My uncle was stationed at Pearl Harbor as he served in the Navy. Fortunately he left Pearl Harbor one week before the attack as he was being trained in a weaponry training as he became a ship gunman. He had a good record for his accuracy at shooting down Japanese fighter Planes ✈️ to include Kamikazes. At the end of the war my uncle returned home to the Appalachian mountains of NC. He eventually bought two Navy surplus Jeeps and gave his many nieces and nephews rides in his jeep on the many acre’s my beloved Grandfather owned.

In January of 1940 a P-38 flew at a spd of 420mph, the fastest fighter in the world. The P-38s were used as West Coast air defence filters in early 1941. Some say late 1940. After Midway they were released to the Pacific Theater .

The mosquito was a better plane.

@@watkinsrorythe Mosquito was an awesome warplane, certainly as fast as a P-38, but designed for a different purpose. In a straight up dogfight, the P-38 would probably win, but as a fighter-bomber, the Mosquito was better. Over the vast Pacific, the P-38 was arguably the best fighter of that theater, due to its very long range, overall characteristics and 2 engine reliability. The highest scoring American aces of the war flew P38s. Both planes were effective bomber and transport killers. The Mosquito was the best night fighter-bomber of the war.

@thenaturalmidsouth9536 Oh, I know that the 38 was a good fighter, but as you say, it was one dimensional, and that was the difference. The mosquito was more versatile and not just a night fighter.

@@watkinsrory 95%9f all Ariel photos taken During WWll in Europe were taken by P-38s, they qwre also used as light bombers carring as much as 2 thousands pounds of bombs.

@@miketrusky476 I very much doubt that 95% of areal photos were taken by them the war had been going on years before the plan was even made. With regards to the bombs the mosquito carried 4000 pounds. Just had a quick google and the mosquito accounted for a very large percentage of photos. Maybe you are referring to the Pacific war not specifically WW2. That I would have no doubts as it was mostly an American show.

@froilanguillermo1009 I see the port island, but the deck looks too small relative to the planes, at least to me. But what do I know? Thanks.
