This really applies to the typical you know what, funny yes but sadly true. give me Hitler instead of a .. any day. The significantly lesser of two sorts of monsters, bet Hitler was a respectfully quiet neighbour and would've abhorred the long armed noisies too.
Brendan Grace (Father Fintan Stack) was one of my earliest comedy heroes. When I first met him aged 10, my mother remarked how I loved to make people laugh by telling jokes. Brendan looked at me and said “Well one day I might be in the audience enjoying your performances!” While this never happened, the fact he took a few minutes out to inspire a young kid is the reason I will forever love the man. Like all of us across Ireland I was devastated when he died. Thanks For The Memories Brendan.
Funny how things don’t always translate in the US. Fintan Stack is legendary in the UK / Ireland, and after Bishop Brennan is probably everyone’s favourite guest character. Brendan Grace, who played him, was a very famous Irish comedian. When he died, thousands of fans lined the streets along the procession and outside the church where his funeral took place. Interestingly, when he got the role of Father Stack, the original plan was for him to be an even more foul mouthed, aggressive, shoutier version of Father Jack. Grace decided against that and played him as quietly spoken, and almost effeminate, which succeeded in making him even more sinister than was probably originally intended!
Yeah was just going to comment this. His character is one of my favourites, I always crack up watching him. Certain things just don't translate to a US audience.
Brendan Grace (Fr. Stack), was a good singer who - like Billy Connolly - morphed from humorous songs to standup. He was amused/exasperated that he became internationally more famous for about 8 minutes in one episode of 'Father Ted' than for 45 years of club and stage performance.
I remember an interview with comedian Brendan Grace who played Stack. He originally was going to be very angry, with a loud, gruff voice. He did the simpering, sarcastic voice and they went with it! Brendan sadly passed in 2019.
When you get to the "Speed 3" episode, make sure you watch until the very end after the credits, you'll see what is probably the funniest part of the episode!
as a fan of jungle music I feel the need to leave a comment letting everyone know the tracks stack was playing on his boombox. -Limb By Limb (Dj SS Remix) by Cutty Ranks -The Way (The VIP Mix) by DJ Taktix
We're Irish and finally got to do the wild Atlantic way during covid - the house they use for the exteriors on this show is actually along the drive in county Clare!
My mum had a boom box (ghetto blaster) just like the one Fintan Stack had in this episode. She got it for her 21st birthday in 1982 and had it for over 35 years. 📻👌
Brendan Grace, the actor who played Father Fintan Stack in this episode, passed away only four years ago at the age of 68. Ngl, Brendan Grace actually looked and sounded like my history teacher in secondary school (high school)! 😂👍
Honestly after a few times watching over the years father Fintan Stack became the funniest to me with his cartoon like villain personality Many times out loud randomly I love going WOOOOO! Bye girls .....pair of Wankers!
I’m pretty sure there’s a final bit you may have missed after the credits. The scene switches back to St Clobberts after dark, where everyone is asleep and it’s all quiet… then suddenly the silence is broken by the sound of loud jungle music from a boom box.
There's 25 episodes in total. I think my favourite might be coming up next Flight In To Terror. If it is, look out for the writer Graham Linehan who plays Father Gallagher in this episode.
I loved listening to football on the radio as a kid. In fact, I still do. 😂 The noise of the crowd comes through more over radio and, because they're having to describe things in more detail, I enjoy the analysis more. Golf on the radio though? That's a whole new level. 😂😂 I had a neighbour who would play jungle on a boom box into the night so this episode is nostalgic to me. Oh, also, given how much you like comedic violence, you really should watch the whole of Bottom.
That music is some quality “jungle”, a genre of dance that was very popular in the UK in the nineties and would go on to be called “drum and bass”. I’m pretty sure I had that very track on a few mix tapes 😂
The only thing i missed happening, was Father Jack actually confronting the replacement priest physically , the way he usually does. But, overall it was a good result :)
I've been meaning to comment before but did you know that the actors on Rugged Island, Dick Byrne and Co were the 4 actors who came second in the auditions to Ted and Co!?
