. A lot of Aussie slang developed this way.

I don't know why people think Adelaide is boring. Actually take some indicative and find things to do. Adelaide is the festive state. Go during the fringe because there is so much shit on then, go visit the wineries, kangaroo island. And honestly it's a nice city to settle down in. It's not so hectic too.

Great video mate. I'm an Australian. I use all the slang words that you covered in your video except for dunny. Dunny isn't used as much in the major cities anymore. Younger Australians tend to use the word bathroom now while older people still say toilet. Another extremely common slang word is servo which means service station (gas station). Yep we all say maccas a lot. The Adelaide accent is probably a little more refined than the Melbourne accent is where I am from. The accent in the outback (rural area) is very heavy and probably harder to understand.

I’ve never called or referred to anyone as a bogan. Esky which I use, is the brand name of a portable cooler. I use the word Petrol station for your Gas station. I don’t have a hoody in any of my knitted cardigans. And I’ve never used the word Dunny . I must admit I do bung on quiet a bit of slang to my American friends on line, for fun - we all end up in hysterics. It took me 10 minutes of laughter trying to explain Tracky Dacks to my dear American friend 😂

Hi James! I had heard servo and brekie and dunny and jumper before. I forgot I had heard arvo before. Thanks for explaining a bogan! I had not heard of the others and didn't guess them right (maccas, ... oof- if there were more than seven they're gone!) Oh! Not bad, I cheated and saw your list. I only forgot eski. That one I originally thought of a jet ski, but cooler makes sense because of the Igloo brand coolers!

I did have a bigger list with me, but I only chose to do just those because the video would have been too long. And it’s already long as is lol. I actually tried to explain what a Bogan is in another comment but the comment kept getting deleted for some reason, but at least you know now haha. Dunny is just toilet not bathroom it could be in the bathroom lol. In reality it originally meant outback dunny google that has some great images. Before indoor plumbing dunnies were in outback that is in the yard.
