making tea in the UK is roughly twice as fast due to the kettle running faster because the UK uses 220V output from our plug sockets compared to the US output of 120v causing faster boiling times

Put your teabag in a mug, pour freshly boiled water onto the teabag, up to 80 to 85% full, leave it to steep for a minute, add cold milk in. You can take the teabag out, or leave it in for a stronger brew. Optionally add sugar to taste. If you are using a teapot (not in an electric kettle), you can warm the pot first by swilling it with hot water, tip out, add the teabag and freshly boiled water. Pour the tea in a cup and add milk into the cup. If you have english style cookie biscuits, try dippjng them into the tea for a second, the lift out and eat the soggy result. Brits love doing this.

Guys this is HILARIOUS! Like a couple of toddlers at kindergarten doing a simple science experiment. Making a cup of tea should take approximately 5 minutes from start to finish. ONLY USE THE KETTLE FOR BOILING WATER!!! Pace your T bag into the cup then pour the boiled water into the cup. In the UK folks here drink Tea in the way you guys drink coffee at various points throughout the day- breakfast, mid morning break, lunch, afternoon T break dinner/tea and supper time. Most people would have a cup of tea and a biscuit.

I recommend trying different strengths of tea i.e. leave the teabag in the CUP for different amounts of time, and different amount of milk until you find what you like best. Here in the UK, people's tea preference vary HUGELY, from so weak we would say the tea bag was "just waved over the cup" to so strong - often referred to as 'builders tea' - that we say "the spoon could stand up in it on its own". Biscuits (cookies) just aren't the same with coffee, tea was made for biscuits (or biscuits with tea) ! As for travel - yes, Ireland or Iceland which is like no other place.

Since moving to Türkiye I find that I drink more tea than I did in the UK. Turkish tea is served in glasses and without milk. Most Turks take sugar, but I have it without. Generally Turks use a two part vessel for making tea. The larger lower vessel is the kettle for boiling the water, on top of that is the teapot. The tea is made very strong but can be diluted to taste with the hot water from the kettle. I nearly fainted when you queried putting tea bags in the kettle! Phew thank goodness we dodged that bullet. 🤣 Yes different teas do have different tastes (depending on the blends of tea leaves used) I actually take my tea quite weak by most people's standards. The longer you leave the bag in the cup or squeeze out the bag the more tannins are released which makes your mouth drier in my opinion. Also the milk (e.g semi or full cream affects the taste too) I much prefer tea made in a teapot but I know on a day by day basis most of my fellow Brits probably don't bother with that! Keep going you'll make a tea pro yet! 😁

1. Electric kettles will turn off automatically when they get to temperature so there’s no guess work. They normally do something called “over boil” so they boil for a little while before turning off. For most black tea you want it boiling. Green teas want something around 80-90 centigrade. 2. Putting sugar or milk in before tea has brewed to taste actually stops the brewing being as effective. For one, milk cools the water. But when using tea bags, both milk and sugar make the bag less permeable so brewing is harder. 3. If you’re a vegan, oat milk is surprisingly nice in tea. 4. One of my Australian friends swears by biting the ends off the Tim Tam and then “sucking” the tea up through it. Personally I’ll just dunk haha.

Hi Joel, I have been working on the best cuppa for a while now. Here is the method that I think brings out the best flavour. 1. In a mug, add 2 teaspoons of sugar and a tea bag, "yorkshire tea" is my recommended brand. 2. Discard any old water in the kettle and half fill it with fresh water, this is because old water has lost it's oxygen which is no good for making tea. Turn on the kettle and take off the boil when the kettle has entered into a rolling boil. Over boiling the water deoxygenates it and will also scold the tea. Pour the water into the mug up to about 2/3 of the way up. 3. Don't stir, leave for 4 minutes exactly, use a timer 4. Remove the tea bag. You may press gently to release some excess water from the bag and a bit more flavour, but dont overdo it, as pressing or squeezing too much will release the bitter tannins. 5. Top up the rest of the mug with milk, leaving just enough from the top that you don't over spill. Stir well and enjoy a perfectly brewed cuppa that isn't too hot to drink! This method also adds a certain creamy quality to the tea which is most pleasant. Enjoy

Tea and biscuits on a cold afternoon after a brisk chilly walk - ooooohhhhh boy! You've got it! Next trip.... I'd say be guided by a) cheapest flights/travel b) places where you've friends who can put you up or show you around (you get a better feel for a place with a local guide, even if you're only in a place for a coupla days). That's how I picked where to go when I was a student/skint. There are always more places to go and explore and a whole life ahead of ya so when you're money poor and time rich like when you're studying think that's a good way to decide where to go first.

As a person stricken with age (72 in November), I still think it's a bit weird to make tea directly into a mug. We still use a tea pot. Put the tea bags into the pot and pour your boiling water into that, wait 5 to six minutes, milk the cups and pour the tea into the cups. No messing about trying to get the bags out of a very hot cup, potentially very dangerous. Anyway I'm glad you are still enjoying the experience of cups of tea.