Some people have never heard of 'Jungle' but it's a proper music genre, and not a loose description. Look up Cutty Ranks and Limb by Limb for Father Stack's favourite song..
Fr Fintan Stack is such a perfectly odious creation. He was played by Brendan Grace, an excellent comedian. The good thing is that the character wasn’t overused. He’s only in that one episode, and for a total of only a few minutes, but my god it’s unforgettable!
Just watched this one, I'd rewatch the Dougal drunken scene again. You'd love it if you watched it fully, Dougal's lines are hilarious. "We're all going to heaven, hurray"
LOL, I'm reminded of the great snooker commentator 'whispering' Ted Lowe's quote. _'...and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green'..._ 🤣 Great commentator, hugely knowledgeable and sadly missed.
@@vallee3140 Honestly, I was 'just' after those days, (born in 78) so my family must have gotten a colour set before my memory of only BW... of course up until at least the early 90's there was always a spare 12" odd BW set hanging around which was _sometimes_ needed if there was something you HAD to watch but noone else had any interest in! Snooker was relatively popular in my house though. So fortunately I don't recall having to watch it on BW! But having said ALL that, I never ever scoff at watching BW film and TV though, I go right back to the very early days and am happy to enjoy it all... Very fond memories of literally rolling on the floor watching Norman Wisdom with my Mum at around 6. 🤣 Probably on a 20" colour TV (not something to be sniffed at back in the mid 80's)! Not that that made any difference with many of his films! But then there are also so so many dramatic performaces that are literally unmissable (IMO) that can ONLY be seen in low res BW, Gregory Peck's performance as Atticus Finch among others in To Kill a Mocking Bird, 12 Angry Men, King Kong and Gaslight among so so many more. It's something of a bugbear of mine that so many great performances/stories/visual art (and indeed audio art) is simply _passed off_ by younger people simply because of the technological restrictions at the time. But maybe it happens no less often nowadays than it did in my own generation or even generations earlier. Hard to tell. I just love art, maybe that's the distinguishing factor, some love 'it' for 'it', some just love its popularity... I might have gone off topic slightly there!
Apparently, everybody else who interviewed for the Father Stack role just tried to out-shout Jack, but Brendan Grace got the role by instead adopting the quietly menacing persona he had in this episode.
That music was UK Jungle Music from the 90's - specifically a remix of Cutty Ranks Limb by Limb.... I've seen a few reactors get "triggered" when they hear a black man singing and Ted mentions Jungle Music - without understanding the context and history.
Ridiculously funny sitcom, certainly in my top 10 if not 5, there are after all so many to choose from. But few are quite as silly as FT, and I'm all about silly! Love that you guys enjoy it so much!
Also in the end credits you see a Father Cantona causing trouble at the sports day. Based on Manchester United striker Eric Cantona who was sent off v Crystal Palace in January 1995. A thug called Matthew Simmond’s ran from the back of the stand to abuse Cantona who kung fu kicked Simmond’s! Cantona was banned for nearly 9 months.
Whilst Craggy Island is indeed fictitious, the shows exteriors are filmed on the mainland. The whole island of Ireland is the 14th largest island in the world. Great Britain is the 8th largest island in the world.
First time I saw this episode back in the 90s, the bit where they shine the torch/flashlight on the crazy old priests..... omg I fell around the room laughing 😂. And then the guy with the posh voice says " I really shouldn't be here"......😂
The horse named as 'Divorce Referendum' is a reference to the referendums on the subject. There were at least 2. Perhaps someone could say how many exactly. It was eventually passed in the 90s with a majority of only about 6,000. "You could be divorced against your will" was one of the arguments against it.
hello, I know the rest of the 'theme song', it goes, Father Ted, Father Ted, whatcha gonna do today Father Ted? spins a web, any size, catches thieves, just like flies, look out, here comes Father Ted lol (using the lyrics melody from the 80's spiderman cartoon)
The music is called jungle music and the M.C is" the ragga twins "👍🇬🇧 in England we have a thing called "jungle on the bike" with dj Dom whiting, thousands of bikes riding through the streets blasting jungle music at the weekend... It's boss ,check it out😄👌 drum and bass on the bike Dom whiting.
