Bring on the backlash. God forbid someone has an honest opinion. Yet we were laughing the entire time, so obviously it is funny, just need more exposure, hence a reaction channel 😌
@@tntreactions I think the language difference is why you may not find our comedy funny as we pronounce things differently here which you would need to understand those differences to understand what the punchline is about
Nah, he's entitled to his opinion. I mean he is wrong, but he's entitled to be wrong... Jk obv, comedy is the same as beauty m8, it's in the eye of the beholder.
How can you not find British comedy funny? That's crazy. We love British comedy here in Holland. Much of the world loves British comedy and music. It's the best in the world👌.
depends which comedians they are watching i have noticed a lot of the americans who hate british comedy are watching the newer politically correct stuff that not even we brits tend to find funny but when you show them al murray, two ronnies, carry on films or monty python they like it.
I love Holland , 30 years ago we had our honeymoon over there and some old guy offers me 5000 Guilders to have sex with my wife! But you live and learn. Take care brother, love from Yorkshire.
As an Australian I find British comedy alot funnier than American it's just different. We both tend to be very dry or use sarcasm and or be ironical in our comedy.
Yeah plus where as Americans tend to stick to tame, boring jokes, you guys in Australia are a bit like us, got to take the jokes as far as we can. I also don't think that the UK and Australia has as big of a cancel culture towards comedians as America does.
Al Murray is playing a character 'The pub landlord' hence the beer pumps. This stereotypical character reflects the men who used to run pubs (called landlords) , who were typically middle aged conservative types, who had a strong (but not always informed) opinion on everything, were very patriotic, and also a traditional view on mens and womens roles. This comedy persona allows him to play off national stereotypes, and show todays world and issues through this narrow, blinkered perspective for comedy effect. Given many of us encountered people with these outlook and world views growing up, its comedy gold when applied to life today. Also his rapport with the audience works well, especially as he spends time getting to know members of the audience at the beginning of his show so he can play off them and interact later as part of the joke and stories. Great fun!
Barbara Windsor "GET AAT OF MY PUB" 😆 Us English use comedy as a sign of affection. If it were anything else we would be bullies. We are way far off and gone from that. You should hear what I call my 90 year old mother and how she retaliates when I visit her. Then we hug and reminisce. I still blame her for me, she must have dropped me multiple times onto my head when I was a baby. "It's not my fault" I keep telling her !
Very well said. Pity you have to explain it for our more sensitive brethren ! If you don't want to have the piss taken out of you spend the 35 quid ticket on a curry. Saw AL a few months back, he was amazing and merciless!!
It's not that our comedy isn't funny, it's that we have a different sense of humour and takes a bit of getting used to but once you understand it you'll love it.
@@paulmurgatroyd6372 Not quite Paul, Australians, New Zealanders, South Africans and many Canadians appreciate it as well. It's down to the humour you were exposed to when young.
Johnny Depp found a British comedy TV sketch show called “The fast show” so funny he contacted them and asked to be in it as himself and showed just how different our comedy is but it was a real gem still funny today.
Al Murray is even funnier once you realise that the man behind the Pub Landlord character is really taking the piss out of how the British take the piss out of foreigners - our unshakeable sense of national superiority, obsession with the past glories of Empire, etc. He's actually a very well-spoken and highly educated man, adopting the stereotypical persona of a working class pub landlord for comedic purposes. That's not even his real accent! A lot of British humour is multilayered in this way, which is why some people from outside the UK don't quite get it and its subtleties. I'd recommend Micky Flannagan as an example of a comedian whose humour is a lot more straightforward and universal. Yet to see any reactors not find Micky hilarious!
We love British humour in Scandinavia, and we usually get it straight away - and then we keep a very low profile, because we can't beat them at their own game 😂
You’ll learn throughout watching him more how smart he is. He studied history at Oxford university. He uses his knowledge of history to twist it into comedy. He’s playing a character called the ‘pub landlord’ hence the beer taps in the background. A very patriotic Brit but also makes jokes out of brits as much as everyone else. He is also great with crowd participation A few video recommendations are: Al Murray- Name a country we have defeated them Al Murray - Why the British are undefeated world war champions Al Murray takes on the nations of the world (a longer one 23 mins but my personal favourite)
Glad you actually enjoyed it and took it for what it is - a great piece of comedy. I have watched other US reactors who either don't laugh or seem to get offended. Well done nice video :)
British comedy is the best in the world. You just have to immerse yourself in it. How do you think we get through the hard times, I'll tell you, with a laugh. Love to you both, Martin.