Steve, like you I prefer my tea from the pot. It always tastes better as it allows it to brew and to cool slightly and it has a depth of flavour that you cannot get from the bag in the cup. If you are making tea for more than one person it is easy to use a teapot. I do like a china cup but it does go colder quicker than using a heavy ceramic cup/mug.

Greetings from Perth Australia on the West coast. Joel, you really need to try the Tim Tam Slam!!! What you do is bite a little bit off the corner on one end of the TimTam. Then you bite a similar amount off the corner on the opposite end. So a bit off the left end and a bite off the right end opposite corner. Then you dunk the TimTam in the tea or coffee and suck the tea/coffee thru the TimTam while its in the drink. Do this fairly quickly. It turns the center of the biscuit a bit melted. Its beautiful. As for TimTams... there are so many great flavours. My favourite was salted caramel TimTams! :)

Bite a small corner off opposite ends of a Tim Tam, put one end in the tea or coffee and then suck the creamy inside out from the other end. You get the mixture of the beverage and the biscuit. A little tip for you Joel to maintain you’re electric kettle. Use Distilled White Vinegar to naturally descale it. Pouring just over half way, but not too much, or too little because when white distilled vinegar is boiled, the acidity will overflow and come out of the spout. Also, when it boils leave the boiled white distilled vinegar inside the electric kettle for at least 45 mins, before emptying it into you’re kitchen sink. It really does work at naturally descaling you’re kettle, without using harsh chemicals. However, if you don’t descale it, limescale will build up, clogging the filter inside the electric kettle. And if limescale builds up, it will end up in your tea, when you pour it, floating on top. So it’s worth the effort. Plus, if you don’t descale you’re electric kettle regularly, the electric kettle has to work a lot harder to boil up the cold water efficiently, using more energy. In the U.K. we have a Cost of living crisis right now, especially, with the rising costs in gas and electricity usage in our homes. And because of that, I no longer use my electric kettle, opting instead to use my Gas kettle on the gas hob instead, which is a lot cheaper. By the way, just let you’re electric kettle boil up on its own, without opening the lid because it will turn itself off when the boiled water inside the kettle triggers the switch. :)

All four of you need to learn the most important thing when it comes to using an electric kettle and it's PATIENCE. Also, Joel, it's known as a kettle and NOT a tea kettle as you wrongly described it, i.e. it's to boil water so that the water can be used for any purpose and not just for making tea. As we all saw you kept on opening and closing the lid while the kettle was still boiling the water which delays the process....once the water's boiled it'll switch itself off automatically, in other words the switch with the blue light will flick itself off and the light will go out. That's the beauty of having an automatic electric kettle because you don't have to stand around hovering over it while it's doing its job - you can go off and do other things and then return to it safe in the knowledge that the water's boiled. Personally speaking if I boil a kettle then I let it stand for about 15 seconds or so just so that the water can stop 'rolling' and it cools down slightly before pouring it onto either a teabag or whatever else I'm preparing. A word of warning to any of you is to NEVER try to put your electric kettle on top of your gas cooker in order to speed up the process because that can be disastrous. It's not as if this hasn't happened before because one of my neighbours did this quite some time ago and the fire brigade had to be called out to extinguish the major fire that he created when he did this. We forgave him for this catastrophe because he was on medication at the time for his heart condition and it completely addled his brain and he forgot himself. Fortunately for him and the rest of us he's okay and his G.P. has since reduced the strength of his medication plus we all look out for him and his welfare which is obviously the neighbourly thing for us to do, isn't it? Incidentally, those Tim Tams that you and Will were eating look like Penguins ( not the flightless birds but the biscuits that we get here in the U.K. ) and the only difference between them seems to be their smaller size and the fact that they're not individually wrapped like our Penguins. This makes me wonder whether or not you two tried Penguins ( not the flightless birds but the biccies ) while you were on this side of the 'Pond'? My suggestions for you all if you venture over here again is to stay for a lot longer than a week ( two to three weeks would be much better ) and you start off in Ireland and then go to Wales, the northwest of England especially to Liverpool and Manchester. Finally you should all go down to Cornwall and Devon - they're two of the most beautiful counties in England and you'd have no problem getting clotted cream in either of them, the same obviously goes for Cornish pasties....better to get them from that part of the country where they originated from rather than from the rest of the U.K., isn't it? Good luck to all of you in your new home. ✌😎✌🇬🇧🇺🇸

Only boil water in the kettle! Make sure the element (the bit at the bottom inside the kettle that actually boils the water) is covered in water at a minimum. It'll otherwise burn and break the kettle And on the other side, don't over fill the kettle. It'll make the kettle leak and you'll find the kettle boiling in a pool of water Keep the lid closed when boiling water. Not sure if you ever get frost on your car during the winter where you live/study, but never boil a kettle and pour over the windscreen to de-frost a car window!! The window will crack.