14:58: This reminds me of the time my roommate locked his door to his room and was blaring Heavy Metal music on the stereo. He wouldn't answer his door and couldn't hear us knocking. So luckily I went to the fuse box and turned off the power just to his room.
Hi KB I am a fan from England and I have enjoyed your reactions for the last couple of years. English humour is often dry and to the bone. I need to share this with you. A few months ago I was introduced to a series called “INSIDE NO 9”. I had no idea it existed or what to expect but found many of the actors you have enjoyed making a 9 season series of half an hour episodes that will get you hooked after the first. Each episode is individual and there is always a twist. It will play with your mind. A new season has just started. There are many RU-vid discussions about what is the best. For me try 12 days of Christmas The bill Private view Tempting fate The harrowing Regards Gareth from Featherstone West Yorkshire
Totally Random Post. Sorry! For any Commodore Amiga CD32 and PC Dos 90s gamers into myth-like adventure games, at 29:40 it's the same music used in the game The Labyrinth Of Time. I got to the bottom of it about a decade back, the music is from copyright free archive (even back in the early 90s!). I've also heard The Labyrinth Of Time music in Neighbours, oh and Elderscrolls Daggerfall door creak game sound effects in movies too lol
Frank Kelly (Fr Jack) was one of the few in Fr Ted that was an actor, the others were mostly stand up comedians and needed to work harder at learning scripts etc.
My Dad had an Isle of Man TT motorcycle race album. It was essentially an album of s man saying a riders name and the motorbike he was riding and the the sound of a motorcycle whizzing past a microphone. 😂
Oh good Lord! Tomorrow I'll be doing the Queen's jingle together with Ren's Animal Flow's "hook". As if my customers didn't think I was weird enough... Big love (as always) from Spain
Christmas is a bit special here in the uk, normally whatever is popular that year has a Christmas special and a lot of them are on tv on Christmas day so its a common cause of family arguments with people wanting to watch different things but luckily now we can record stuff in a lot of houses or channels are replaying things an hour later. Plus 1 them channels are called
I had a feeling King Boomer would crease up at the sequence of mad priests' faces!! 😂😂 I only wish there were more Christmas episodes of this show - I'm a massive fan of those in general! 'A Christmassy Ted' is definitely in my top 5 episodes, if not higher... You make a good point about Father Stack vs. other problem characters. Whereas Stack is a total asshole, Father Noel (Graham Norton) may be staggeringly annoying _BUT_ he is actually one of the friendliest characters in the series. And then Bishop Brennan and Dick Byrne are kind of assholes, but I think they are more the sort that you "love to hate" and can tolerate on a recurring basis. Next time on _Father Ted:_ A holy journey for the lads and their fellow priests...which could bring them closer to God than they ever expected!
You did it again Boomer, you cut off too soon and missed the final, post credits, gag. This is a trademark of Graham Linehan comedies (this and IT Crowd). Stick around till the very end as he sometimes has a little extra laugh up his sleeve. Also, if you pause, run back 10 seconds rather than picking up where you left off. You missed the impact of two punchlines because you cut the gag in the middle and didn't do a short recap.
This channel's taking off, rightly so. And, once "King Boomer's Daddy Diary, Day 1" starts, one million subs will be guaranteed. I hope Queen Mom will add appropriate observations and commentary about the King's dad performance and reflections. I really hope this idea becomes a thing. It would be such a lot of fun. And pretty unique and special too :)
The fact this series has its own jingle is stellar. Absolutely love these reactions. Ive seen every episode of Father Ted 100 times and they never stop being funny, love seeing these reactions to yall watching them for the first time. Also shout out the Hot Fuzz reaction
