York born and bred here. Thank you for visiting our corner of the world. York's actually pretty lively on a night and there's TONS of pubs and bars, but to the uninitiated I can imagine they might appear to be sneakily tucked away down medieval alleyways!

The buildings with the overhangs were built that way because the square footage on the ground was expensive - so they built the upper floors wider to create more living space - some buildings are so close to those opposite that they could almost touch each other out the window - love York 🇬🇧 I think the little hiccups with the bank and train station make the visits more memorable - you'll look back and laugh in the future - hopefully 🙄😆

Yes the original plots were laid out by the Vikings, and as each house was replaced over the centuries that had to stay within those plot boundaries so as they got wealthier they built out the "jetties" over the road for more space (and up as well)

You sound like a doll Helena ! I hope that isn't sexist in our P.C world, but today it difficult to show affection. I'll get to my point. Amsterdam had the same rules, grand houses were built on the site your average back to back terrace would cover. They all have hoists and ropes so you furnish your new tall but slim home, that said , a lot said screw that and lived on boats. York didn't get that tall thanks be to God. Anyhow, kind regards Martin.

As a European who is entitled to 6 weeks paid holiday a year and enjoys watching your VLOG, I find it very strange how you Americans have to rush through England. I think that a month's vacation would bring you more. Still, you rejoice like little children who have never been away from home. I liked that. Europeans travel to other countries every year. I hope you will imitate us sometime. 🥰
@tonys1636

Americans are often lucky if they get 2 weeks leave a year, actually being paid leave a bonus. Having been self employed most of my working life, being able to have a holiday and not have it cost over twice the price of it would have been bliss. The children would have loved more than a week camping in Devon or Dorset. The Wife was in the same position, not working, not earning. Did manage a week in France and a week in the Channel Islands a few times.

Why you thought the route was 'prettier' - the most scenic part of the East Coast rail line from London to Edinburgh is the Northern half. As in you get fabulous views of the North Sea from the train, from quite close and high at times, as you saw and commented. And it is distinctly more hilly and interesting when you get to Scotland. You just missed out -- so far anyway -- the flatter, less scenic part, and without views of the sea - York to London. Disclosure: I am Scottish so may be biased, but I am actually just being realistic. Durham Castle and Cathedral is very impressive to see from the train, even just in passing, as I recall.

Just imagine if someone from the UK went on holiday to America but did no research other than tick off a list of places so we could say we'd been there. Alike a tourist bingo. Imagine if you knew a place had loads of great things to see and do, but because I was not *from* there, we did none of those wonderful things, and just spent our time ambling aimlessly about, because we hadn't done any research beforehand. I bet you'd feel frustrated and exasperated with us because our attitude was: Been there, tick......been there, tick, with a list of place names all ticked off so they went back to the UK as ignorant of the local food, the customs, the history, as before we'd come to America. That's sort of how I felt when I heard Ethan say, that he was disappointed because all there was was a bit of a wall. He wasn't in awe of a wall which protected kings of England 1000 years ago, before America was even a place anyone knew about. He didn't seem to know about the museum with 2 streets inside with shops you can go into, the ancient Minster with the Roman camp underneath it, or the Yorvik centre which no visitor to York should miss if they visit or any of the other loads of great things to see and do. Perhaps you both thought that the UK was a vast theme park with something to see and do 24 hours a day every couple of yards?

Are you guys still in York? There are so many things to see and do in this beautiful city. If you are still here may I suggest a few things you could check out before leaving. York Minster, Jorvik Viking Centre, Chocolate Story, Castle Museum, York Dungeon, Ghost walk tour, riverside walk (better than the boat in my opinion) and the skybar in Malmaison hotel giving fabulous views of the city. Clifford’s tower is also worth seeing but probably wouldn’t bother going inside. (However I haven’t seen the new updates so it might be more interesting now). Lots of tourists also enjoy visiting Betty’s to experience English afternoon tea. Fish & chips are 1000 times better from a proper fish & chip shop. Pub fish and chips taste very different. Enjoy your stay 😃

After trying to find a place to park in Canterbury -- and ending up on the other side of town from the cathedral -- I made it a policy of finding a park and ride outside of town and taking the bus to the sights. It worked pretty well. But in York I was able to park right outside the walls and walked into the city center.

There are only 5 oceans on Earth : Pacific,Atlantic,Indian, Arctic and Southern. Some seas such as the Mediterranean, Red Sea, the South China Sea and the North Sea have as much history as any ocean. There was an American Vlogger who kept on referring to the Mediterranean/Adriatic as the ocean and drove all his non-American followers nuts. Americans have oceans on each coast but I hope they don't refer to the Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico as" the ocean".

Anyone with a while to spare from anywhere in the world, I reckon, should not go far wrong in adding the city of Lincoln to their sojourns hither. You`ll notice Lincoln approaching from its south ( London ) since there`s a fucking great big Cathedral atop a hill built a thousand years ago. This is only my attempt at wit, so take no notice and avoid Lincoln.

Hi guys, l have to say sorry about your treatment whilst using the trains!! At the moment the government have taken back , one of the service companies and Virgin Train service as gone back too LNER as it's not working with the private sector.Many people want it to be re Nationalised( goverment owned and run) Next time l would use the App trainline. Changes of platforms and having to get yourself and luggage across to another platform ,can be a workout on it's own and it's been like that as far back as l can remember. The train tickets are expensive and confusing because of all the train companies running it !! The 2nd Apology is for the Bank not having "cash" Next time you could try a Post office or a large Sainsbury's Supermarket store. I hope your experiences haven't put you off from visiting us in the future?!

Mrs America should take charge more and punch Mr America in the family jewels more, as I find Mrs America is more concise. However, I love your RU-vid videos so don't let me put you off doing them. I have never been to York, but I know it is steeped in history going back thousands of years. History with English, Anglo Saxons, Vikings and even some Scottish stuff.