Being born in England and now living in Arizona for 4 years it took a long time for people to adjust. I grew up watching judd apatow movies like superbad but also British TV like the Inbetweeners which was an exact reality of British teen life. I think we both appreciate each others comedy but in az if I was to banter with someone like we would at home I'd be dead by now!
Did you really say “typically I don’t like British comedy because it’s not funny?!”?…really?! All the comedians we’ve produced and influenced the world with, really?! Wow!
Wait you said you don't think British comedy is funny?...me as an American I think they are the only ones who makes hardcore comedy by making the jokes sound so much more naughtier but in a hysterical way...even their late show hosts act like that.
Well said. Looks like America is going to be just fine. TNT reactions messed up big time. But that is on him. I'm not going to hang that on the whole nation. 🇺🇲👍
His voice, the character, the clothes, the beer is all just part of a character he creates (a typical London pub landlord). In reality he’s a well spoken Oxford educated historian, very smart. As someone else said you have to check out : we have defeated everyone at war. I think there are 2 versions, the one where he has a beard is the best one.
The best advise I can give is learn to laugh at yourself and the stereotypes of peoples groups haha coz if you can’t laugh at yourself then what can laugh at haha great reaction 😂
If you look for Stephen Frys explanation on RU-vid, of the differences in British & American humour, you may get to understand why British humour is more appreciated across the world rather than the American style.
British comedy is the most diverse comedy in the world. Also find it a lot sharper and intelligent than American comedy. I've watched a lot of reaction vids by Americans watching British comedy and half the jokes go over their head. P.S. I'm not British!
Try Al Murray nations of the world. BTW Al Murray has several degrees in History, that’s why he’s able to use it a lot in his comedy routines. It’s the British version of roasting
This is the real deal when it comes to British comedy. Check out all Jobs are terrible... Great reaction, you will love all of Al Murray, he is brilliant and you will learn history too...
I'm not disagreeing with you. But if you know a "conservative" person, you probably won't take them out to see a comedian. So conservative and comedy really don't belong together as most conservative people are what comedy is making fun of. Especially in America. Americans made movies like Bridgette Jones Diaries that are all about the conservative people in Britain being the subject of the humour. Certainly not my "cup of tea". I prefer Australian humour and the British and Irish stuff. I used to like Tom Green. He was very far from conservative. George Carlin was great. Modern American comedy is bad though. Look at what happens when Chris Rock says something actually funny. 🤔 Just like Will Smith, the USA in general has *lost* its sense of humour. That's okay because of the British and others. Izmo from Finland is hilarious. 😂
British comedians don't do not conform. Thank god. They tell the truth. Important in a democracy You may not agree with what they say but would die for their right to say it. Damn, who said that? Slipped my mind lol. .Voltaire, of course!!
He doesn't just have a working bar on stage. That would be something, just on it's own. But that, my friends, is a MOTORIZED bar, that he drove on to the stage from the street.
Every American comedian looks up to British comedy and comedians. And remember that Charlie Chaplin, Bob Hope and even 'Austin Powers' were born in England. I laughed when the lady clearly didn't understand the first 10 minutes of the show but DID manage to notice that there were 4 beer taps on the (fake) bar on stage. Well noticed!
We love Americans, we are the same but different , Al is great he goes along the whole front row and finds out about the people then ridicules them , very funny.
He does a very good satirical British stereotype, what’s really funny is that a decent amount of British people take him at face value, when he’s actively taking the piss out of them.
Not really. Brittish comedy is usually dry, goofy and slapstick. This was the first British comedian I've seen that didn't make silly faces, change the pitch of voice or smash watermelons to get a laugh.
@@tntreactions - You are entitled to your opinion and we should respect that, but I can honestly say that apart from Benny Hill and a few like him, British comedy is far from slapstick and most of the descriptions you make. We all like different things but please don’t use blanket opinions on the whole of British comedy - I sincerely hope you give yourself a chance to enjoy more comedy from this side of the pond.
Al isn't being specifically anti-American, he's picking up on our differences and exaggerating them He does the same with ALL countries, even ours. Also, issues like how the worlds Money men keep on destrying the economy. He was educated at OXFORD University, and is very intelligent, speciallising in world History. Look for his diatribe on who the British have gone to War with
Al. Murray is very intelligent and will astonish you with his knowledge of history. Don't be fooled by his demeanor, he is acting out a character "The Pub Landlord" His videos are a must see.
British Comedy is Unique and not only the best in the world but the most Copied/imitated, in the U.S it's usually revolves a round a household (the house in King of Queens has been used in 6 other sitcoms)
Please Watch Blackadder Goes Forth with a younger Comedian: Hugh ( DR. HOUSE ) Laurie and FLEABAG starring the brilliant Phoebe Waller-Bridge and The original OFFICE with Ricky Gervais or the fabulous Panel Show "Would I Lie To You" (WILTY) and ENJOY:)
@@michaelrudd6041Great Britain? But he was talking about the Moon landing and coming first by yourself. Not that Great Britain has great in the name. And learn to use punctuation!
Some of the best British comedy and comedians are Alan Partridge, Frankie Boyle, Paul Whitehouse, The Mighty Boosh, Sean Lock, Jo Brand, Ricky Gervais, David Mitchell, Frank Skinner, and loads more. A lot of British people I know don't like any of these either... but the smartest ones I know do
How can you say any comedy isn’t funny? It’s subjective. It’s not possible to write off a whole nation’s comedy. You can say you don’t get it, even don’t like it, but you can’t say it’s not funny. Because you’re not the the arbiter of what’s funny in comedy, nor is anyone else.
Brit humor is a dark sarcastic wit full of irony and generally self deprecating...basically we take the piss out anyone and everyone especially ourselves..James hay Murray on stage plays Al Murray as a fictional character The pub landlord as a comedy act who is an exaggerated personality from the past
I cant find a reaction to Simon Evans.. Yet there's a video on here that's one one the best stand up performances ive seen. Similar to this kind of banter.
Try early Billy Connelly, Catherine Tate as Nan, David Mitchell on rant, early Frankie Boyle, any of the Graham Norton talk show clips, Jim Davidson adult Christmas Pantomimes, Kevin Bridges, Lee Evans, Micky McIntre, Rowan Atkinson (aka Mr Bean)... Any of the late night comedian panel shows from "8 out of 10 cats do Countdown" to "Not The Nine O'Clock News".
One thing about British comedy is that we will make a joke about anything at all, even if it is tasteless and objectionable to other people. An example of such occurred when Marc Bolan, the lead singer for a group called T-Rex back in the 70's, died in a car crash at a time when radio was king. Within 5 minutes of the announcement we heard "Marc Bolan was on the radio today. Yes, and the dashboard, the front window, the seat belts". A second example shows that even our Royal Family aren't exempt, after the announcement of Lady Di's death we got "She was asleep as soon as her head hit that pillow (pillar)".
@@pauloneill7939 If you go back 20 years to when The UK version came out with iys individual format and breaking the 4th wall, then you might feel different as breaking the 4th Wall is commonplace now. Every time I see The UK version again of any episode I realised I missed half of the expressions and jokes the first 3 times..lol
Watch Lee Evans he is very physical in his comedy. You would compare him to Jim Carrey but Lee's comedy is timeless and insanely funny, not dry at all. You won't be disappointed.
Love watching Americans respond to Al Murray. Thanks for this. British humour is very different from American. My friend from New York does not get banter.😂
British and European comedy is proper comedy. Unfortunately American comedy is slapstick trying to get a laugh or insults about your mum and friends, nothing intelligent unlike other countries where you have all types of humour. I keep hearing reactions from Americans saying he or she would get cancelled over here, well that’s because America bans proper comedy because most Americans can’t understand comedy
You need to check out more British comedy is very intelligent, very smart, very sarcastic. Sometimes the point is not obvious you have to know that’s why we find some American comedy very childish and immature because the point it’s so obvious you lose the joke of the British comedy. The point is not always obvious, but you get it from the sarcasm and the locks hence why Frazier was a massive it in the UK because of the dry sarcastic British style comedy
Al is one of most intelligent comedians I’ve ever come across. He has that British pragmatism and the driest humour ever. Fantastic bloke to watch and listen to.
